So true. We have Anthony Mackie whose 39 and has always had supporting roles here or there. Never really got the shot to be the Leading Man. Shame as he's pretty sold in drama (The Hurt Locker, She Hate Me).

In fact just listing Black actors/movie stars I have

Denzel Washington, Will Smith, Jamie Foxx, Idris Elba, Samuel L. Jackson, Don Cheadle, Morgan Freeman, Anthony Mackie, David Oyelowo, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Laurence Fishburne. Several of them no longer get leading man roles like they did 10 years ago.

and the new guys like Chadwick, MBJ, John Boyega, Trevante Rhodes (he was in Moonlight and in 12 Strong)

It can be amazing how much these movies mean to people. Kudos to Boseman for staying in touch with those kids & their families.

Apparently he's also a writer/director. Though only of short films.

Not often you see a filmmaker-turned actor. And one, that's actually good at it.

I'll have to look for that one. I was addicted to Justified some years ago. Especially around season 2/3/4. Goggins is an Amazing actor.

He was fantastic. Regal. Charming. Conflicted. Visibly bearing the burden of his country. All pulled off with nearly effortless aplomb by Boseman.

He was incredible. Really brought a lot of subtle power to the role. Felt like a natural leader and really made you wanna root for him. I love him in this role.

He really grew into this role to the point that i kinda half expect him to talk like this in real life. He gave a very underrated performance. It’s hard to lead a film and Chadwick did it successfully.

I concur. Everyone else was made to shine while he played the "straight man". But he did it well.

I wanna see him in more films ASAP.

Though maybe playing someone other than the "first Black this/that"

To be fair, they kinda outshined through most of the film. I applaud Marvel for allowing them to be more than "a supporting cast".

I think that's kinda why people found Shuri/Okoye/M'Baku to be so exemplary. They weren't made one-dimensional so that the lead was Greater in comparison.

I really like T'Challa, but he wasn't MVP in this.

For the sequel, I'm sure he will be. And I bet he wins a lot of praise for his role in Infinity War

Again, I disagree. T’Challa was the MVP for me. Killmonger is a very close second.
