Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Coulson Lives! (the Clark Gregg aka Phil Coulson thread)

Coulson's sass is legendary. :awesome:

Even though there haven't been any hints from Marvel. I'm holding out hope that Agent Coulson will get a cameo in CATWS. It would be fitting since Coulson was the face of SHIELD in the MCU from Iron Man until that unfortunate incident in The Avengers. They could just show him walking through the halls at the Triskelion and I'd squee for joy in the theater. Bonus points if Coulson gets to fanboy over Cap and maybe get some trading cards signed. :word:

It might've been brought up already - but a poster over on IMDb just pointed out (and I totally didn't realize this) that the episode switch of The Hub and The Well had a minor affect on how Coulson's "Tahiti" line plays out.

If you watch The Well in the spot it was originally intended to take place - which is before The Hub - then the sequence of events becomes him having the dream of Tahiti (and waking up suddenly, as though from a nightmare, when the masseuse said the "it's a magical place" line) leading into what happens in The Hub where he catches himself saying the "it's a magical place" line (and can kind of explain why he catches himself saying it).

I don't know, it's interesting (and makes me wonder if when the season is released on DVD/Blu-Ray if they'll have the episodes in the order they aired in or if they'll have them in the original intended order)

It is interesting, but I think it works almost as well in this order, in an escalating sense of way.

I agree, it works well either way, though the proper order does at least explain why he was able to suddenly catch himself saying the phrase.

Beyond that, the fact that he's been having nightmares about Tahiti (even before he "caught himself" in the Hub) probably also ties into the earlier episode where May said she heard him up early, and he brushed it off as needing less rest (which the LMD crowd swallowed, hook line and sinker). In reality, he can't sleep because of bad dreams (which threaten the team).

Why do you say that Coulson's nightmares threaten he team? According to the promos everything threatens the team, but I don't see any threat where Coulson's memories are concerned.

I can't speak for cph9fa, but I think the intention was Coulson's lack of sleep was the threat, not the dreams. Lack of sleep can mess you up in the field. It I might have read that comment completely wrong.

I used to play this mobile Marvel trading card battle game a few months ago but stopped cause it was boring, I recently checked what new cards they added and there's a Legendary (highest card) Phil Coulson card in the game LOL. The games called War of Heroes but I'm too lazy to find the picture.

I was mostly just riffing off the joke how everything "threatens the team". I shoulda used used a smiley. :D

Though Imjenn is correct as well. If he's consistently losing a fair amount of sleep over it, that's not a good thing.

Guess I should play the lottery today than

After seeing the preview for next month's return episode and the glimpses that we saw of Coulson's supposed resurrection, anyone else thinking that Coulson wasn't resurrected by SHIELD and that some other group had managed to retrieve his body and revive him through their own means, which SHIELD found out about but due to whatever they learned decided to keep that a secret?

It would actually make more sense that a different group and not Fury decided to use some "unspeakable" approach, one so grave that Maria said that Coulson can never learn the truth, to revive him.

And if that's the case, I'm betting that one potential reason why this other group abducted Coulson's corpse was perhaps to both test its method on his body along with trying to gain the secrets that only Coulson would know.

It seems clear that Centipede or someone else stole Coulson's corpse after he died on the Helicarrier and experimented on him, probably with Extremis and their toxic Super Soldier soup of serums. Coulson actually died and was zipped up in a body bag; perhaps after he was moved to a morgue he was corpse-napped. As Fury's "good eye" Coulson knows most of SHIELD's inner workings, which would make his mind a valuable commodity for various groups.

Maybe the body snatchers didn't think they would revive anything more than his brain, which perhaps the Clairvoyant could probe. Once they realized that Coulson was alive, did they torture him for information? Did they conduct more experiments on him? Is that why he begged them to let him die? And did SHIELD implant him with happy memories of Tahiti to cover the traumatic memories of the months he should have been dead? Does that explain why the SHIELD doctor didn't want to clear Coulson for field work and Hill said "He can never know" what really happened to him?

Do I sound like LokiD? :word:

Anyhow, I am glad that AOS has finally, finally gotten off the mark and is moving towards telling us how Coulson lived. The explanation looks suitably dark but doesn't paint Fury, Hill and SHIELD itself as bad guys.

But they seem to have made changes since the switch. Like the way "The Well" ends and "Repairs" begins (May/Ward stuff) I don't think you could slide "The Hub" between there.

.

Why would Centipede get Coulson in AOS if they had already experimented on him after he died in Avengers ?

Unless they want to do a follow up (he was a test, and now they are getting confirmation their **** is working)

One thing is sure; Phil accepted the deal because he wants to know what happened to him

And I can see a link with CATWS; IDK why, maybe because of Bucky (although I think he survived thanks to what Zola did to him_the ice)

I have to admit, a group reviving Coulson and not SHIELD is an interesting theory; maybe AIM tested Extremis on Coulson before deciding to do a 2nd test on the soldiers from IM3

The beginning of Repairs I think it's clear it's not their first time together (Ward makes mention of "follow the same plan as before" "so no one suspects"), it's not the morning after from the end of The Well. I think The Hub can still fit in (and in some ways, makes The Hub a bit more interesting knowing that Ward & May are sleeping together)

so we'll be finding out about how Coulson got brought back in January? GAH I can't WAIT!!!!

Yup, we'll learn all about the super duper revivification serum coulson was injected with.

I'm afraid it won't be that simple

We'll see flashes and nothing more- they are going to milk it imo

We'll know for sure in a later episode imo, probably in the one linked to CATWS
They find out how Coulson got resurrected and use that on Bucky ... perhaps

I hope they have something interesting in store. I really don't care what the explanation is, as long as that aspect of the storyline is executed with a modicum of intelligence and creativity. I'd say the odds of are 50/50 based on what we've seen from the show so far.

Compare these two shots, the first one from The Hub (1.07) and the second from Repairs (1.09):

May & Ward exchanged similar glances after the rescue in The Hub and at the beginning of Repairs, when they returned to the Bus after their hotel room tryst. May was more than ready to lead the extraction mission to get Ward and Fitz without Coulson's knowledge, which is out of character for her. Ming-Na said that May's Tai Chi exercises were her attempt to calm herself down because "our boys" were in danger. Then they carried on checking each other without the team catching on to their relationship. Those moments are subtle, but once you know what to look for they're there.

Coulson's hesitation when saying, "It's a magical place," to Hand in The Hub is also understandable when you realize that in the prior episode (The Well) he had a Tahiti-related nightmare.

I didn't think they'd release all the info on it, but, still some kind of actual footage other than what we've seen would be NICE.
I'm just glad we found out about the Cellist he was dating :D

That's "Agent ID"

Ah well... looked like a 10 to me :oldrazz: *lol* (note to self: get eyes checked)

One thing I was thinking about (not that I ever been one that believed the LMD theory.... and I've been fairly vocal about that), but if Coulson is the key to Centipede's Phase 3 for their extremis-cocktail soldiers, I would think that's another thing that negates the LMD theory? I mean, if he were an LMD how would that help them improve their version of Extremis?

Maybe that's just me (like I said, I've never held to the LMD theory as it is, but that also means I'm probably looking for/trying to find little things that negate that theory even if it means pulling things out of thin air *lol* I like Coulson as an every man)

Hope that all made sense, sorry if it didn't

lol Yeah I got to a point wear I needed glasses to read certain things, but one of thing I was having issues reading was a Rand Mcnally street map which even WITH Glasses the street names were WAY too small of print. lol
