I have never been to a movie where people have clapped at the end. In Britain it t seems that people usually just get up and leave once the credits start rolling, apart from the handful who stay for the after credits scenes. Maybe it's an American thing to applaud a movie?

Apart from some laughs at some of the humor, and some murmurs about Doc Ock when they saw his tentacles at the end, there was no reaction from any of three audiences I saw the movie with.

I think it's hard to gauge an audience's reaction, after all, you're one person in the theater and not everyone needs to express themselves about a movie, I know that I like to keep it to myself, and I always go see movies alone. I always stay for the entire ending credits as well, nobody does.

What's for sure is I've been thousands of times to the movies, and I can count on one hand the moments where an audience clapped (never happens here) or really had an audible reaction.

My audience didn't react like any of these poll choices. Though some dude near me at the credits was all, "OMG! SPidey is gonna be teh XMEN!??"

:whatever:

When the 'X' flashed on the screen everyone in the crowd got hyped. Then me be me said very loudly, "Relax! They're not connected."

Dead silence after that. Lol.

We akin our movie experiences to that of watching a live sporting event sometimes. Especially during the summer. We're locked in and engaged and respond accordingly.

If you're with a good crowd it can be a lot of fun and adds so much more to the experience.

That's how my audience reacted as well. After ASM 1 the audience applauded and this time there was silence and people just left. People did applaud after Captain America Winter Solider , Iron Man 3, Man of Steel, Gravity, Avengers etc, so it hasn't been that rare in my experience.

Hmmm. It does appear as though the ending is having a real downer on people. Of course, it's hard for it not to, which begs the question - Will the repeat business be as good? Next weekend may truly tell the story.

The crowd was really into it at my theater, they were laughing at the right parts, and the theater went dead silent [BLACKOUT]during Gwen's death.[/BLACKOUT] got a huge round of applause once the movie ended.

Saw the movie a second time and the crowd liked it. They were shocked when the big moment happens and clapped at the end.

The last scene where Spidey and Rhino are about to collide, a guy yelled out "Yeaaaaaah!" not in an obnoxious way but in reality was just saying what everyone else was thinking, "like yeah Spidey!"

A lot of shock during "that moment", appropriate laughter and clapping at the end.

There were a few claps once the credits hit when I saw it.

Not often that that happens over here.

The was a shocked tension in the air when Gwen died, like you could here nothing from the audience, dead silence.

Numerous laugh out loud moments throughout

I love how this poll is exactly mixed at the moment.

Just laughs and an "ouch!" from my sector for Stacy's demise. No applause.

My sector were all annoying teenagers, can't wait to go back once the hype's died a bit.

A half empty cinema made no sound at any stage.

Not much reaction at all, apart from a few chuckles at appropriate places.

Several months ago alot of people on here mocked me because I was sure that they werent going to kill Gwen in this movie for the sole reason that an ending like that would be a real downer for a spiderman movie. Well needless to say I was wrong and they went for it but it seems like indeed its become a really depressing way to end the movie and these crowd reports seem to prove it. I applaud them for taking a risk but I cant picture crowds cheering after a climax like that.

Most everyone in the half filled theater at the first 7PM showing on the first stayed until the credits ended because they were waiting for an after credits scene that never came.
They all left pretty miffed because they were expecting one, like ALL Marvel films have these days.

Anyone else feel like the scene with Harry inside Ravencroft at the end was supposed to be the after credits scene, but got pushed to the end to accommodate the X-men shilling?

The crowd at my IMAX was pretty into the movie. They laughed a lot, gasped at the pivotal scene (a few "Oh no's" as well), hushed silence during emotional moments and a few "That's it/all" after the abrupt cut to black.

All in all I think they enjoyed it.

I'm gonna see it again! I really enjoyed the movie.

I went to the Thursday preview which the audience was fairly packed not sold out they laughed and clapped at the moments they should and was shocked towards the end, of course we all know why. Then I went to a midnight show to see it in IMAX which was somewhat sold out, same thing here and most stayed all the way towards the end credits. Both times the audience seemed pretty mellow.

My theater cracked up when Spider-Man said "I hate this song."

It does seem to be a polarizing movie. I never expected to see it in theaters more than once, and I've already seen it twice ( once in 2D and then 3D IMAX). 3D IMAX was AMAZING! That was like an event. I could watch that movie all summer like that. Unfortunately, it likely will leave IMAX theaters once Godzilla comes storming in.

All I know is that a lot of people walked out with red eyes and sniffling...
Either that or very confused because of the X-Men Trailer.
I had to explain to some people what it really was.

The only movie I've went to that had applause at the end was Avengers...It definitely deserved it.
