Community - Part 3

I thought this week was better than last. Britta in her panties (better step up your game Brie!), how Abed met Toby online (trapped in Nigeria...lmao), Pierce's "NO...YES!" and Troy's freakout during the lecture were all funny.

This season def has a majorly different feel. The stories are less extreme but the characterization and development of personal relationships between the group are still there.

I really wasn't feeling the previous two episodes and was considering dropping the show altogether, but this week was pretty good.

Yeah, I agree. I even really liked Shirley in this one and that doesn't always happen.

This season is getting better. Each episode has been a step up from the last.

I guess I may be in the minority here, because I hated this episode.Very few laughs imo.

This season is getting better. Each episode has been a step up from the last.

I have 4 tiers of Community episodes, and use that to base this season's episodes.

I - 'Paranormal Parentage' clawed at the heels of the lasts on my list of favorite episodes for their inventiveness, meta capabilities, and just something any other show can't think of doing or pulling off; Remedial Chaos Theory, Modern Warfare, Introduction to Statistics, Advanced Dungeons & Dragons, The Politics of Human Sexuality, Epidemiology, Digital Estate Planning, Paradigms of Human Memory, Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas, Critical Film Studies, Cooperative Calligraphy, Foosball and Nocturnal Vigilantism

II - 'Conventions of Space & Time' clawed at the heels of the lasts on my list of episode that I enjoyed but didn't have that "extra awesome". Usually either had creativeness, fun, great character growth or just different. This maybe meant it wasn't as funny but that doesn't always matter; Mixology Certification, Communication Studies, Accounting for Lawyers, Pascal's Triangle Revisited, Debate 109, Beginner Pottery, Intermediate Documentary Filmmaking, Paradigms of Human Memory, Basic Rocket Science, Urban Matrimony and the Sandwich Arts, Introduction to Finality

III - These sort of Community episodes aren't "that bad" but sort of boring to watch on the dvds after a few season run-throughs; English as a Second Language, Social Psychology, The First Chang Dynasty

IV - 'History 101'. It was so very bad, something that I can grate my teeth during. I can only name a one episodes that it is equal to or worse than from the Harmon reign; Biology 101.

If this season can stay around the III tier and mostly be in tier II, while giving me a I once or twice... I'll be satisfied and happy. I probably have 25+episodes in I, 35+episodes in II, 10<episodes in III, and now only 2 episodes for the bottom of the barrel.

Bad episode was bad and writers should feel bad.

It is much better than 4.1. It is probably funnier than 4.2. But it is feeling less and less like Community. It felt like they were trying really hard to do Community in the first and weren't quite making it work. So now, it has become a generic sitcom with slightly wackier characters.

As a fan of the show and characters, the episode was good. In terms of story, characters and dialogue, it was good.

It just wasn't that funny. Again.

As someone mentioned above, this season just has a completely different feel without Harmon and the new writers have the characters in far less extreme situations as they were in the past. The thing that made Community such a "niche" show the past 3 seasons is what's missing so far this year.

Episode 1 could've been amazing had they focused on one angle (Hunger Games/TV Show/The pond) but instead it tried to do too much and it didn't work.

Episode 2 was better. Much better with a clear focus and arc and was definitely funny. Still not as funny as previous episodes but decent.

Tonight's was good. Again, clear arc, character interactions, flowed well...it just wasn't that funny.

I've yet to "LOL" at anything so far this season. Whereas compared to previous years, I was cracking up pretty much every episode.

Still love the show, but starting to lower my expectations significantly with this season now having seen the quality 3 episodes in.

For me, Community is feeling/looking more like an ABC sitcom than its old self. I don't know, but it seems to me that every network has its own tone/look.

It's important to remember that they're most likely showing these things out of order. I wouldn't assume that they tried something with ep1 and then gave up on it.

And it seems to me that they know the audience is what it is and they're not going to try and attract new viewers.

the episode was fine .but why did they make Annie at the end of S3 and in S4 desperate?

The complaints about the first two episodes of this season I understood, they were pretty weak. But I thought this episode was fine.

I didn't have any problems with the episode.

I feel the opposite. I thought the first 2 episodes were fine, but thought this one was week.

I take it from this episode that in their apartment, Annie has her own room, Troy has his own room, and Abed now sleeps full-time in the blanket fort/dreamatorium.

Troy moved into the former dreamatorium at the end of last season

Yeah, I had assumed that Troy and Abed shared the second real bedroom, and that the blanket fort was just for them to play in (that sounds so, so wrong even typing it out), but I guess Abed actually lives there.

I thought this was the best episode this season so far.It felt like it could be in any other season.

Just from reading all of the comments and seeing the vibe in general it seems like people are going to hardcore nitpick regardless because of the behind the scenes situation. Once again...this season has been just fine. There has been no major difference and I was one of the ones expecting the worst. If you think this season has been weak I could easily go back into previous seasons and point out episodes that were on the same level or even worse. Having said that...I do wish Harmon was still involved...BUT they have been managing so far without him. I have enjoyed this season very much so far and the latest episode was the best.

Fine as in on par or just as good as previous seasons...yes. What were you expecting? Especially considering the season has been shortened and the main showrunner is gone...this season has been good... so far. It hasn't taken a dramatic dip like The Office did when Steve Carell left for example.

There is a major difference. This is, as some have said, an imitation of what Harmon would do. Another way to put it is that it has been fan fiction. Very slavish fan fiction that attempts to follow Harmon's style, but it feels off. And the most recent episode, while set in the wacky situation of an Inspector Spacetime convention, felt like the generic plotting and storytelling of, say, Happy Endings or New Girl. Which is a shame.

I believe if nobody knew about the drama or that there was a new show runner then there wouldnt be as much complaining. :(
