Chapter 52 - 'Exposed" Discussion Thread 3/2/09

Hana Gitelman is dead. She uploaded herself into the mainframe of the computer network, but then she was destroyed by Bob Bishop once she got caught hacking into the Companys computer systems.

Plus it would be really stupid for Rebel to be her seeing as most of the viewing audience probably has no idea who she is.

Any how, the this is one of those episodes that is just absolutely useless.

The Sylar plot was tedious (plus I'll bet anything that the next twist is his mother had some kind of power that kept her alive. Kring just can't resist).

Claire's plot, also insanely boring and the romance was so forced. I love how the nerdy guy who could barely talk to girls at the beginning of the episode, is suddenly Don Juan by the end.

Micah is definitely Rebel, but he better be working with someone else (other than Monica), because the concept of a 10 year old and 15 year old running a massive resistance to the government is just absurd.

Finally...why would a video, from an anonymous source, suddenly be dumped on national television without any confirmation? Hell, how did they even know that it was US citizens being detained when there were hoods on their head? It seriously seemed like in a matter of minutes, the evening news played that video. It is a bit far fetched that they would play it before confirming the source and would have all kinds of insight as to what is going on and who is being detained (when their faces were covered) based on a 30 second video.

No more stupid than a teenager and a child running a government resistance.

when wasn't it obvious?

time to bring back the rest of the f'n cast already!!!!!

No, its not. In fact, that is the opposite of what needs to be done. One of the biggest problems of season 2 is a cast that is too big and plots like Sylar/Maya, Monica/Micah, etc were just distractions. They need to keep the plot tighter with fewer characters. Not stretch it out with more.

Why are you referring to Monica as a teenager?! I'm pretty sure she's at least in her early to mid-twenties.

I thought she was at most 18 or 19. Still pretty stupid that a fry cook and a child could run an organized resistance to the US military.

Well, if the actress playing Monica, Dana Davis, and character Monica herself are suppose to be the same age, then Monica is around 25-26 years old.

And it's not that farfetched seeing as Micah has abo****e control over any piece of technology he wants. I think it's him, Monica, and Angela working together as Rebel with maybe Molly as well being used as the tracker.

I completely agree. I think its Micha. He is working with Angela. And how the Hell does Nerd boy (who breathes OXYGEN out of the Water) give breath to Claire? Is he Plant Boy or Fish Boy? And, if he was Plant Boy, how does he breathe Oxygenated Air, but Carbon Dioxide out of water?

Why did it take so long for Sylar to remember that stuff, he has a power to read history of an Object! All he had to do is touch the Building, then he could learn everything about it.

The only saving grace was the last 2 minutes with Matt with the Bomb. I want it to blow up so we can be rid of him. But, there is going to be more Dues Ex Machina to fix that crap. AND why didn't at the begining of the episode, when Peter woke Matt up out of his Painting Fit, didn't he gain the power then, but when he touched him later (over clothes mind you) he gained the power. But, when Nathan caught him, he didn't gain Flight, until he HUGGED him again!!! How many times he is going to hug and fly?

I'm sorry, but this was the worst episode of the series. Only because after the first 2 episodes of this volume, being so good, they had to trip and fall into their usual rut.

I'm not saying I'm done with this series, but it has fallen so far from the Greatness it could have been.

What do you think those flashbacks to the scenes in the diner were?!

Sorry for the double post, but another thing I learned this episode is that they need to up Ashley Crow (Sandra Bennett) to regular status ASAP!

She was absolutely AMAZING this episode.

Well the episode wasn't all a waste I mean Peter and Matt managed to give the news information that was important to them. I say good for Peter for going threw with his threat HAHA take that hunter. While I admit I fast threw the Clarie and Sylar plots cuz they bored me but the Peter/Matt plot was the most exciting thing, that was more Volume 1ish :woot:
Peter was brilliant the entire time, I loved the team work with Matt.

That's what I was thinking, she stepped it up.

...Am I the only one who actually liked last nite's ep?

Is she only in the graphic novels? I don't remember her on the show. But from what I read there it could work.

She was on the show back in season one. She was the one who instigated Sprague and Parkman to take HRG's house hostage in Company Man.

As for her being dead, she's 'died' twice in total; once in a space shuttle and the second time when the mainframe was wiped. Considering she survived the first, who's to say she didn't the second? Perhaps she was uploaded along with the rest of the data? Or perhaps there's a backup copy of herself out there?

I think you're overestimating Micah. Aside from lacking motivation, he lacks the means to be as omniscient as Rebel is. Unless he's plugged himself into Building 26's mainframe, how would he know what they're up to?

Well he can "speak to" or control machines, so to speak--if the govt has all these eyes and ears on the heroes, he could conconceivable tap into that viewing system. We haven't seen the extent or limitations to his power, so I don't think we can rule Micah out as the rebel yet. Through the internet, or some other portal, maybe he has found some way to reroute all the security cams so he can do some remote viewing...I may be stretching it here, but it's a possibilty. But I'm up for some suggestions.

I think people are underestimating Micah.

This is a kid that was able to manipulate the voting process of an entire city and breach medical records to get Tracy's correct birth records in less then five minutes. What makes you think it would be hard for him to break into Building 26's computer mainframe?

^^ See my post above. I'm in support of the possibilty of Micah being the rebel.

Excellent point. To use a real world example, look what happens whenever there is amateur video tape showing cops beating a suspect. Of course, the media and the public's immediate reaction is "how horrible," but then there's other commentators or the cops lawyers who then come on and say "I know it looks bad, but the suspect was resisting arrest, attacking and verbally abusing the officers. They had no choice but to restrain him as best as they could. The video tape doesn't tell the whole story." As a result, doubt is created. And as you point out, why would the media think these are American citizen's being rounded up on that video tape? Because Peter anonymously told them this was the case? If anything, you'd have government officials on those programs saying, "Clearly, this is footage of captured terrorists not American citizens." Granted, the American media can be pretty incompetent when it comes to reporting, but even so, even they would have to realize it takes far more than an uncorroborated videotape evidence from an anonymous source to prove a case. How convenient that the media completely buy into the premise of this evidence, just as it was so convenient that Peter managed to find a portable USB flash drive right there by the computer for him to download and copy that incriminating and "full proof" evidence.

Well, that's because he was given direct access to the votes and birth records are accessible to the public, if I'm not mistaken. That's quite a huge difference to hacking government channels and intercepting all communications, which is much more up Hana's street.

Also, take a look at it from this perspective; how silly would it look if the mysterious puppet master who's been pulling the strings of most of the main characters on the 'resistance' side turns out to be some kid (even if said kid is under orders from someone else, which again lacks motivation)? It would feel more believable if it's from a disembodied radical trapped in cyberspace. That's why I suspect Rebel is either Hana or an entirely new character.

****ing kill Sylar! He contributes nothing to the show anymore.

Other than that the episode was pretty entertaining. I think Peter can control his ability now, meaning he wont just get someones power from touching them. He has conscious control of keeping his old power or taking the power of the person he touches.

taylor cole is nothing but a silly toy.

and sylar is the best character on the show now.

Wow. For a second I thought the show was getting good again.... but nope. Peter still only does the one power at a time s--t. Also, Matt is the only character that has been in character ever since he first showed up... too bad that means he has to die.

For one this show isn't consistent and him now having one power is obviously to correct the problem that people think he is all to powerful.

Another way of achieving this is to do what they did with Matt last ep--further discuss the limitations of his powers. Conceivably, with a power like Parkman's, he could go in and control everyone's minds, make them all take each other out, etc. However, it's been explained that there's a certain range he has to be in and that he can't in fact enter the minds of too many at once. Also, the focus that is required to do so and how this can be broken has been shown as well. It's been mentioned that Peter never achieved full control over the many powers he absorbed, so that helps limit his god-modding--I don't have a problem with multiple-ability-holding Peter for that reason. We can only have one Sylar; with too many all-powerful characters, the show loses its impact.
