Predators - Part 1

I didn't care for this flick at all, and I adore the first two Predators. I wanted to love it...I TRIED to love it, but I just couldn't.

Same for me. They need to go back to the damn roots of the first two movies. Get a legit actor to be the main, have good writing lol, and have ONE predator do the hunting on human turf,

Predators made me like Predator 2 much more.

I think the heart is in the right place for Predators, and it does have some interesting ideas. But it felt cheap, and made me appreciate how john mctiernan is a master of the action genre. He made the jungle in the original Predator into a living, breathing playground. Here, it felt like sets and them walking around in circles.

I have to think for a living, so I have a soft spot in my heart for dumb action movies like Predators, Prometheus, and Alien vs Predator, where I can turn off my brain, and just enjoy the visuals, fight scenes, and monster porn.

As long as it's not AvP 2, which made the first one a masterpiece. I swear, 'Requiem' was badly shot (overly dark), mean-spirited, and when you step back, they turned two classic franchises into a slasher film set in the boonies. That's pathetic. It doesn't matter if it's rated R anymore.

The AVP films made me hate both franchises.

I don't know. That's extreme. Alien, Aliens, and the original Predator are classics. Don't let a stupid decision made by a studio affect your opinion like that.

Might as well dislike Jaws, The Exorcist, and Psycho due to the sequels.

I should have worded my post better: watching both of the AVP films made me hate the franchises, the same way the prequels made me hate Star Wars while watching them. Aliens and Alien will remain two classics of SF cinema, and Predator the best retelling of Beowulf.

Of all the movies and interpetations of Alien and Predator, Requiem has to be hands down the worst. I can't say enough bad things about it. There's an entire book to be written on why they so completely failed with it.

And those two idiotic directors even failed with Skyline which was suppose to be their pet project. I know they had a low budget and it was amazing with what they did with the CGI, but come one, what about the beeping scripts.

I think there's just hacks.

They made Requiem the worst fanfiction I think Fox would let them get away with. Possibly the worst fanfiction I've ever seen or read, period.

Yeah, while i love my movies violent, it depends on the context. AVP Requeiem was just sadistic with cheap scares.

Screw you all, AvP Requiem was awesome. :o

I'll just say I'm sick of Predators teaming up/giving human survivors a chance if they notice they killed Aliens.

Requiem is a guilty pleasure of mine. Yes, it's terrible. But I'd say it's so bad, that it's almost good again. Plus the action is pretty decent. I only wish they wouldn't have ****ed up the coloring on the DVD/Blu-ray release.

The worst fan fiction is Sl**ball. Trust me. Returning to topic, AVPR had an interesting idea--the Mr. Wolf of Predator doing a cleanup mission--that was soon lost in the execution.

Especially if they do a prequel. Why do they always seem to think that the stories have to go farther and farther into the future? History is filled with great settings for a Predator movie.

Predators in The Wild West

Predators during The American Civil War

Predators during WWII

Predators in Vietnam

Predators vs Vikings (a personal favourite of mine)

Predators in Ancient Rome

Predators vs Spartans

Predators in Feudal Japan (another favourite of mine)

The list goes on, and on, and on. The only limit is the imagination.

Exactly, each one of those on your list would be interesting to see.

Alien vs Predator Requiem is a dumb action movie in the same vein as AvP, Prometheus, Pacific Rim, Transformers 3, GI Joe Retaliation, Battleship, et cetera.

If you were looking for plot in those movies then you were probably disappointed. However, I was looking for monster fights. I saw aliens cream a US military brigade, and I saw a fight between a predalien queen and an advanced predator at the end. There was also a hot blonde chick in a bikini in the middle, and prior to that, a good homage to 1980s teen films.

The 4 most recent entries in the alien/predator shared continuity are dumb monster movies, nothing more and nothing less. Enjoy them as pop corn flicks.

AVP franchise destroyed both creatures. I doubt we'll see either of them for a while and this one while not as bad as the other two didn't help Predator at all.

I wasn't looking for plot but I was looking for more substance than a bunch of rehashed scenes that were already done better in previous movies.

Nothing in this movie was original or worthwhile. The big exception is the Predalien which was ruined in many ways, the least of which it "impregnates" pregnant women by kissing them then having the bursters eat the unborn babies of the mothers. Other than the shock and gore factor (desperately thrown in), it was unnecessary and a cheap ploy to be edgy and dark. Ironic because 90% of the movie is filmed in the dark where you can't see the action anyways.

And they used a Wal Mart stand in for one of their scenes. I vividly remember the eye-roll that got when the script was leaked and they flat up denied it was true. They weren't lying in the sense they took Wal Mart and turned it into a generic store so they could still have that ridiculous stunt scene in there.

I can pull this movie apart piece by piece for the mockery it made of the previous Alien, Predator and even Alien vs Predator movies. If you're ripping off Alien vs Predator and still doing a poor job at it, you've failed as a writer and filmmaker.

Alien Resurrection might have been fanfiction too, Joss Whedon at that, but it still stands up better than this pile of ****.

The creatures were dead prior to AvP. Alien Resurrection and Predator 2 were both underwhelming.

Say what? What's wrong with that one?

Here's an anecdote.

I lent it to a very masculine 16 year old male once. He said he stopped watching it after 15 minutes because it was pure action with no story. If you remember, it was an endless firefight in Los Angeles.

But, but ,but.. Danny Glover :csad:

No seriously, I do not agree with you there. I really enjoy that movie, and I would not call it underwhelming.

There was a long discussion on the original thread, pages 25 through 28 I believe, where we were even discussing Predators as being the genesis of several mythological creatures, such as wyndigoes (not sure if I spelled that right), sasquach, yeti, and various other nasties.

For the Predator vs Vikings story, I proposed that it be the origin of the tale of Beowulf.

There's so much that could be done with this franchise, it's a real pity that Hollywood doesn't seem capable of coming up with anything interesting to do with it.
