Call-Cthulhu-Screens_12-15-16.jpg

Focus Home Interactive and Cynadie Studio have unveiled new screenshots of the upcoming Call of Cthulhu video game showcasing the locals and locales of Darkwater Island.

In Call of Cthulhu, players become Edward Pierce, a detective investigating the death of a woman named Sarah Hawkins. Here’s the full overview, via Focus Home:

You are Edward Pierce, a war veteran turned private detective, in the Boston of the 20s. You have been hired to investigate, on the isolated island of Darkwater, the unusual and tragic death of Sarah Hawkins and her family. Soon your investigation will lead you to the fringes of the paranormal, where reality and illusion begins to blend… or is this really the fruit of your imagination?

Driven by the idea that mankind is irrelevant in an uncaring universe filled with inconceivable horrors, Lovecraft’s dark works have captured imaginations across the world for close to a century. Call of Cthulhu fully embraces these fundamentals, pitting you in a desperate struggle against powers that defy human comprehension.

To uncover the disturbing truth of Darkwater Island, you will venture a deadly path to the very brink of insanity – a concept tightly tied to the Cthulhu Mythos. As your investigation leads you closer to the sphere of influence of the Great Dreamer, you will start to doubt everything you see. You will have to find balance between your own sanity, and your determination in finding out what lurks in the shadows – as they say that madness is the only way that can bring you to the truth.

Between the haunting environments, twisted story, and the ever-looming threat of the Great Old Ones, Call of Cthulhu promises a darkly satisfying experience for Lovecraft fans and newcomers alike.
Call of Cthulhu is due out for consoles and PC in 2017.

Focus Home Interactive and Cyanide Studio have released a new trailer for the upcoming Call of Cthulhu video game dubbed “Depths of Madness.”

The trailer depicts protagonist Edward Pierce’s “submersion into the depths of madness” as he investigates a mysterious death on Darkwater Island in Boston. The video features a number of Lovecraftian themes—“the idea that you’re never quite sure if what you’re seeing is real, or a symptom of madness – or both.”

Here’s an overview of the game, via Focus Home:
Developed by seasoned studio Cyanide, Call of Cthulhu for consoles and PC is an RPG-Investigation game blending psychological horror and stealth mechanics, in a deeply immersive world with an oppressive atmosphere. Today ushers in a new trailer, depicting protagonist Pierce’s submersion into the depths of madness, as he investigates a mysterious death on Darkwater Island, Boston.
A Private Detective, Edward Pierce is a mission to find the truth behind the death of an acclaimed artist and her family on a backwater island. Pierce is used to trusting his instincts, but with whale mutilations and disappearing bodies, this is only the beginning as reality becomes skewed. As your investigation leads you closer to the sphere of influence of the Great Dreamer, you will start to doubt everything you see. You will have to find balance between your own sanity, and your determination in finding out what lurks in the shadows – as they say that madness is the only way that can bring you to the truth.
On a mission to find the truth behind the death of an acclaimed artist and her family on a backwater island, the player will soon uncover a more disturbing truth as the Great Dreamer, Cthulhu, prepares its awakening…

I am incredibly excited for this game yet cautiously optimistic. I really wish the studio making this game had a better track record, but who knows, this could be their breakout game.

I will never not be excited for games that promise me Lovecraft stuff.

GIMMEGIMMEGIMME!!!

Me either. I was disappointed when that game company went under and cancelled Destiny's End.

"No blasting your way through monsters here: there are very few weapons in Call of Cthulhu. Instead you’ll have to keep your eyes peeled to discover as much as you can about your surroundings, Darkwater, and its inhabitants. What you find out will unlock new dialogue options, new quest objectives, and indicate where you should go next to uncover more about the island’s dodgy goings-on. Festering in the darkness are some horrifying creatures and secrets however, so every time you find out something you’ll loose a little bit of your sanity (more on that later) because it’s hard to come to terms with the horrifying Lovecraftian truth. "

I can only get so erect.

Call of Cthulhu second gameplay trailer

Tread further down the path of madness.

Call-Cthulhu-PV_09-20-18.jpg

Focus Home Interactive and Cyanide Studio have released the second official gameplay trailer for Call of Cthulhu.

Here is an overview of the game, via Focus Home Interactive:

Today, we invite players to tread further down the path of madness in this new gameplay trailer, as the Darkwater investigation begins to spiral out of control in the midst of unsettling conspiracies, bizarre cults and even the Old Ones themselves.

In Private Investigator Edward Pierce’s quest to unveil the truth, players will need to rely on a variety of upgradeable Skills to escape the clutches of madness and death. The Spot Hidden and Investigation skill paths let players uncover more clues and draw more meaningful conclusions, unlocking more topics to question in dialogues. Convincing the distrustful locals of Darkwater to reveal what they know will require proficiency in Eloquence and Psychology. Pierce’s Strength skill may also come in handy for when brute force is necessary, or to intimidate impressionable people into offering whatever they’re hiding. Expertise in Medicine and Occultism, improved only through discovering unique books and artifacts throughout the investigation, may grant additional insight – but knowledge can be a curse in Call of Cthulhu. The more aware Pierce is made of the horrors that dwell beyond the fabrics of reality, the more he will fall to insanity, impeding his ability to draw logical conclusions.

Pierce is but a mortal man, with few allies in a remote, unfriendly environment. Whether outnumbered by mortal adversaries or facing foes whose mere existence is beyond human comprehension, offering physical resistance is usually not an option. Making the most of Pierce’s extensive set of skills, along with subterfuge and stealth, is paramount… though escaping the gaze of the Great Dreamer may ultimately prove futile.

Call of Cthulhu is due out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 30.
