Chapter 23 - "How To Stop An Exploding Man" - Discussion Thread 5/21/07

They did leave too much to the imagination.

They ****ed up bad. Nathan has super hearing. lawlz.
Hiro charged Sylar like a ****** and actually stabbed him.
Bad writing on this one.

Whether you like it or not, Kring and the writers have stated that the characters' state of mind affects their abilities, and that is the exact reason why Hiro failed in his previous attempt.
That might explain why he failed in his last attempt, but it doesn't explain why he succeeded in the finale. Sylar could have done any number of things. Instead he stood there like a lemon and waited for Hiro to impale him.

I'm not disputing that Hiro could kill Sylar. He's a powerful guy. I'm disputing the way it actually happened in the finale, which wasn't a realistic representation of what could actually be expected to occur.

But it did occur, so get over it.

More than one reasonable explanation has given in this thread and you've ignored every one of them because what happened wasn't what you wanted to happen. Nothing will ever satisfy you so there is no point in you continuing to complain about it.

I just watched the season finale again, and I noticed something. When Hiro stabs Sylar, and then Sylar sends Hiro flying back, after that happens we get several images that are showing in Sylar's eye. What could they be?

The last image that flashes in his eye is of him on the ground after being stabbed. Those images lead me to believe he let himself be stabbed because he knew it would happen and that he'd survive.

lol, the season finale was garbage. Period. Get over it. There is no "reasonable explanation" for what happened.

It was a great season with a disastrous finale.

Well, if you're willing to go with them as 'reasonable' then so be it. You're easily bought. Sylar has thus far been instoppable. No one has even come close.

I'm a Sylar fan, but I'd happily see him bite the dust in a proper manner. What we got was not a proper manner. It was a silly, unrealistic half-assed manner.

And did Hiro really need all that sword training just so he could stab Sylar straight through the stomach. I could have done that myself, having never touched a sword before.

Sylar has been stopped a number of times:

Matt and Audrey prevented Sylar from kidnapping Molly

Peter prevented Sylar from killing Claire

Eden and The Haitian took him out and captured him.

Mr. Bennet shot Sylar and prevented him from killing his wife and Claire

Mohinder drugged Sylar's tea and captured him.

Mohinder knocked Sylar out with the blackboard

you completely missed the point. as i said above, Hiro was reluctant and hesitant. the training with the sword wasn't just to learn technique; it was part of the hero's journery - it's part of the archetype - to learn from an older instructor. it put Hiro in the proper state of mind and allowed him to fully embrace what he couldn't embrace before.

That whole fight scene was a big anti climax. It's like having Optimus Prime and Megatron finally duke it out and Prime wins by sticking out his foot and tripping Megatron.

It was a great season with a disastrous finale.

The season finale wasn't about some intense drag out fight between two powerhouses. The season finale continued the character development that has been taking place through the entire season. It was character growth that apparently quite a few people fail to realize.

It sucked. Bad. TERRIBLY bad. As in, jump-the-shark bad. Period.

It didn't suck. I wasn't disapointed by the lack of a massive, clmactic action sequence, because it wasn't a climax. It was the end of part one. There are bigger and better things to come.

Pish posh. It was lame. Period. No arguing over that.

To me, they looked like new images. I might be confused....

I agree.

Yes arguing over that, as I disagree. Instead of simply saying it was lame and that it shouldn't be argued at all, why not explain why you think it was lame, since I explained why I didn't.

I think Hiro should have teleported right behind Sylar and then stab him quicky, then Sylar should have turned around and send Hiro lying back. There was to much time for Sylar to do something the way the scene was done.

After re-watching that part, nothing was moving during those couple of seconds but Hiro, he very well could have frozen time.

And as for the images in his eye, it's definitely hard to make them out, screen caps would be nice. What I can make out though is a woman(i think it's his mother), a guy with blood running down his forehead(I would assume Ted), Peter starting to glow, and then Sylar on the ground in that exact position.
I think those were the last of the future events he saw. And he had an odd smile on his face, like he knew what was up.(which technically he does since he can see the future)

Exactly. He should have just frozen time.

I'll try and get screen caps. After what you said about the images in his eye, it all makes sense.

What I was implying was that he may very well have frozen time at that instance.

I'm just really disappointed in the way the writers handled some aspects of the last few episodes of the season. Just the way the writers keep on forgetting these heroes have certain powers.

Like many of you have said, it was very anticlimatic.

From the way the writers have written these characters, THIS is how it should have gone:

Nikki and Claire try to take down Sylar, they fail.

Peter comes unto the scene, he fights Sylar but Sylar finally takes him down. Sylar, now very weak, isn't strong enough dodge the multiple swipes by Hiro and eventually stop Hiro from slowing down time and giving him a fatal stab.

Now, Peter is too weak to control his nuclear powers, so Hiro teleports him somewhere he can explode safetly, OR Claire shoots him.

I mean, the writers REALLY dropped the ball here.
Hiro teleports himself after he gets thrown by Sylar.....hmmmm.....how about teleporting back?
Nikki takes a swing at Sylar, hurting him, Peter says, "I've got it", and then proceeds to get HIS ass kicked by Sylar...ooookay.
Nathan flies in and then takes his brother away and they both die.......when someone could've just shot Peter there and stopped him without another death.

Just a huge let down and don't get me started on the 17th century scene.

Your disagreeing won't change the FACT: this episode was lame, a total stinker, a dud, an anticlimax, bad all over.

It was HEROES' "Spock's Brain".

In the future, when people look back, they'll say "geez, that HEROES series was fine, but the 1st season ending was the worst ending EVER".

lol, you're overreacting. And this is coming from someone who didn't enjoy too much either.

I'm not overreacting, I'm just stabbing the fanboys who are trying their best to excuse the unexcusable: HEROES started with a bang, promised a boom, and ended with a fart.
