The Dark Knight Rises Christopher Nolan Is Doing Batman 3!!!

I remain sceptical, until an official confirmation has been made.

Blitz, your signature is excellent.

I think we should focus on the fact that we have nothing more than a more official rumour. Legit or not, as some people have already said, if it doesn't come out from Nolan's mouth it's not valid yet.

I can only imagine Inception's press conference.
Hope it doesn't get lost in the Bat-Hype. The trailer looks quite good.

*clears throat* His name is Jonathan, not Jonah.
It's short for Jonathan. Jon, Joe, Jonah, and Nathan can all be used as short forms of Jonathan. Jonah and Nathan are much less common but that's the case here, it even appears on his Wikipedia page; "Jonathan 'Jonah' Nolan." It used to confuse me too until I looked it up because Jonah is a common name in its own right.

Let's stop fighting before this turns into a flame war. I'll briefly reiterate what I said previously. His realistic vision for Batman simply fits by virtue of the character. Could it get more fantasy-oriented? Absolutely. But not one fan can deny there's certainly a huge sub-section of the mythos that is purely on the gritty and realism oriented level. Nolan simply went in that particular direction.

Nolan was highly influenced by the sci-fi genre as a kid, and that's what turned him to Hollywood. Inception is a glimpse into what he can do with full reigns on a project not bound by realism. If the man is overseeing Superman, I'm fully assured he knows the type of baggage that character is bringing. I'm sure the average joe knows the fundamental differences between Bats and Supes.

Now...moving onto Batman 3. Finally, is all I can say. I think it's interesting that this time around, Nolan has crafted the story and outline himself. Previously it was David and Jonah. Makes me wonder what villain(s) we should expect since this is from his mind. I'd imagine it would be a lot different if David/Jonah were the ones that spearheaded the story.
Once again, Crook speaks sense. :applaud ITA with everything you said.

As for Superman, even if you think Nolan's style and Superman don't go together, remember, according to the article this will NOT be "Chris Nolan's Superman" anyway. He's just overseeing it, which most likely means he'll help them choose the team that will make it, and how can that not be a good thing? The guy has an eye for quality and talent, and as his collaboration with Goyer indicates, he does care about being faithful the comics origins. And sure he'll probably have some creative input here and there mostly in the pre-production stages, but again, I fail to see how that could be a bad thing - he's a great creative mind. It's not gonna be "his vision" for Superman, though, so I don't see what the fuss is about.

I'll still wait for an official press release from WB before I start up the band. But it's nice to finally get some confirmation that Nolan is eyeing Batman 3 for his next project.

Like Crook, I am intrigued that Nolan came up with the story, as opposed to his brother and Goyer. Still wish Goyer wasn't co-scripting this, but whatever. Hopefully Jonah's involvement and Nolan's revisions keep the cheese at bay (for the most part).

As for the Superman news, really don't care all that much. Not a particular fan of the Superman character.

Now this is better from Nikki, whilst still not a total confirmation it's a bit more thought out than the last piece regarding Goyer, kinda surprised about the Superman news, Big Blue fans won't be too happy about that from what I've read about Nolan and Superman.

The MOTP song. Equally (or a bit a better) than the crappy saxophone music in Mystery of the Batwoman. I hate that music.

I don't get it. Why should Supes fans be sad about this news? Because of the whole reality vs sci-fi thing?

Reading the Superman threads there seems to be this fear of Nolan and Superman, a fear of Superman being 'grounded'. Not sure why, that character needs all the help it can get, and it's not like Nolan would be the one in charge of the character, going from that report says it looks more like a consultancy thing to help resurrect the character, I'm pretty sure Nolan would be the last person who'd want an uber realistic, gritty Superman.

My hope is that Superman himself stays "Sci-Fi" but Metropolis itself becomes more of a "real" city. Maybe that's because I'm not the worlds biggest Superman fan (I like him, just not an avid Superman comic reader) but that's what I'd like to see.

I have friends that are like "Dude, I LOVE Nolans Batman films...but I don't want a dark Superman" and that's where people are messing up, IMHO.

I believe Nolan "gets" Superman and Batman are two different character, I don't think he'll make Superman into Bruce Wayne with blue tights on.

This all points to an eventual Batman/Superman film with Nolan at the helm...maybe even a Justice League flick with him directing. I also hope that because of this we'll get even more Batman films from him and Bale.

This is great news for not only Batman but Superman as well, good to hear both films now have movement.

Agree on all parts....
This is good news - but still waiting for the official WB release before I exhale.

Awesome. Vests at the ready!
YEAH! :applaud:

-whips out vest shrine-

Jonah or Jonathan, he seems to be writing a screenplay for a new Spielberg film.

Glad to see Hollywood open to new and good writers.
He goes by Jonah. And Interstellar has been on his plate for years. :oldrazz: Spielberg is quite busy though, so it might be some time before they finally get to it.

As for Chris helping out the Superman series, I wouldn't be too concerned yet. Inception is likely shot with a realistic, gritty feel, but from what we've seen, a huge part of it's fantastical. So he definitely doesn't eschew fantasy if the story calls for it. If he's not directing it, then he's probably going to help out with the story and bringing people together in general, which he excels at.

This is about the best news I've read all year.

In regards to Superman, I think as usual people are getting too caught up with Nolan's supposed realism. He was brought on board not because he made Batman more "realistic" but because he made Batman more sophisticated and intelligent than it had been in years (not to mention more bankable). Furthermore, I'm sure he is smart enough to know that the same approach he took with Batman just does not work for Superman, so he will accommodate as such. To assume that just because he made Batman more realistic he will make Superman more realistic is ridiculous.

Great Scott! Great to hear. Looks like as time goes on I will be more and more in the Bat forum. The only reason I avoid these early on is some of the "theories" drive me batty lol. But now that we got steam........tis exciting.

I have to agree with Eggyman....vest time.

Goyer and Chris did most of the story telling for Begins if I'm not mistaken yet Goyer did do most of it. Yet with TDK it appears Goyer only had say on "ideas" for the stories, while Jonah was brought in to help out. I bet Goyer will have the same amount of "input" as he did with TDK. And TDK kept Goyer's not as close. Though I for one do not "think less" of Begins. Begins is superb. But with out a doubt TDK was written better.

Hopefully, we'll get more and more news to ramp up Batman Mania again!
