I just wanted to take this opportunity to advertise a great feature offered at www.comixtribe.com. The Proving Grounds, by editor Steven Forbes, is a weekly column where submitted scripts are analysed and critiqued. Forbes doesn't pull any punches, and so the criticism can be harsh, but you can learn a lot from it.

Personally speaking, my comic project The Standard first began life as a Proving Grounds script. Sometimes, that right piece of editorial insight is the spark you need to turn your unpolished script into a project in active development.

So, if you have any comic scripts you've been working on lying around, or if you've always wanted to try writing one, head on over to the Proving Grounds submission page!

Before you do, though, you might want to check out both the earlier Proving Grounds applicants, and Steven Forbes' great series of columns on comic writing, Bolts & Nuts, to make sure your script is as strong as possible before you submit!

Free script editing doesn't come along too often. If you're an aspiring writer looking to learn, this is an opportunity I wouldn't pass up!

Hey, Keyser, had a quick question about this. You may not even be able to answer this or anything, but do you have any idea how long it takes to get a reply when submitting a script? I was just wondering, because I actually submitted one roughly a week ago and never got a confirmation e-mail. I'm thinking I may have done something wrong with submitting (since he says he won't even reply if you don't follow the guidelines properly), though I'm not sure what I could've messed up considering how simple it is.

Hmmm.... usually Steven replies pretty quick. If you want to PM me your real name, I can e-mail Steven and ask him if he got your script, and if there were any problems with it.

Does he publish the scripts online, or does he keep them private?

Is there a limit to the length? I guess I could read the guidelines.

It's put up for everyone to see on a weekly segment he does. For the guidelines, yeah, just take a look at them on the website, very simple stuff.
