Pictures look fantastic, at the very least the movie will be visually stunning

At the very least I hope it's sequel worthy cuz I can't get enough of Conan on screen. So many tales to tell.

Nichols really looks terrible in this film.

Pics keep getting better&better!

I wasn't sure about this movie at first but now that they've released more images, I'm pretty much sold on it. Plus, I just finished all of Game of Thrones and Momoa was awesome in that, so I'm anxious to see him in a bigger role. And Lang is the sh**. Love that dude.

Rachel Nichols though... She's a knockout for sure but I've yet to see her in anything where I thought she acted well. I hope she's at least passable in this movie.

I don't know, I have been hoping for the best with this film, but from these images, it just gives me that 'Chronicles of Riddick' vibe, ie the design looks a bit overelaborate. It makes me think the movie is going to be terrible, lol. I hope at least JM is good in the role, even if the script is not that good, I'm hoping to at least see a Conan onscreen that feels like the character I know from the comics(the REH adapted comics).
Hopefully it will be good enough to make money for a sequel, because they are going to do a REH adaption for the next one.

The Donnelly/Oppenheimer script was indeed questionable. On the other hand, the rewrite by Sean Hood(and Andrew Lobel) has apparently straightened the story a bit more to a more Howardian feel.

Aye, I did read an interview with one of those guys, not sure if you posted that link.
JM was reading all the REH stories, and they were apparently always discussing how Conan would react or speak in certain situations, whether it was true to the character the way it was written in the script, I recall reading that somewhere. So he will bring all of that to the role, maybe even getting to change a line or the way a scene was originally written for him by playing it a little differently, how he sees fit.

I am still hoping for the best with this movie, I'm don't usually come into threads with a doomsday sandwich board, and I actually held back with any negative comments on the photos, in case I looked like I was just trying to be a sarcastic, scoffing so and so or whatever.
I'm not hoping for the greatest S&S movie ever made, I am just hoping for a good 2hrs of escapism, with a recognisable Conan, and a story with characters that don't make me cringe. Because, with these sorts of movies, it is so easy for them to fall into self-parody without them realising it while they are filming.

Riddick was one of the best Conan pastiches ever made so I've got no problem with it reminding anyone of it. The second Riddick movie bore more than just a passing resemblance to REH's work and Conan's story arc.

Aye, I have thought along similar lines, CoR being very like a sci-fi Conan. There is a lot I like in that movie, but there are also elements that make me cringe, as some of the more sci-fi elements of the film can be overegged and badly designed. All the bounty hunter and prison stuff is great, but the main bad guys, their design and the way they carry themselves is very overdone, easy to cringe or laugh at, rather than take seriously, so I worry that the bad guys in this Conan film will be the same kind of thing for me. Hopefully not though.

I was never a fan of Riddick (Chronicles, anyway) but thankfully, what I've seen of this film hasn't made me think of it.

However, I wouldn't mind seeing Diesel show up in a sequel to this. A fight between Vin and Momoa could be epic.

Why should detailed set designs set off alarm bells? That's like saying the CGI looks too real and expensive, this movie will suck.

Btw, will this movie be rated R? I hope so because I don't want a PG-13 Conan the Barbarian movie.

Judging by how brutal that red band trailer is, I would say it's a definite R. Actually, the fact that they did a red band trailer pretty much confirms an R rating, doesn't it?

Fredrik Malmberg confirmed the movie will have an R rating. Check out the article in the linkin post 435 it's a really good read about the movie. The article does contain spoilers.

It was more the costume design for the bad guys that gave me that CoR vibe, they look a bit overelaborate and could look silly onscreen, as the costumes for the Necromongers did in CoR.
Inevitably they are going to be parading around onscreen chewing the scenery to an extent, so if they look daft in the first place, that could be a problem.
But, y'know how it is, these things can look way better onscreen in action, I am just giving my initial impressions and thoughts on some aspects of the photos.

How successful do you guys think this will be

Hmmm? I think the film might have sleeper-hit potential. Maybe more. Who knows? August has so far proven to be the one of the best months for this type of R-rated actioneers. The film will go up against "Fright Night" and "Spy Kids 4". While those two have their own little things going for them(kids usually bring in more dough, and horror films always attract the teens), "Conan" should be able to make a significant draw.

I think one of the advantages this film will have is that, after "Captain America" comes out(and hopefully does very well), people will probably be ready for a different type of hero that isn't like Cap, or Green Lantern, and Thor. Conan just might be that. People by this time should be fatigued with superpowers, and colorful fancy outfits with masks. With Conan you instead have a barbarian with no magical weapon of any kind, just a big broad sword and the savagery to take it to whomever it may be; warlords, demons, and sorcerers. No glossy-looking summer flick here, but raw-looking blood and guts action. That might be one of its charms.:cwink:

I really don't know or really care how well it does. The bottom line is Lionsgate's problem, not mine, I'll be watchign it. Any failures to connect with the audience will be from their end, I'm already a Conan fan, as many of us are. I wanna see what they are doing to attract fans who have never read any REH.
