The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Cinema Blend's Katey Rich's Response to Fan Reaction to Shailene Woodley.

then there's people who are like digifict who aren't really arguing about fanboys being mean... but yelling at fans for even caring about any characters physical traits.

With all due respect, you actually have no idea what I'm arguing for and about.

Edit: I just had to respond to this:

again... in the world of celebrity... it's unfortunately quite normal. It's incredibly wrong... but quite normal. They shouldn't "have to get use to it" but they do.

i mean look at justin bieber (who's only 19) and has a whole website dedicated to how he looks like a lesbian .....
This is one of the single most offensive and idiotic things you've said. It doesn't matter if this kind of bullying happens in the world of celebrities 'all the time'; it's still disgusting and wrong.

Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane seemed very insecure about not just her career, but who she was, her looks, everything. She was not a good role model because she constantly doubted herself and actually used ther men because of it. The thing about MJ was she covered that 5hit up. She was a hero in her own right. She had suffered a lot of pain and managed to put a brave face on it. She rose above her abusive home life and became more successful.

The characterisation in the Raimi series was very off. The only characters truely done right seemed to be the older characters i.e J.J.Jameson, possibly Aunt May and Uncle Ben. At a stretch Norman was pretty good too. The characterisation was pretty good in TASM, some felt Peter never learnt anything and was pretty selfish by not heeding Captain Stacey's words. However everything else was pretty good. For Mary Jane they wanted the confident Mary Jane, like Lois Lane was SUPER confident and in control of herself as a woman on Smallville. It's not like some impossible feat to get a beautiful talented girl.

As for the story itself, on Big Bang Theory there is that geek- beauty thing going, same with the TV show Beauty and the Geek. Geeks are sterotyped just as much as Beauty's are. No-one is saying MJ has to be dumb. MJ has a big heart and is a warm, fun person to be around. She just takes care of her appearance as a way of showing she is a 'fashion girl' it contrasts Peter's scientific world. Romantically, it is like two oppisite worlds coming together.

It would be a little bit of a letdown if this dynamic isn't played out.

Dude all you do is twist words go get offended. I do not care. All you are is offensive to me with your arrogant behavior.

Dude i lived in LA for nearly a decade and had friends in the industry. I do know what Im talking about. Its ruthless. And FOR THE LAST TIME I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH YOU THAT ITS WRONG AND DISGUSTING. this doesn't change the fact that its not going away

Ahh the Spidey boards are still the same.

Didn't like the last flick but that wasn't because of the cast. After seeing Woodley in the Descendants I think she will be fine as MJ.

If Megan Fox were cast as MJ 8 out of 10 Hyper's would hate the choice and yet they are complaining about this girl being too ugly. Every lead female chatacter looks like a bombshell in comicbooks but not every good actress looks like a bombshell. There are good actresses that are drop dead gorgeous. or very beautiful that can act of course but maybe they didn't have chemistry with the lead actor. Maybe Woodley's audition was the best?

Actually it's not very offensive or idiotic at all. The physical appearances of actors and actresses are put under a microscope. As a result, they often get a thicker skin when it comes to the insults and find ways to ignore them. An easy way for Shailene to feel good about herself would be to go on one of her fansites and look at all the comments praising her for how hot she is. Or to remind herself that she's a 21 year old with a net worth of $3 million, and a promising acting career in front of her.

By the time, ASM2 comes out and everyone sees MJ in the actually movie, I'm sure the harsh comments about her looks will have died down almost completely.

Agrees...

And women already are going crazy trying to fan cast Christian Grey from 50 shades.... All ridiculously attractive men

Precisely and if they got someone with inner beauty who we, as males, would like, they would kick up a stink. It's not really about looks for looks sake at all. (I still agree that some people are neccessarily mean though)

I don't think Iron Man is hot enough here, we should start attacking this, who's with me?!!
ironmaiden_zps25c6d6cb.gif

Lol. Iron Man is slightly different though. He's not a love interest. People identify with him and being handsome is good but being too handsome makes the demographic feel self conscious.

I guess it would be like casting the next James Bond. Some people might want Mickey Rourke because he's a great actor and looks shouldn't matter. Others would want Liam Payne from One Direction because he's VERY good looking. Others would like Michael Fassbender because he's a great actor and good looking.

Once again though, people shouldn't be so mean to Shailene.

Who wants Mickey Rourke for James Bond?

Winstead should of been cast as Mary Jane, you know you are all thinking it!

The internet...where people attack the looks of one person but run to defend the looks of someone else because they are in something they like.

What if Winstead didn't want to be in it? People never take things like that into account when they select one actor/actress for a role in their heads. They just think "The director and casting director were just too stupid to realize that he/she was perfect for the part.". I think I remember Winstead saying she didn't want to be part of any "big movies" anyway. She hasn't really ever been in any. Plus, she always seems to be one of those "Eh, whatever" type people in her movies.

while i do think emma stone and Jlaw are more than just "cute", I do agree with everything else.. and hope Shailene does a fantastic job and uses this hiccup to push her harder.

Yeah, it's a totaly shame to see what people are saying about it. What little I've seen of her movies, I've got full faith in her acting abilities. I really hope she does a good job and shuts the jerk fanboys up.

Hell... wouldn't it be great if she does to fanboys what comic MJ did to peter? Think she's a dog until you finally see her on screen and it's like.. dayum! we really did hit the jackpot!

Haha, wouldn't that be somethin?

Or because said people feel its blown out of proportion....

Seriously, stop dissecting this girl already. Give her a freaking break.

ok so now people can't say squat about anyone?

Look, people can critique and say what they want to an extent. Attacking is a whole different subject.

she's not sitting here glued to the boards... she could probably care less what a couple morons have to say.

to expect ZERO criticism or negative leaning comments is quite trite. it's even more pointless to complain about people complaining...

I think it's a bit in poor taste to comment about weight right after this blow up, but it's not wrong to. every negative post is not an attack on her.
