Wait, people have a problem with the mag shoots she does when promoting, or the red carpet pics? I wouldn't call any of them revealing, she's not that type.
That's like every thread about women characters.
Not saying it's right, but that's what it's been

I wouldn't say I have a huge problem with it, it just strikes me as a bit weird, especially when you look at the threads devoted to male characters, and it's mostly them in their movie outfits with a handful of behind-the-scenes images here and there. Here (and on other threads about female characters) we have people posting entire photoshoots. It probably wouldn't be quite as weird if it were just one image out of the shoot occasionally, but eventually it kind of ends up looking more like a celebrity photo collection than a forum about a Star Wars character, lol.

Oh, so someone has never been to a Cavill thread. Or Sawyer post about Luke Evans.
Photoshoots, photocalls and film stills seem like rather obvious stuff to post. How people react to them is another matter.
Also, if we are going to get into weird territory, the throwing around of Mary sue every time an action/adventure film has a female main character feels like a more appropriate conversation to have on that front.
No - not at all! I don't want to give that impression. But sometimes those photos do bring out the worst in some folks. I've deleted more than a few posts that left me wishing we could fumigate this forum.
Gotcha, I try to keep an eye out for any crude comments and only post the new shoots and red carpet pics that pertain to the movies Daisy is promoting.

You're fine...sorry if I gave the impression that I'm offended by photos. I'm not. Just creeps.
It was kind of funny how some folks got SO MAD over the Kylo Ren shirtless scene in TLJ, calling it pointless, or just for his female fans. It's like...we've been listening to you people say everything under the sun about Princess Leia in a gold bikini for over 3 decades now, but suddenly a male character goes shirtless and it's "WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT FOR?!?!?!"

But yeah, when you're outnumbered on these forums, sometimes it's difficult to have a discussion about a female character without having to put up with...other comments.

I liked and disliked the joke at the same time. I disliked it because, as you said, humour was unnecessary there. I liked it because it illustrates how self-aware Rian is. He knew that the shirtless moment would generate the reaction that it did. It shouldn't have, but it did.I don't think I've encountered people complaining that Kylo Ren was shirtless but I have heard several women of the female variety complain that he wasn't shirtless enough - that the cummerbund (is it a cummerbund??) covered far too much of Driver's torso.
For me the scene was one of my two complaints about the movie, but not because of male shirtlessness but rather for Rey's reaction. I think it would have been better if either she hadn't reacted because the interactions between Rey and Kylo didn't need humour.
As to the photoshoots, etc, of Ridley and women, I do find it excessive but I also haven't seen any creepiness on this forum.
As long the photos are not of the young lady going about her private business with family, etc. or out with friends there is no harm.

He means that Johnson clearly had a mind towards audience reactions towards his scenes and choices, and sometimes, leaned into them: thus emphasis on Rey's anonymous parents making her "nothing" (a common arguing point used by both Rey Related theorists and their Rey Anonymous opponents), the somewhat shaky grounds for Luke tossing his father's lightsaber over his shoulder and not even bothering to interrogate Rey (making an artistic statement out the gate in the loudest way possible), or here, where Johnson knows that giving Kylo Ren a shirtless scene will distract some people because "Holy kriff, it's Ben SWOLO!", so he has Rey acknowledge that possibility in a humorous manner.
My issue with the line from Rey towards Ben SWOLO! in that scene was that I felt it was making light of an element of portrayal that should, *if present*, be twisted darkly and not played for comedy: Rey's apparently showing attraction towards the man who maimed her closest friend in Finn, murdered a father figure before her eyes, and strapped her to a table and tried his best to violate her mind. This isn't 50 Shades Of Rey; even a strictly physical attraction to Kylo should disturb Rey more than anything else.
...Also, the Finn fanboy in me wants to argue that Kylo's shirtless scene lacked the dramatic potnetial of seeing a shirtless Finn (and probably wouldn't lose any... Visual Stimulation, for those who are into that kids of thing.) Kylo got two pokes in his shoulders and a surface level scar on his pretty-boy face, and that apparently merits some dramatic focus across two scenes. Meanwhile, Finn's walking around with his spine split open, but we'll only vaguely reference that while pointing and saying "Ha! Laugh at the disoriented protagonist the film will largely ignore walking around in his weird medical outfit! Laugh at him, I say!"
They could have given the ladies a little beefcake for a while, then had him turn around, show the scar, and make the audience go "Damn, Kylo messed him up, and he's always going to carry a reminder of when he stood toe-to-toe with a force user to defend his friend..."
What do mean he is "self-aware"?
I think Abrams will not be bested in this and he'll have Poe, Finn AND Kylo get their shirts off.
Or better yet, Hux will go shirtless and no-one will even remember the Kylo scene again.![]()
Im fine with this, btw.
I noticed you only highlighted some of the male characters.
Have you got something against pale skinned, ginger Irishmen?
t:
Oh, hes not bad either. But the idea of the character going shirtless just goes into a whole weird area.![]()

shirts off and playing the Star Wars equivalent of volleyball like that Top Gun scene.

I generally don't like to pick on the actors/actresses that much since they don't have a huge hand in storytelling, but...wow...this just boggles my mind. I expect someone in the film industry (at least this high in it) to have some sort of grasp of basic characterization.
Daisy Ridley doesn't believe that people have flaws? Then what are things like anger and jealousy? (Which she herself acknowledges in the video.) Yes they may be fixable, but they're still flaws. Then she claims Rey doesn't have flaws like this as if it makes the character stronger. Does she not realize that people working through things like anger and jealousy is part of what makes a character interesting? Rey would be a vastly more interesting character if she had anger issues or something. Kylo's jealousy over Vader's reputation is what makes him interesting.
Characters having flaws is a positive!
