Just wanted to add to the "supers on TV" discussion. Let me start with DC...
* Look, Flash has some seriously impressive visuals, especially taking into account the budget they're probably working with, and overall, I enjoy it for what it is. But the writing absolutely screams "CW". The stupidity factor never quite hits "Arrow season 3 level", but there is more cringe-worthy stuff in there than there should.
* I really don't know why I'm watching Arrow anymore... other than some vague affection for some of the characters and the fact that it broadly falls in the "superhero stuff" folder. The quality of this show has fallen off a cliff. It was never top notch to begin with, and always very "CW" in tone, but the unrelenting stupidity and continuous gaps in logic that have afflicted this season have been unforgivable.
* Constantine was abysmal. In tone and in terms of storytelling, it lacked cohesion from start to end, from top to bottom. I think this was the worst of the bunch. I don't like to root against any non-FFINO comicbook properties, but I really hope this doesn't come back.
* Gotham is frickin' perplexing. Whatever they're trying to do, I'm not on board. I keep re-imagining Gotham as a hard boiled crime drama... but it never ever matches up with what's in my head. There are random, small elements of something I like in an episode, but those quickly disappear into the remaining 35-40 minutes of schlocky nonsense.
* iZombie, I haven't caught yet, but I'm not sure that show is for me, considering its closest comparison seems to be Veronica Mars. Though, I think this has garnered mostly positive reviews thus far.
Unfortunately, I think DC has really dropped the ball (thus far) with their superhero properties on TV. Firstly, I don't think I consider any of those shows quality television, with Flash coming the closest. But secondly, the very fact that these characters and stories are relegated to some B-league pocket dimension shows that WB absolutely does not trust these creators enough to let them play in the DCCU sandbox. Both in terms of filling out a cohesive, satisfying universe and in terms of sheer quality.
And now on to Marvel...
* Agent Carter was good overall, but as a whole, I don't think it ever transcended the trappings of "network TV". It was basically a good show, compared to its network TV brethren, but never really went beyond that IMO.
* AOS was pretty mediocre for large swaths of its first season... not too far from Arrow in terms of quality. However, the second season and especially the recent episodes have been truly excellent. IMO the second season of AOS has been the best superhero television we've ever gotten and is now legitimately among the best shows currently on network TV.
* I expect Daredevil to be considerably better though. While it might not hit the monumental, stratospheric heights of the "golden age" shows like The Wire, Sopranos, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Deadwood, etc., I expect it to actually be compared to that lot... which, in itself, is absolutely miraculous.
