Community - Part 3

Yeah if the show stays funny keep it going...as long as the original cast remains intact.

I liked the hiatus premiere, but for some reason it just didn't feel like a real episode of Community. Same actors (Willard aside), same sets, same characters, but lack of effort compared to what I've loved about the show in the past.

Still, if it's funny, I would love for them to keep it around another season or two.

I watched seson 4 premier again last night and I got to admit it was better the 2nd time around, for some reason it reminded me very much of season 2.

i think it was a decent episode. but not a good season premiere.

IMO, it was way better than the 8 bit episode everyone seems to love so much. That might have been the low point for me

The following post is not a panicked overreaction, I am just idly speculating:

I'm wondering if the current showrunners experience with Happy Endings is a reason why the first episode, and maybe upcoming ones, will have more plotlines packed in compared to a "normal" episode of Community.

In Happy Endings, a three-storyline episode is common, as the six main character often pair off into their own crazy adventures, only to have them come together at the end (i.e. Alex and Max have a zany get rich quick scheme, Dave and Brad turn the sandwich truck into a little girl's teahouse and Penny and Jane start stalking Nathan Lane). That kind of story structure works because of the particular context in which Happy Endings exists, but I wonder if this kind of three-sleeved story will become the rule rather than the exception for Community, as the last episode basically had the characters pair off into separate storylines (Jeff + Pelton, Annie + Shirley, Troy + Britta and Abed + Pierce, kind of).

I don't think that formula will work as well with Community though, so I hope this doesn't become a recurring theme.

Well, Community always had an A story (Main season arc), B story (main episode to episode arc), and C/D stories (actual episode arcs dealing with two different parts of the group).

The problem with the 4 premier was they didn't mingle as well as they did in Harmon land and the show doesn't have his heart behind it.

I feel the new showrunners will carry the antics, comedy (but not a astutely), meta-ness but will lack the heart that is the oil in the Community machine. I couldn't feel Troy/Britta for the first time, it felt fake. Jeff didn't have anything heartwarming, his notion to Abed was fake and forced.

This is what the show is missing, without Harmon. And, will be the fall of it. Not that they can't be meta enough, or zany enough, or crazy enough. It will be, if we can't care for the characters enough.

Actually thought tonight's was worse than last weeks.

:csad:

I thought tonight's episode was totally streets ahead of last week.

Only stuff I liked was with Jeff, and look forward to seeing his dad.

I busted out laughing with Annie as the girl from The Ring. That was funny as hell

I haven't noticed any dip in quality from season 3 yet.

Loved Troy and Abed's "WHAAAAT?" in regards to Pierce's decommissioned sub :D

I thought the season premiere was fine. Maybe a 7. Today's ep was a solid 8.5 for me.
I actually liked how they handled Jeff and his daddy issues.

Favorite things:
Jeff and Britta's conversation as Abed watched.
"Things..."
"Secret dogs!"
"I remember when this show was about a community college."

When Abed was watching "Cougartown" he said "I'd follow you ladies anywhere."

Could this be a clue that TBS will pick them up if they are cancelled by NBC?:D

I only laughed once in both episodes. The one joke that got me this week was Troy in the sex room.

Just thinking of him in the sex swing while wearing a Hobbes costume makes me chuckle.

I liked the first episode, but this second episode was terrible. I'm surprised so many of you have the opposite opinion - odd.

I bet the ratings will continue to be steady or climb, despite most hypsters annoyance with the new season, lol.

i think this was the first halloween episode where almost nothing happened.

i think Troy was funny.
