Oh, it's OK to be selfish. This wasn't the point of my reply. What isn't OK is being selfish, but not admitting it, and then labeling other people as selfish like it's not OK.

The "buzz" starts too early.

Before Halloween has even come and had it's time yet, little signs that the season of stupidity and greed is begining start to show up. Those plastic snowman lights you see on the shelf at the store. The decorations starting to pop up at the mall. Milking X-mas for it for every drop it's worth, they rob Halloween of some of its glory, and begin the long stretch of "cheer".

The "buzz". This is the part where commercialism comes in. This is the part about greed, about cheesiness, about phonyness, about crap. And not just a little crap. Not just some crap. Not just a buncha crap. Not even just TOO MUCH crap. We're talkin' loads upon loads upon loads upon loads, EVERYWHERE you go, EVERYWHERE you look. It reminds me of that annoying song "How Bizzare".... "everytime I look around it's in my FACE". There IS NO ESCAPE. It is shoved down our throats from October to January, and it is CRAP. It takes over everything. It's plastered everywhere, choking and suffocating you untill you vomit uncontrollabely to the point where you have to be rushed to the hospital, which is decked out in bright, corny, commercial Christmas crap. So you vomit some more. Then you die. Ho, ho, !#@?!%$* off.

It's supposed to be a religious holiday celebrating the birth of Christ. Yet it is not generally treated as such. They even call it "X Mas"...what's that about? And what does all this commercial junk, or indeed just Santa and such, have to do with that????

Not everyone is a Christian, yet everyone is bombarded with Christmas Time Buzz.

It's supposed the season of "good will" and "giving" and "family" and "love". Again, what does all the greed and commercialism have to do with that? What does stress and crazed shopping have to do with helping anyone, or anything substantial, or lovingness, or appreciating family and such? And what about people in need the REST of the friggin' year? Should we all just donate some stuff at Christmas and then think we've done our part and forget it? That seems to be the idea.

We are BOMBARDED with these images and expectations of how great and merry Christmas time should be, how it's all perfect with our wonderful families and friends. Well what about those of us whose lives are NOT perfect? What about if your having a hard time in life, and now you get smothered by all this stuff and you can't get away from its grasp? X-mas time is when more people commit suicide than any other time of the year. Know why? BECAUSE IT'S DEPRESSING!

Walking into a store, and being pummled with it. Those colors, those nausiatingly cheery decorations. And all the potential Christmas presents they push on you. SELL SELL SELL, BUY BUY BUY!

Sickening bright Christmas lights, in those colors again. EVERYWHERE.

Ho ho ho. Who friggin' laughs like that?

Fruit cake.

Red and green, red and green EVERYWHERE.

The trite, corny, crappy old Christmas music, played constantly, everywhere. And you thought "Crash Into Me" was overplayed.

Every other dang thing.

You need a visit by this guy!

You're an idiot and completely wrong. Christmas still is about happiness, love, care, and selflessness! Why do you think a lot of people are with their friends and family members during this time of the year? Yes, they do buy a lot of things, but there is one key point that you conveniently didn't mention in your post: they're buying these things for other people, not themselves! How the **** is this selfish or greedy? It's the opposite! Also, a lot of people give money to charities, especially during this time of the year! Again, this is the opposite of greed and selfishness.

I think you hate Christmas because you have to see how happy everyone else is and you're jealous of them because you're miserable, so you then have to insult them on an Internet message board because, first of all, you have no one to talk to and, second of all, doing this makes you feel better, and, quite frankly, it's pathetic.

How is it other people's fault that you're unhappy? A lot of other people are unhappy, too; do you do anything to help all the other people with miserable lives? If you don't, what makes you think you deserve to be helped instead of them?

No offense intended: I think you're the selfish one...

Yes, and no. The view is a bit limited methinks.

I doubt he's jealous. Many people get pissed off by the overbearing effect Christmas has on their daily lives.

Christmas is a double edged weapon. While it's definitely about consuming and greed for many (mainly children) it's also about selflessness and giving in others. Companies and consumers, children and grandparents.

You can't say Christmas is one or the other, when, like most HUGE events, it's anything but.

I enjoy Christmas, since the general population becomes a little better towards one another. But likewise, many feed off of such niceness.

FESTIVUS!!! >.<

That, I hate.

EVERYBODY tells me, "Happy Festivus."

Wreck the malls this Christmas season
Fa-la-la-la-la, La-la-la-la;
Blow your cash for no good reason
Fa-la-la-la-la, La-la-la-la;
Push your charge card to the limit
Fa-la-la, La-la-la, La-la-la;
Checkbook now has nothing in it.
Fa-la-la-la-la, La-la-la-la;
Wreck the malls with my friend Charlie
Fa-la-la-la-la, La-la-la-la;
Drive to K-Mart on his holly
Fa-la-la-la-la, La-la-la-la;
Tamper with their muzak system
Fa-la-la, La-la-la, La-la-la;
Trade something for Twisted Sister
Fa-la-la-la-la, La-la-la-la.
Wreck the pet store, do some damage
Fa-la-la-la-la, La-la-la-la;
Send the beagles on a rampage
Fa-la-la-la-la, La-la-la-la;
Acting in an uncouth manner
Fa-la-la, La-la-la, La-la-la;
Drop your pants and moon at Santa
Fa-la-la-la-la, La-la-la-la.

This is a good point.

Christmastime is the least selfish time of the year. I mean, sure people want presents. But it's better to give than receive. I always make sure to remind myself when I get too excited for gifts what the holiday is REALLY about.

i don't find people in general are "nicer" at christmas...in fact i find it to be quite opposite. Easiest way to prove this theory is to go shopping...preferably today.. see how "nice" everyone is. I work in retail, and though christmas isn't our high season (it's a thrift store) i can tell you that customers get ruder and ruder the closer to christmas it gets.

Yep. People are pure evil this time of year- especially if you haven't got exactly what they want, or someone else picks up the last of the item they wanted. Last year, if anything people said thankyou to me less at christmas time than any other time.

Oh, you hate Christmas. You're are edgy. This is breaking new ground here; I thought it was completely self-less and not commercial, this ranting really taught me something. And know what, they do start having Christmas things out in stores really early, I can't believe you spotted that! God knows no one else has and *****ed about it before.

i don't hate it. It just makes me feel miserable, i don't know why :(

Charlie Brown has been griping about this since the 60's. You're not the first. Christmas is basically the big daddy of all the holidays. Halloween, Valentine's Day, 4th of July are all cool, but that's like the leader of them all, which is probably why some people get upset or emotional when the season comes around.

I hate when people ***** about Christmas. Nothing pisses me off more.

Here's a clue. Focus on the positive aspects of the holiday, like spending time with the ones you love. Yeah, Christmas is ridiculously over-commercialized. But if you let that take away from what Christmas essentially is, then that is pretty damn pathetic.

Oh, and Merry Christmas.

people are just being Christmas haters so that they can go against the grain
