Back in 1989 when I was living in Ecuador and Batman premiered the hype was huge but the movie itself left some of the audience scratching their heads.

Case in point although Batman is very popular just as Superman I think that his dark image just doesn't translate well to other countries who were expecting a Superman style of film and while Jack Nicholson is very well known, Michael Keaton's last few movies prior to Batman never reached other countries therefore confusing moviegoers in thinking that Keaton's physical appearance even remotely resembled a superhero.

Plus it's common knowledge that all the Batman films do less than in the U.S. and frankly the average joe would prefer Batman & Robin over Burton's films.

So for any foreign Bat-fans how does the latest Batman film hold up with the audience?

It got a round of applause at the first screening I was at in Ireland. Which is VERY VERY rare. I mean, even at film premiers the film isn't guaranteed an applause here.

In fact, applausing is scorned upon as somethign silly and american, but by god, it was applauded.

Have a little human faith in others.

I don't know what the hell you're talking about. Other countries dig Batman just as much as you guys do in America. Its just audiences in American cinemas tend to be alot more vocal than the rest of the world, from my experience.

Don't make up BS as if it's "common knowledge".

Well when I used to work at McDonald's which the majority are staffed with minorities and some are not as knowledgable in movie history I asked a co-worker who was Mexican that he preferred Batman & Robin because it had Arnold and more "action".

^^^^^^^^^^

Rock solid argument. I mean, that's just air tight dude.

Some people just like the pretty lights

scottish audiences do not clap for films. never have seen it, never have heard of it.

however, TDK is selling out every showing at the glasgow imax, and the crowds are laughing in the right places. apart from the laughter, everyone appeared enraptured in each showing.

the fact that, not counting the "funny" bits, the crowd was as quiet as the grave is the best possible praise from an audience over here. that's despite the fact that the film is barely ever advertised, just like begins was.

Hey, I'm from Ireland, and I went to see the premier at the Savoy in Dublin, too.

Great experience, wasn't it. Terrific audience. The whole atmosphere was just magic.

Here in Finland i went so see it a couple of times and i noticed that almost nobody laughed or even expressed any feeling towards the movie. So, no applause or anything, but both screening were full. So i guess people like the movie (i don´t have any numbers).

There's different reactions to entertainment all across the world. In Japan for example, when a movie is found to be in high regards, it will be applauded with silence.

So it's really up to how your culture traditionally celebrate the art of cinema.

The savoy is CLASS for premiers though.

When I went to see the Premier of Once Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova played a few of the songs at the end of it, live... In person! Including the oscar winner.

But yea, of all the premiers i've been to there, the atmosphere was never so electric.

Well, at the showing in Brussels, that I attented people clapped. Not everybody, but at least half the room or more.

Well, I guess to answer this I'll break it down into each screening I've been to:

1st (Preview screening on the 14th of July) - Packed out, tickets to this were gone in 7 minutes. Crowd seemed utterly floored every time Heath was on-screen. Huge applause at the end, and once again at the dedication to Heath and Conway.

2nd (Private Gold Class screening) - Only 30 people in the cinema but everyone laughed, gasped and jumped at the appropriate times. I think there were a few claps but everyone was mostly too busy smiling and turning around to the people next to them to start discussing it immediately.

3rd (Drive-in theater) - Was showing with Speed Racer... and... well, as soon as The Dark Knight finished, about 90% of the cars left. Still don't know why Speed Racer was shown last!

4th (Standard screening, Senstadium theatre) - No applause at the end, but since we're into the 4th weekend in Australia too, I'm not all that surprised. A lot of children and families in this screening, who I was expecting would leave at certain 'violent' moments during the film. No-one left. People laughed quite loudly at the appropriate times, and jumped literally feet off their chair when the fake Batman hit the glass.

At one screening, some chick literally started having a baby after that scene. Like went into labor.

Yeah, I'm an American and I agree. We are WAY too rowdy and vocal. I mean, it's annoying sometimes how loud and over-the-top a lot of us tend to react to some things..

I mean,...****!

:p

to be honest i think everyone in the world knows who batman and the joker are, from the people in the slums of india to the goat herders or the tibetan mountains.

Same thing. Nobody applaused, but in preview screening people laughed few times. In standard screening everybody were quiet and nobody laughed. My friends and their friends liked TDK, but they wanted to see mummy 3 much more than this...

mummy 3 is just a large lump of cheese. it should be called the chedder 3

It's nice to hear that Batman is so popular all over the world.

Right now, on German TV, they're playing TDK TV Commercials like crazy!!

I went to see it in England at the first preview screening night, in a full cinema. Like Ireland, England just doesn't usually do the whole clapping thing, but when the film ended there was sporadic clapping from around the theatre. Plus a few people turned up 'made-up' as the Joker, which is really unheard of, so overall i'd say it was a huge success.

Oh and the special edition lenticular poster they gave out was sweet :woot:

It was quiet here at the showings I've been to here in Ireland but I did see it at 2pm:o

Apparently all the late showings are always sold out

Crowd is silent as always which suits me and rowdy kids are kept in check (probably something to do with the 15s rating here) and no idiots with phones so I've been happy with my audiences. Buzz has been good though with great word when people step out of the cinema (though the occasional "it's too long" is heard too)

All in all, as good as I'd expect from the usually reserved Irish:oldrazz:
