CONTINUITY ERRORS: The Official Thread (Warning: Major Spoilers)

First you'd have to get Leech close enough, and only mutants with healing powers could do that, considering she was demolecularizing everything...

Actually, Iceman wasn't made of ice as I thought. He was coated, and NOT transparent. Besides, the same can be said about Colossus, if you're going to make that kind of character bashing.

heres one.. kitty talks to bobby about missing the first snow... hello they live in upstate NY, snow is not a problem unless they suddenly relocated south ! or if kitty was from canada ! lol

Good point... I missed that one.

Interesting thread. There was a bee? I'll have to keep my eyes peeled out for that scene on my third viewing. :p

And yeah, I wondered about the working headlights, too. They weren't on before...or maybe it was b/c of Phoenix's powers?

Well I dunno, one of the biggest continuity error to me is the DP vs. Wolverine thing. If she can break down anything one a molecular level...shouldn't she have done with adamantium! WTF. They should have chucked Leech at her, then stabbed her a$$ with a couple hundred cure darts, then stabbed Wolvie could have stabbed her. Afterwards Storm could have juiced her up enough to turn her body to dust just to make sure she was dead. (That's what she gets for dukin it to Scott.)

LOL!

How bout'...Juggernaut is not a mutant, therefore Leach would have had no effect on him, therefore he would not have knocked himself out running into a wall

Yeah, look for the scene when he's wearing his leather jacket, and knealing in front of Xavier's grave. As soon as you see him, look on his right shoulder, and you'll see a bee land on it, then crawl in between the cracks of his leather leading to his armpit. My first viewing I thought it was a leaf. The second time I knew it was a bee. And the third time I saw it, I was 100% sure it was a bee.

YES!!!!!!! I thought of that too but apparently Kitty took him somewhere...

After seeing the film three times in a row (literally), I was able to detect fourteen continuity errors and/or problems in the film. This is not a bashing, but a means to start a discussion on the things the editors and film makers should have caught, rather than the audience or fans.

Here are the errors:

1) WOLVERINE VS. SENTINEL - When Colossus fastball's Wolverine towards the Sentinel, we only hear one "snikt" slice in the background, then the Sentinel head falls to the ground.

2) BOBBY'S ICE SKATES - When Bobby ices up his shoes for the pond scene, it clearly shows that he does NOT have real ice skates and that he created blades out of ice. The very moment when he catches Kitty from falling, and grabs her, the skate blades are clearly made of metal, when the metal shimmers from the background light.

3) ROGUE'S HAIR CHANGE - After seeing Bobby and Kitty skating, Rogue stops at the front door and speaks to Logan about taking the cure. At first, on the right side of her head, there are two or three strands of hair that make up a kind of backwards "B", but after she finishes her conversation with Logan, they disappear.

4) WOLVERINE'S BEE - When Wolverine mourns the loss of Xavier at his memorial headstone, there is a small honey bee that flies on his left shoulder and crawls down into the crease of his armpit. When he rises, it's gone.

5) XAVIER'S TOMBSTONE - Xavier's tombstone reads "Father, Teacher, Leader". And although "father" is open to interpretation as a serogate father, if taken literally, nothing was ever mentioned of him having a son.

6) COLOSSUS' TV - In theory, Peter has the normal strength of a person of his size and build when he is not metalled up. When Bobby goes looking for Rogue at her room and sees Peter in the hallway passing by, Peter is carrying what appears to be a 32" to 36" television with one arm.

7) MYSTIQUE AS A YOUNG GIRL - I can understand that Mystique can change her shape, but to reduce her size to a 11 year old girl is new to me. This takes place when she is captive on the moving caravan prison, when she taunts one of the guards.

8) STORM'S FINAL BATTLE HAIR - When speaking to Logan about "doing the right thing when the time comes", the back of her head shows her hair very choppy and shorter on the left side than the right. However, a second later when it cuts to the team walking to the X-Jet, the back of her hair is evenly feathered in the back.

9) GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE DROP - When Magneto lifts the bridge and transfers it to Alcatraz island, he obviously plops it right down from looks like a distance of 300 feet in the air. And with his mutant following standing right behind him, it should have been either an extremely uncomfortable landing for them, or some of them should have been severely injured or died. And, with the sheer weight and dimensions of the bridge, the laws of physics also should have toppled it on it's side and into the ocean, since there were no base/ground supports.

10) GOLDEN GATE NIGHT SHOT - What seems to be immediately right after Magneto drops the Golden Gate Bridge down on Alcatraz island, it suddenly becomes a night scene just as the final battle takes place.

11) X-JET STEALTH MODE - Just as Storm puts the X-Jet in stealth mode, it makes a semi-circle pass by and we see everything about the jet disappear, including the shape/outline of the jet and exhaust flame. But, when it lands on top of the Worthington lab shortly after, you see a transparent version of it, and the exhaust flames.

12) FIRE & ICE FIGHT - When Iceman and Pyro do their power standoff, we see large chunks of ice falling down in the center of where Iceman's ice blast meets Pyro's flame projections. There is a little steam rising, but theoretically, ice should not be so solidified at that range.

13) PHOENIX AFTERMATH - After the Phoenix threat has been neutralized by Wolverine, the thousands of megatons of water that splashes back down to the ground (from 4 thousand feet above) and onto 1/4th of the Golden Gate Bridge, should have wiped out everyone and everything on it... Including the hundred or so operating headlights on the cars sitting on the bridge that were still fully functional AFTER the water splashed down, even though most of the humans seemingly abandoned their vehicles when Magneto levitated it from it's original location. Whoever turned on all those car headlights remains a mystery.

14) WOLVERINE VS. MARROW-MAN - When Marrow-Man sheaths bones from his forearms, it's one long tendrill starting from his bicep and ending with a point coming out of his wrists. Assuming these are made of bone, how could each one have a sharp tip when he throws them at Wolverine. This takes place when Wolverine infultrates Magneto's forest sanctum to rescue Jean.

Now these aren't gripes by any means. And I like I said, I've verified ALL of this information by seeing the movie three times in a row, back to back. If you don't believe me, you're more than welcome to print this list out and bring it to the theatre with you. I also want to go on record as saying that this is probably the best of the three movies, in terms of action... Although it was rather short...

If you've also noticed anything out of place with this movie, feel free to add to the list.
NUMBER 7...did you not remember her turning into the smaller Statue of Liberty in X1???

1) Logan is holding Scott glasses, cut to Storm yelling, cut back to Logan - glasses are gone.
2) In the forest Magneto is saying he wished Charles didn't die, but we all saw Mags left him to die back in
x-2.

Definitely noticed the instant night time scene... boy are you guys observant!!!

14) WOLVERINE VS. Spike - When Marrow-Man sheaths bones from his forearms, it's one long tendrill starting from his bicep and ending with a point coming out of his wrists. Assuming these are made of bone, how could each one have a sharp tip when he throws them at Wolverine. This takes place when Wolverine infultrates Magneto's forest sanctum to rescue Jean.

If you've also noticed anything out of place with this movie, feel free to add to the list.

6) Colossus may not have "Super" strength when he's not metaled up, but the guy is obviously built enough. He looks physically fit enough to carry a tv. Afterall i'm sure he's got a percentage of his power while he's not metaled up.

9) I'm sorry, but 300 feet in the air? Where are you getting these figures from? It didn't seem anywhere near that height to me. Seemed like 40-50ft above ground level. Maybe high enough to cause a bit of discomfort to his super powered friends, but nothing that would cause serious injury.

12) "theoretically, ice should not be so solidified at that range." I'm sorry, are you trying to argue the theoretical physics behind a man who can create ice out of thin air, instantly? It's a super hero movie. Get over it.

13) I'm sorry, your dimensions seem a little too over the top to me... Water, four... THOUSAND feet, above ground level? No. The water MAY have been a few hundread feet. Not thousands. Thousands of MEGATONS of water in the air? God dude. There'd be nothing left in the bay. a ton is 1000kg. And a megaton is a MILLION tons. This isn't the day after tomorrow, this is pheonix raising a little water out of the bay. NOT MELTING THE POLAR ICE CAPS.

14) Since the projectiles in question are internally broken away from the mass that comes down his forarm, i'm going to assume he's got some internal cutting apparatus. It sounds kinda stupid, but i'm guessing the bone is split off somehow inside his wrist.

You made a good post with a lot of valid points, but in some cases I think you were just streching to find flaws that weren't necessarily there.

I still don't think this guy should nitpick over Mystique turning into a little girl when in X1 she turned into a Statue of Liberty model.

I might have an answer for this one... there was a deleted scene, and maybe others..

In the trailer, wolverine said to bobby "magnetos got an army out there, you go to war you might not come home.. she might not come home, your ready for that?"

Though, I think that would have been said a little earlier, It wouldnt surprise me if there were more deleted scenes, one that could explain this and other errors.

He probably puts them in his pocket. That's where he got them to show Jean in the infirmary.

with the Bridge scene, u can look on youtube on the 7 minute preview that aired on fox that it was clearly sunny still when magneto dropped the bridge.

1) WOLVERINE VS. SENTINEL - When Colossus fastball's Wolverine towards the Sentinel, we only hear one "snikt" slice in the background, then the Sentinel head falls to the ground.

It's a danger room Sentinel. It's made of light. The computer projected that Wolvie's claws would have ripped the head off, so off it came. Another possibility: The snikt was Wolvie disabling the Sentinel, and the head came off because it toppled and sheared its own head off in the fall (hit an object or shattered or something). Use your imagination.

I didn't notice it, but this seems a bit of a nitpick. Ice shimmers in light, too. Come to Michigan in the winter and I'll show you some examples of ice looking like all sorts of things.

Missed this, too. It's a minor editing glitch, though. It's certainly no worse than a Nazi wearing a digital watch, or an Imperial Stormtrooper bashing his head on a doorway.

4) WOLVERINE'S BEE - When Wolverine mourns the loss of Xavier at his memorial headstone, there is a small honey bee that flies on his left shoulder and crawls down into the crease of his armpit. When he rises, it's gone.

Please... You noticed a BEE? I missed this. No big deal. Maybe it was a mutant spy that can turn invisible and take the form of a bee... Jeez. Whatever.

5) XAVIER'S TOMBSTONE - Xavier's tombstone reads "Father, Teacher, Leader". And although "father" is open to interpretation as a serogate father, if taken literally, nothing was ever mentioned of him having a son.

First, it's "surrogate" and second, just because they don't mention it doesn't mean Legion/David doesn't exist in this Universe. We never heard of him until late in the comics, so why should the movies be any different?

6) COLOSSUS' TV - In theory, Peter has the normal strength of a person of his size and build when he is not metalled up. When Bobby goes looking for Rogue at her room and sees Peter in the hallway passing by, Peter is carrying what appears to be a 32" to 36" television with one arm.

This is a different universe, not the mainstream Marvel Universe, and not the Ultimate Marvel Universe. This is a Piotr who apparently spent more time outside of Russia (possibly because he was quite young when the USSR collapsed) and doesn't have an accent anymore.

Aside from this, though, I seem to remember seeing several panels in the comics where Piotr was shown as being exceptionally strong- though not quite superhuman- when he was in flesh form. He was a huge farmboy with a perfect physique... I think he could deal with a big TV. It's not like it was a car.
7) MYSTIQUE AS A YOUNG GIRL - I can understand that Mystique can change her shape, but to reduce her size to a 11 year old girl is new to me. This takes place when she is captive on the moving caravan prison, when she taunts one of the guards.

Well, in the comics recently, she's gained the ability to shapeshift and mimic some powers and physical features like wings, claws, etc. so I don't see how this is such a stretch. In the newer comic series, she can change her dimensions to be nearly pancake-thin... So being a little girl seems mild by comparison.

NITPICK! Jeez. Again... NAZI WITH A DIGITAL WATCH. It happens in movies.

So you're willing to accept that he has the powers, but not that he didn't just "DROP" the bridge, but GUIDED it down as gently as he could manage? Perhaps while he was doing that, Jean was using HER powers to cushion everyone from the impact and protect them?

Again, all it takes is thinking about EVERYTHING and EVERYONE that was there, and an explanation presents itself.

10) GOLDEN GATE NIGHT SHOT - What seems to be immediately right after Magneto drops the Golden Gate Bridge down on Alcatraz island, it suddenly becomes a night scene just as the final battle takes place.

Storm arrives and clouds up the sky, or maybe some other mutant did it before she could. Maybe Phoenix did it (Magneto did say she could do just about anything).

And maybe it was dusk. The sun goes down quickly once it's started...

You saw it in-between flame bursts or something. Once standing still, it was easier to make out.

Not really a big deal.

12) FIRE & ICE FIGHT - When Iceman and Pyro do their power standoff, we see large chunks of ice falling down in the center of where Iceman's ice blast meets Pyro's flame projections. There is a little steam rising, but theoretically, ice should not be so solidified at that range.
It is when the guy generating it is super-freezing the air around himself within a 20' radius.

Phoenix was so powerful, and radiating such energy, that she made the headlights and lamps come on through sheer ambient energy in the area. Also, her power was such that as she died, she used what was left of her strength to isolate the water dropping and make it less damaging.

These are SUPER POWERS we're dealing with. Again, use your imagination.

Assuming they're bone. Maybe they're not. Maybe they're drawn from another dimension. Maybe they're flesh or hair (a Rhino's horn is hair). Maybe they're made of light.

Once again. . . Super Powers. Logic gives way to imagination.

So what you've got is a few nitpicks of editing errors, and some things that you were too lazy to think about in terms of super powers, super-science, and suspension of disbelief.

I urge you to stay away from Star Wars. Everybody knows that you can't blow up a gigantic moon-sized space station near a forest moon like Endor without causing nuclear winter due to debris and radioactive fallout.

In other words... Just enjoy the movie.

Is it just me, or did Wolverine heal like in seconds as he was being torn apart by Jean?

I would like to know how you are getting all these measurements for the bridge drop and the water drop...

...you know, a lot of those aren't even continuity related.

I totally agree with this. And I was also thinking of the opposite. How can a man multiply into dozens of clones without losing an ounce of weight? Or how can someone spontaneously regrow limbs? So if people have a problem with scientific errors, there's a reason why it's called science fiction.

It's not a continuity error, anyways.

Have you ever lifted a 32 or 36 inch tv and carried it under one of your arms? Big or not, that's a lot of weight for one person to carry by themselves.

I guess you also didn't consider the series of metal support space underneath the entire length of the bridge, which in itself is at least 100 feet deep, or the height of the building the soldiers jumped off of. Mags didn't just even out with the top of the "soldier's" building and plopped the bridge down, he needed height to do that.

If the makers of this movie are going for real world physics, then Iceman's ice should not have been solid. Bottom line. There's nothing to get over.

If you paid close attention to the landscape shot, the water was incredibly high in the air. Plus, it was still raining water long after Logan had stabbed Phoenix. Storm didn't create the rain because she had left already, and it was foggy at the time too.

I'm not going to explain or try and figure that one out. I'll just assume he shapes them once they come out of his skin. Although, Wolverine's shirt shouldn't have two holes that big from the daggers. If so, where did the two circle pieces of fabric go?... It should have been two tears in the fabric.

As I mentioned in the beginning of this post, I am pointing out the flaws, not bashing the movie. I may have exaggerated in the distance of some things taking place, but if you ever see the movie again, take another look at the entire final battle, from the time he picks up the bridge to after they switch to the next act.

I've probably followed X-Men longer than you've been alive, so I understand that it's a superhero movie with fictional characters and super powers. I also CLEARLY STATED in the begining of this post that there are continuity errors AND problems that I saw... Also, if I didn't like the movie that much, I wouldn't have spent 6 1/2 hours in a movie theatre watching it back to back.... to back.

BTW, I'm also a huge Star Wars fan too. And don't take the science of it too seriously like some people..
