Daniel Craig confirmed as new James Bond

My homegirl was like "look at his icy blue eyes" lmao. This dude is the only actor besides Connery that seems like he's issued & taken a real beating before. He looks like he'd slap a woman then kiss her the next minute. This is what a hard ass spy should look like. A man who seems experienced, he actually looks like he's got a license to kill. Clive Owen has said many times he doesn't want to play Bond. He would've probably been damn good. But he just had no interest. So this is a good choice.

Better than any other of the cats mentioned for the role besides Owen. I'm going to say it right now this guy will surprise a lot of people once the film is released provided Martin Campbell doesn't **** it up and actually follows the tone of the novels. He's got a cold yet charismatic demeanor to him. Anyone who's seen Layer Cake knows what I'm talking about. I'm one of those people who didn't like Goldeneye, actually the only Brosnan film I liked was Tomorrow Never Dies. So this to me is the best Bond news in many years.

 Wow, I thought I was the only one who felt that way. Oh joy!

well i have to say the casting of craig is totally UNDER whelming to me.i will however wait to see what sort of a job he does.

I still cannot picture Craig as Bond. Yes, he looks like he took a couple of ebatings in his life, but James Bond should look suave and upper class, and he doesn,t look like that to me.

E-batings? ;)

Anyway, I agree. He just doesn't look like James Bond. Roger Moore, Sean Connery, Dalton, Brosnan and Lazenby all have that dashing smoothness to go with the 6 foot plus frame and the, "I'd rather have a martini but I'll kick ass if need be" attitude.

Remember, Bond is a guy who will step out of a wet suit into a tux. A guy who will smash thru a city in a tank and then adjust his tie.

I don't know if they are doing this on purpose, but all the entertainment shows are showing some really unflattering pictures of him, unless that's how he looks 90% of the time.

What makes me nervous is Haggis and Campbell contradicting themselves and each other. They say so many akward things, like "no Q, no gadgets, Bond is young." Then they say, "oh it'll be the same old Bond we've known and love."

What really bothers me is Haggis' claim that Batman Begins is an inspiration for Casino Royale. Has he even read Casino Royale? I just don't see the connection between Batman Begins and a supposed restart for 007. Why would they restart something that never stopped. James Bond continuity has always been vague as some have already mentioned, why would you restart something that never really stopped.

well everybody knows it's probably Daniel Craig (sigh).. but the official anouncement is tommorow...

Well it’s strange to report news that isn’t even really news yet and we know it’s just a publicity ploy, but we do pride ourselves on bringing you all the news there is to be had.

So in short: Sony Pictures Entertainment have announced that the new Bond actor will be announced tomorrow at a news conference in London. More tomorrow.

There is that upper class thing that is so far missing in Daniel Craig's case. And I don't see him much as a womanizer really. I could udnerstand why beautiful women would fall for the Cooonery version, or Lazenby, or Moore (except when he got REALLY old), or Dalton, or Brosnan. Craig just looks like he is already fifty. Bond has to be more than a nice face, and not all handsome men can be James Bond, but he has to be masculine and handsome. Craig is masculine, just not really handsome.

...And why restart an already established and immensely popular character, and an already established (if very vague) continuity? I doesn't make sense... I think they are just as confused as the fans, and the mistakes they made with DAD has hurted the franchise much more than they would admit. They know somethign went wrong, but they cannot see what.

I don't like to dismiss anything before I have given it or them a chance to prove themselves, but I just can't buy him as James Bond.

And then they also go and say John Cleese will be back as Q.

Brilliant, brilliant choice. He's got that cold, haunted look, but also a sort of, pseudo 60's Steve McQueen-ish quality. They resisited the tempatation to cast a pretty boy,. and cast someone believable as a psychopath (unless you're reading this tomorrow, and Daniel Craig hasn't been cast) Much better than PB.

This is a good step. They've also hired Paul Haggis to assist screen"writers" Purvis and Wade, and hired Martin Campbell, who, with Goldeneye (a moderatley good bond film) he can do character.

So, good director, writer and now fantastic (really, second only to Clive Owen in my book) choice for Bond. Have the planets aligned on this one?

Now, will EON resist the "if it works..." mantra and make something SPECIAL. This is, for the first time in ages a flemming adapt. Come on EON! Drop the formula!!

No:
*Q (John Cleese)
*double entedres
*CGI action
*title song (try a title track, get milo, moby or oakenfield)
*PRODUCT PLACEMENT TM
*gadgets

In other words, an IAN FLEMING adaptation!

It'd be hilarious if it turned out to be Pierce and it was all smoke screen :D

Yeah and Craig has been cast as the villain:up:

I forgot Daniel Craig was being considered, which probably means he'll be a forgettable Bond:o

The new Premiere Mag talks about how Bronson is pissed about not being Bond anymore! :( No word of Craig though

I thought Brosnan was happy to be leaving Bond behind... seriously though, Bond needs to be retired.
