In every Batman movie we see them in leather, all high tech. But we never see any cloth Bat-suits. Let's not count Adam West's lol.

Do you think they could ever work this into a movie? Would you prefer it over the loved/hated leather suits?

No, it wouldn't work - at least not outside a tremendously stylized film series. He would essentially have zero protection. There isn't even a slight chance of this happening in a Batman Begins sequel.

Thank God Nolan doesn't hang around these foruns... please... If any filmaker reads too much of fanboys cryouts we would have "Batman and Robin" crap over and over again...

We just had the honour to have our favorite character becoming the "best movie ever" in the genre... I'm sooooooo happy right now. Anyway I already was with Begins, but to have raving reviews, oscar buzz, BO smashing records, a perfect marketing campaign, and a perfect movie in EVERY way... I can't be more happy. My advice to crying never satisfied pseudofans? Enjoy the hype. I lived the two batmanias (1989 and 2008) but this seems to be a true classic that will be rememberd for decades to come. Please enjoy this moment.

What leather suits? They've all been rubber, with the Nolan movies more than the others. The older movies did employ some leather for gloves and boots or capes, but that's the extent of it. Also, we just saw some cloth used for the TDK suit; remember? The idea of the designers incorporating more of this cloth into the next suit isn't really that crazy. Get a grip, people.

It's been done and done well (if you've ever seen the Batman/Predator/Alien fanfilm) but it makes no sense in Nolan's world.

Yes it could. It isn't like you can wear these rubber suits on your raw skin. chafing. Have this suit on as underarmour. If Batman has to remove part of his suit for any reason, he has that outfit.

The comics get to cheat by artist rendering. The fan film was good but nolan basically put any cloth suits to shame. Imagine setting that thing on fire? Batman couldnt take any of the abuse in the dark knight movie. Superman can get away with it since hes invulnerable. Even spiderman displays this trait to a point but of course super human abilities make up for lack of defense.

No thanks. I actually liked the Dark Knight suit.
what's next? We CGI Batman up so he can jump around and flip like in the comics?

Nice for the comics or a super-stylized version.
Not nice for Nolan.
And you can take that to the bank.

I didn't even like the Batman vs Predator short's costume. Batman needs armor, as mentioned, and we seen we in the films. Dogs, bullets, fire, cloth would provide him no protection. The costumes are steadily getting better for the most part, maybe in the next movie it will be thinner and you will be more satisfied.

Maybe cloth on top of body armor; that seems like it could work ok. I personally don't care one way or the other so long as it does not look ridiculous.

would not work. batman in grey underarmor (heat gear for summer, cold gear for winter. lolz) would be funny, not intimidating

If anything, that could've worked with Tim Burton's films, since he wasn't all that concerned with realism and was more about style. I still don't understand exactly why he wound up redesigning the suit in the first place, like I said, it's not like he was interested in any kind of real world approach. Anybody know?

Oh geez not this crap again...

If anything, the comics batsuit should be re-designed to reflect the batsuit from TDK.

That's what most people will associate the Batsuit with, the movie, not the comics.

The comic suit makes sense in the comic world, there's no reason to force a change on DC just because the movie was successful. The '60s show was successful and we got a decade of ridiculous stories.

Besides its not like the people who saw the movie are all gonna run out and buy comic books, so what do they have to gain?

Actually, the show was inspired by a decade of ridiculous stories, which, due to its success kept going for some more years.

After Nolan's films and whenever the next reboot in the franchise is, I'd love to see the director take a completely different route than this "realism" thing and go super stylized and have costumes straight out of the comics.

Watchmen shows that comic book costumes can look cool on screen (but I agree wouldn't work in Nolan's universe).

But the Watchmen costumes (at least Ozymandias and Nite Owl) look like molded rubber as well... Even moreso than the Begins or TDK suits, they almost look like they came from the "Batman Forever" mold of sculpted muscle suits.

They're still closer to the comics then TDK. To me, fabric doesn't really make the difference.

Yes they could use a more comic realistic suit and I wish they would. In every Batman movie it seems like they do a scene where he gets shot directly in the chest or falls off a building to justify the need for him to be "Iron-Bat-Man". But they don't need those scenes and he doesn't need to be in full riot gear at all times either.

He went out twice as Bruce Wayne when action could and did occur. Policemen patrol everyday not wearing SWAT gear and protect and serve when action happens. Part of the greatness of Batman is the tech and training he puts himself in so that he doesn't get shot and stabbed etc. All the suits ends up being his a way for him to take the beating he seems to think is always coming.

I'd love to see them redesign closer to the Batman: Dead End fan film for the next film and show that his training and prep mean more than the body armor.

That last one is OK. The glowing batlogo is too much of a target, though, and I hate the blue cowl and cape. I generally don't even like them (blue elements to the batsuit) in the comics, and they're horrible in live action.

The one thing that could help give Nolan's Batman a nearly fabric batsuit is something called liquid Kevlar. Essentially looks and wears like fabric, but when hit by a bullet or sudden force, creates a solid mass to stop the projectile. I think the films could adapt this real-life material somewhat and give Bale a TON more mobility and maneuverability, plus look a lot more faithful to the comics.

The problem with fabric is that Batman is even more vulnerable. The Kevlar liquid fabric still has the issue of being thin. Punches and anything close impact would be just as dangerous as regular cloth.

Dead End really gets too much prop for the suit. Can the suit look nice in real life

Yes

Does if work for function

NO

Does that mean it should never be in the movies

I dont know, it sure as hell wont work in Nolans world.
The colors go against batmans stealth and working in the dark(if batman is fighting in a quarry the grey works)
Cloth adds no defense if Batman ever goes against anyone who can hurt him(which is everyone). The jokers knife foot would have ended batmans life right there.

Well the colors actually do work in the night.

See the night sky is not black it is dark blue.

When the stealth bomber was made it was made black for style reasons, which was always looked at as a bad decision because it should of been dark blue to match the color of the sky.

I also made this one with black and grey.

the cloth suit would work in a stylised, Frank Miller directed, R Rated, Dark Knight Returns movie, and that's about it.
