I'm sure some idiot will jump down my throat about starting a new thread, and this could probably go in either the Joker or trailer threads, but since not all of us have time to look through every 10,000 page thread I figured I'd start this to discuss the reactions to the trailer of friends you have who aren't Batman fans.

I saw I Am Legend with a group of college buddies (none of whom knew about the trailer, obviously) and they were all impressed with the trailer, particularly with the Joker. They remarked that this Joker looks really creepy and scary, and that he looked nothing like Heath Ledger. They all seemed to prefer this Joker to Jack's, saying he was scarier, darker, and more gritty. Interestingly to me, nobody commented on the fact that the Joker clearly looks like he's wearing makeup. While getting upset over no permawhite is certainly a fanboy thing to do, I was surprised nobody noticed or cared at all.

Two of my friends did get into an argument over the Joker's voice, however. One of them said he sounded too much like Nicholson, while another argued he sounded nothing like him.

How did other people you've shown the trailer to react to it?

most people i've shown were blown away. i also went to see a movie last night, that didn't even have the TDK trailer before it, and before the movie, pretty much the entire audience was talking about TDK....granted, it's in Chicago so we're still pretty excited about it, but still...this movie is going to make a MINT.

None of my 12 buddies so far have mentioned Nicholson or permawhite, so I'm not gonna go there.

They did pretty much all universally agree that "this guy looks f'n scary". I don't know how familiar they are with the character, but that's the general reaction I got.

Nothing overblown like "OMG DEY NUTTED SOO MENY TYMES!" unfortunately. These are just regular folk and I'm not about to exaggerate for them. :o

i think the best reaction is my mom actually called me up (she knows of my batman obsession) and said "that batman movie looks so neat!"

I'm still waiting to go to the prologue with my friend, so I'll reply later once I see the reactions of the people at the theatre. :hoboj:

Besides here I post on a San Diego Chargers fan message board. Last night someone started a thread about the TDK trailer there. I've been posting on that board since 4/01 and that's first something like that happened.

My brother, who hates comics, comic book fans, comic book movies and dismisses comics as "picture books" loved this trailer. His mouth was hanging open. Says a lot really.

My cat said TDK looks to be the greatest thing of all time.

I showed my dad he asked..."Who's playing the Joker?" .."Heath Ledger"..."Well...he's better than Nicholson.." :hoboj: I also showed my friends and they were in complete awe, practically speechless.

you're cat said that? no it didn't. why you gotta go and lie? we're innocent people here!

You off the Fire Norv train now?

One of my friends called me after they saw I Am Legend.
"Hello?"

"Why so seeeeerioussssss?!" and then he did this mock laugh of the Joker, and my sides started splitting.

Easy to say, I'm sure he had a positive reaction.

i showed my the trailer to my mates, and it didnt even occur to them to ask about the joker makeup issue...i dont think its a concern for the regular movie fan whatsoever. they all loved it tho.

As a Marvel comics fan only - someone who knows absolutely nothing about the Batman books themselves and has only seen the Icon in Movies & on TV- I am intrigued by the look of this Joker.

Moreover, I am jealous of the treatment the character is recieving. It seems Mr. Nolan truly wants to make a MORE substantial and believable villian for the fans rather than going with LESS like Mr. Story. (ugh)

I'll pay to go see this. Even though Dr. Doom is my all time favorite comic character... I did not pay to see either FF film. (Thank God!!)

Things are looking good for Bat-fans!

every non batman-fan friend i have shown it to so far has absolutely loved it

I showed my 18 year old brother the trailer and he commented "looks like they're getting weirder and weirder all the time..."

He does that a lot... I don't know if he liked it or not... sometimes he says stuff like that to make you THINK he doesn't like it, because he thinks it's a geek thing... :P

Trying to assimilate people, and various reactions have been:

"That's some good ****. When's it coming out?"

"Oh my god, it looks like it's going to be amazing."

"Wow, that Joker's scary."

"Good god Heath Ledger is SO CREEPY. okay so i used to think heath ledger was hot :cwink: back when he was doing that.. first knight thingy? i don't even remember. But now, CREEPY. ZOMG CREEPY." (This is one girl I dragged into the ARG right afterwards as well, bwahahaha. :woot: )

I go to another forum and there was a thread about "I Am Legend" and I brought up the TDK prologue and trailer. One (just one) thought the trailer was rather unimpressive, and nobody in her theater apparently liked it all that much. Three others thought that the trailer/prologue looked downright awesome.

My coworker was like, "Hmm, looks cool" but he's really a fanboy. He's got the Joker poster on his desktop, but he doesn't want to act all excited cause he's "cool" like that. :oldrazz:

I love it when people try to make claims like that. What did she take a poll?
