Christopher Nolan's "Dunkirk" (July 21, 2017) - Part 3

Watched this again on BD, the sound does unfortunately lose a little something watching it at home, in the cinema I felt I was actually there at Dunkirk, but my sound system cat match a cinema, and it still lessen the impact of some momentsa but.

But man, I still love the hell out of this movie. No offence to anyone, but it’s nice to get a ‘British’ WW2 movie in modern times. And the tension in some scenes is just amazing. Still a great movie experience at home for me. I actually enjoyed the quieter moments a bit more watching it at home, and I will definitely be watching it again a few times. Nolan does it again for me.

It puts you on the other side of the Channel during the same time period. Your old collaborator, Gary Oldman, is splendid playing Churchill.

Nolan:I love Gary. I made three movies with him and I’m pretty fascinated to see the work. But I’d be lying if I said having spent two years doing a film about Dunkirk that I want to go out and immediately see another.

I’ll be honest. I fell asleep watching this movie.
 
Well, I enjoyed Dunkirk and Darkest Hour
I wish both films Good Luck in The Oscar Race.

He obviously likes Tom Hardy. I’d like him to give Hardy a more main role (and not cover his face the whole movie).

“Dunkirk.” I was blown away. I thought that it was bleak, cutting in and out of scenes with minimal dialogue, extraordinary aerial photography, great performances and original and deeply emotional and very moving. I put it in my top five war pictures ever made. But I regret to tell you that I didn’t see it on the big screen. And then I had to watch it in the way the director didn’t want me to see it, and that frustrates me. Because now I can’t see it in 70 mm. It’s not in theaters anymore.

Tom Hardy will play a man with a huge scar on his left side of his face, which will be covered up of course. His brunette wife died shortly after that incident. Gary Oldman will play a supporting role as an actor going in and out of his accent. Michael Cane will also be in it,but mostly for that part in films where our leads take a break from the action to go over the plot etc.
 
Our boy finally nominated for Best Director, with the film also picking up a Best Picture nod.
 
Congrats to Nolan. Should have happened nine years ago.
 
Definitely nice to finally see him nominated. I have a strange feeling that Dunkirk could walk away empty handed...it's best shot may be sound mixing/editing.

But yeah, congrats on a well-deserved and long overdue nomination.

Dunkirk may not be my favorite, but I would say The Dark Knight Rises is the Nolan film I like the least. Though I know there are plenty of others who disagree with me there.

Nah, Dunkirk is definitely better than Following, Insomnia, The Dark Knight Rises, or Interstellar.

I really think Interstellar is underrated. I am hoping that gets a bump in the future for how great it is like 2001: A Space Odyssey eventually did. You don't see Sci-Fi films of that kind anymore, and I loved what Nolan did with it. Further, best performance Matt Damon may have ever given, including Good Will Hunting.
 
I think Dunkirk is a lock for sound mix/editing, but I don't think it'll walk away with anything else.
