I suppose there is a tiny chance that Beth survived. She at the very least survived the bombing where the original movie ended as she screamed for Rob (I suppose her terrified scream with no response can let us assume Rob died). Then we saw them finding the tape. Hey, if the camera survived, why not Beth?

Most alternate endings do suck. Sometimes you will get something truly different but more often than not it is just a slight variation of the scene or a different camera angle.

As for getting the DVD, no thanks. Cloverfield is a very theatrical movie. I have no desire to watch it at home. The experience would be ruined. Also, like Blair Witch, it is the type of movie that once you see...there is really no point in seeing again. Cloverfield is what it is. Its not as if there are countless hidden levels of depth.

Those alternate endings were a letdown. I feel that the one with the guy finding the camera is cool, but as Matt Reeves said it ruined the actual ending where they expressed their love for eachother, instead of everyone thinking of that they'd be wondering "are they still alive? wtf was that guy with the flashlight?"

Just watched the alternate endings. Eh, I liked the one with the lens wipe better than the train one. The theatrical ending's good enough though.

There's a slight chance Rob's alive, but he was hit by an explosion of rubble and right before Beth was next, she screamed for him (insinuating that he was either unconscious or plain dead?).
