i guess its a good thing then that "bombing" doesnt mean its going to be bad or wont have another sequal after that one.

Well, usually bombs don't have sequels. The movie's financial gain does not reflect its quality.

Anyway, this movie could potentially be at least as good as the first movie but I don't think any of the sequels will surpass the original.

Its not a good or bad thing. It is simply a prediction. Cloverfield did not get good word of mouth outside of the internet movie fanboy realm. This can be supported by poor audience reports and dramatic drops in box office numbers (nearly 70 % between its first and second weekend). Prior to the movie going below 1 million dollars, every weekend but one dropped over 50 %. That is not a good sign.

I was trying to make the point that just because he thinks it will bomb and might bomb doesnt mean it is in anyway a bad movie or that they still might be able to make another one, in otherwords if it does bomb its not the end of the world for the movies so to speak.

Why doesn't matter. Studio execs don't make the big bucks by making excuses for bombs.

No one is commenting on the potential quality. We are discussing potential box office which IS able to be predicted. Perhaps not perfectly, but to an extent.

I'm sure it'll do at least as good as the original or may make a little less, depending on how good it is. When you talk about sequels not living up to the original in the box office department, the F4 movies come to mind.

Why would it do just as good if it recieved bad word of mouth? Back up your argument. That is what debate is about. Not just saying "CLOVIE WOULD PWN KONG!" or "IT"LL MAKE TEH MILLONZ!!!" I've explained to you how it COULD bomb considering the factors surrounding it. You claim it will not, back that up.

I never said it'll make teh millions but it has already pwned Kong as far as being a true monster goes.

The movie did NOT gain popularity. In fact, trends indicate otherwise. There were poor audience responses and bad word of mouth indicated by heavy drops in subsequent weekends from the release. If its audience did not like it, then common sense dictates they will not see a sequel. Internet fanboys like it. General audiences do not seem to have felt the same way.

And for the record, I do not want it to bomb. It is an interesting concept of which I would like to see more. I am strictly being a realist.
