it was a letdown for me,I wished to see more of the gods. The movie should have been better. You could have played "the drinking game" whenever perseus spouted his "I'll do it as a man" line. Dude...****

I will make a drinking game based on Perseus quotes...but if i do it I do it as a man:woot:

The plot jumped all over the place, failing to tell us who those witches even are, the meaning behind that random robotic owl someone had supposedly packed on the quest, or how the two hunters managed to find one of the giant scorpions, train it, and walk it into Argos during the final battle.

Yeah, I'll bet that was a real WTF moment for anyone who hadn't seen the first movie.

By the way, did anyone notice the hilariously huge plot hole as the story came to an close? Be careful—I might spoil a thing or two here. So, the one thing in the whole wide world that bests the Kraken is Medusa's glare, right? Because it would be turned to stone, right? Well, from what I saw, that only works on humans—men, to be exact. For example, it didn't petrify the alien wizard guy. So, er, can anyone tell me how exactly it would work on the Kraken, a monster so awesome that it could even kill a god? That's not exactly human. Plus, the movie made it appear as if Medusa had to change her face to petrify people, and when Perseus took her head, it looked like a lady's face, which shouldn't have done any damage anyway. Perhaps the original movie had different details, but I'm only going by what I just saw.

Medusa's eyes can turn anything made of flesh to stone. The djinn was made of wood. I don't think her face changing had anything to do with the process. In fact, IIRC she didn't make that face when she changed the first man in the movie to stone.

Also, didn't the witches make a big deal out of the prophecy that Perseus will die if continues his quest—even if he takes the head of Medusa? Um, honestly, I had forgotten all about that until after the movie was over. Not only did he not die, he barely even got close to dying. In saying that I mean, not close enough for a movie-goer like me to go, "Oh no! It's probably going to be Perseus's end, as foretold!

I didn't even notice this! They must've rewritten the ending and not bothered to change the witches' lines.

Did anyone else feel like Zeus's "Release the Kraken" line sound like it belonged at the end of a longer speech? He tells the other gods to leave, then walks up some steps and abruptly says the line. It felt like something else should have been said beforehand.

You cant just say "Kick Ass isnt competition because it isnt a remake". It's an action based movie...in theaters at the same time as another action based movie. When someone goes to the theater to see an action film, there is a built in choice. The concept that movies arent competing for the same dollar unless they are remakes is, frankly, absurd.

It'd be one thing if I was claiming that My Little Pony is competition for Saw 12...but I'm not.

I didnt say anything of the sort, I said Kick-Ass doesnt have the name recognition as a remake to a beloved movie, so there is no guarantee it will make big money and give big competition to COTT.

I maybe wrong, hence why I said 'maybe.'

But didn't they say something about the djinn once being human and then replacing their skin with wood or something? If so, wouldn't their vital organs at least be flesh?

Meh, I guess it doesn't matter. It was all pretty stupid and none of that makes any sense anyway.

What a crappy movie.

I start film school next month and to prepare myself I have been reading books on filmmaking and screenwriting....Here were the key points the screenwriting book mentioned for a sucessful climax to a film

1)Main character is the active participant(Yup Perseus is there)
2)Villain should be equally formidable(We are led to believe by killing the Kraken it would make Hades weak enough for Perseus to kill)
3)Something personal is at stake(It would have been if Andromeda was his girl)
4)There should be little time to think(I guess)
5)The main character should use some acquired skill in his attempt to succeed(the ability to channel or throw Zeus lighting bolt wasnever mention or foreshadowed as an ability)
6)Does the hero accomplish his goal(no as he doesnt kill Hades)

I like how your thought process deteriorates from attempting to rationalize to ambivalence to final conclusion.:hehe:

thats because Djinn shouldnt be ina greek mythology movie...they are middle eastern mythology...we know them as the more famous Genie

Yep. I just followed the pattern of the movie itself:

1. Main issues and characters introduced

2. Bunch of random crap thrown in that makes little to no sense

3. Wait, what was this movie about? Ah, f**k it

Good point. But then I wanted to see discussions among the gods as a whole.

The wood must protect the organs...or they got wood organ transplants. :yay:

I thought the movie was okay. Nothing incredible. The 3D sucked horribly. I'll never bother going to see a converted movie in 3d again. When it's done the right way it looks incredible.

How to Train a Dragon's 3d was just as good as Avatar's.

Just got back fro seeing it;

Man. Worst movie i've seen in a long, long time. The original had so much more substance despite it's dated F/X.

The editing and pacing was horrible, as was the dialogue and music. I kinda understand all the Worthington hate now, but there were alot of good actors in this who just came off as bad due to the horrible script.

I hope i never see this piece of garbage ever again.

The one saving grace was that the the girl who worked in the b.o booth was uber cute. :)

Looks like the bad word of mouth aint hurting the movie. It's doing okay at the box office.

After watching the film and reading that CHUD article about Leterrier's cut of the film it is clear that there were poor editing decisions made and I guess the reshoots didn't help either!

I really do believe that Warner Brothers had this film made for quick money and that they didn't care if the film was good or not seeing as it was in development hell for ages until Leterrier got the train moving. And even with him on board, the shooting and post-production were running in parallel which is just crazy!

I also don't understand why the film had close up action with fast cuts which made it difficult to see what was happening; mainly in the Calibos and Scorpion fight. Leterrier's last film, The Incredible Hulk, had great action that didn't have fast cuts or shaky-cam, so I have no idea what happened here!

One thing I did like about Leterrier's camera work was with the Pegasus/Harpy chase in Argos with the camera swooping through buildings and then into the sky, that was awesome!

It was a film with so much potential and you can see that there were a lot of ideas that were cut so much to fit a 2 hour film.

The film is good but nothing brilliant. I wish that Leterrier's cut gets released because I believe that he is a really good director but gets screwed over by the studios way too easily! Unleashed is still my favourite Leterrier film!

You know what's funny as ****, I was watching Terminator Salvation a few nights ago and in it he says to Bale when asked what he is, "I'm a man".

:hehe:

that should be his "I'll be back" catchphrase

If anybosy is wondering COTT made $15,770,000 this weekend to bring the total up to $132,985,000 according to Box Office Mojo. I still think DVD/Blu Ray sales are gonna make of break a sequal. My guess would be that COTT will make around $170,000,000 give or take.

Ugh, Kick Ass deserves this film's success so much more.

maybe they should have converted Kick Ass to cheap 3D

I will gladly support Kick Ass talk taking over this thread. This movie was terrible.
