Christopher Nolan's "Dunkirk" (July 21, 2017) - Part 3

Watched this again on BD, the sound does unfortunately lose a little something watching it at home, in the cinema I felt I was actually there at Dunkirk, but my sound system cat match a cinema, and it still lessen the impact of some momentsa but.

But man, I still love the hell out of this movie. No offence to anyone, but it’s nice to get a ‘British’ WW2 movie in modern times. And the tension in some scenes is just amazing. Still a great movie experience at home for me. I actually enjoyed the quieter moments a bit more watching it at home, and I will definitely be watching it again a few times. Nolan does it again for me.

‘Dunkirk’ and ‘Darkest Hour’ Mash Up

Meanwhile...

Have you seen “Darkest Hour” yet?

Nolan:No, I haven’t. How is it?

It puts you on the other side of the Channel during the same time period. Your old collaborator, Gary Oldman, is splendid playing Churchill.

Nolan:Interesting. Yeah …

I’m not sensing you’re going to run out and see it.

Nolan:I love Gary. I made three movies with him and I’m pretty fascinated to see the work. But I’d be lying if I said having spent two years doing a film about Dunkirk that I want to go out and immediately see another.

I’ll be honest. I fell asleep watching this movie.

Well, I enjoyed Dunkirk and Darkest Hour
I wish both films Good Luck in The Oscar Race.

*Cough* Work with him again. *Cough*

He obviously likes Tom Hardy. I’d like him to give Hardy a more main role (and not cover his face the whole movie).

Nicolas Cage interview with Variety at the Sundance Film Festival:
What was your favorite movie of 2017?
“Dunkirk.” I was blown away. I thought that it was bleak, cutting in and out of scenes with minimal dialogue, extraordinary aerial photography, great performances and original and deeply emotional and very moving. I put it in my top five war pictures ever made. But I regret to tell you that I didn’t see it on the big screen. And then I had to watch it in the way the director didn’t want me to see it, and that frustrates me. Because now I can’t see it in 70 mm. It’s not in theaters anymore.

Great interview about some of his films.

Tom Hardy will play a man with a huge scar on his left side of his face, which will be covered up of course. His brunette wife died shortly after that incident. Gary Oldman will play a supporting role as an actor going in and out of his accent. Michael Cane will also be in it,but mostly for that part in films where our leads take a break from the action to go over the plot etc.

Our boy finally nominated for Best Director, with the film also picking up a Best Picture nod.

Congrats to Nolan. Should have happened nine years ago.

Definitely nice to finally see him nominated. I have a strange feeling that Dunkirk could walk away empty handed...it's best shot may be sound mixing/editing.

But yeah, congrats on a well-deserved and long overdue nomination.

Editing would be nice. But seriously, Nolan, FINNNNALLLLLLLLYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!

Being nominated for his weakest film. :whatever:

Also, congrats. :woot:

Dunkirk may not be my favorite, but I would say The Dark Knight Rises is the Nolan film I like the least. Though I know there are plenty of others who disagree with me there.

Nah, Dunkirk is definitely better than Following, Insomnia, The Dark Knight Rises, or Interstellar.

I really think Interstellar is underrated. I am hoping that gets a bump in the future for how great it is like 2001: A Space Odyssey eventually did. You don't see Sci-Fi films of that kind anymore, and I loved what Nolan did with it. Further, best performance Matt Damon may have ever given, including Good Will Hunting.

I think Dunkirk is a lock for sound mix/editing, but I don't think it'll walk away with anything else.

Dunkirk is winning 3 Oscars:
Film Editing
Sound Mixing
Sound Editing
