Any news on a blu Ray release of season 1 yet? Find it peculiar I can't find anything on it.

I picked up an issue of SciFiNow which claims that DD is already out on DVD and Bluray. Clearly they're wrong, unless it's about to come out.

Yep they are quite wrong, searched a few times on UK sites and there is nothing for it, not even a pre order

I WANT that blu ray too..hope we get some announcement soon since s2 is coming in march 16

The show is premium content for Netflix, so they probably want to wait a while before it goes to Blu-ray. There could be an exclusivity period that keeps it from getting a blu-ray release.

What would be the benefit of getting it on blu-ray if you have netflix? I mean HBO has great blu-ray releases for their shows with great special features but does Netlfix even bother to do things like that for its shows?

I hope so. Considering its more a Marvel product than a Netflix and with the pre build fan base that comes with it I can imagine the DVD'S wouldn't at least have commentary a few bits and pieces.

Maybe I'm just a bit old fashioned, but I'm hoping that just because Season 2 will feature more "sexual scenes" and stronger violence now that Elektra is back in Matt's life, along with his budding romance with Karen, that the show doesn't resort to the same type of style that was featured in "Jessica Jones".

It works for characters like Jessica Jones and Luke Cage perhaps, but I feel like they shouldn't go off the extreme with the level of vivid imagery that they incorporate into their violence and sex scenes.
I agree. In all honestly, for me, the way they showed the sex in Jessica Jones kind of annoyed me. It felt like they did it just because they could get away with it, most times it didn't really serve the plot. When I read in EW that Daredevil would feature more 'sexual scenes' I rolled my eyes. I really hope they don't do it just for the sake of "it's Netflix so we can". I really liked the tone of season 1, I don't want that messed with too much

I always assumed there isn't a point in releasing it on Blu-ray and/or DVD since the majority of those who watched it have Netflix and can always go back and watch season 1 on Netflix

As far as I'm aware, all previous Netflix original series (Orange is the New Black, House of Cards, etc...) do get released on DVD/Blu-Ray eventually (remember, Netflix isn't *strictly* a streaming service... there are people that subscribe to their Blu-Ray/DVD rental/queue service as well so Blu-Rays/DVD's have to be manufactured at some point). As I've said before, my guess is that season 1 will hit probably around the same time that season 2 is released (as that seems to be the most common time frame for Netflix's other original shows)

Some of the early episodes of Jessica Jones seem rather aimless. She just has a bit of sex here and there, a bit of hard drinking etc. And then they feel like they need to throw in some action or something to give some semblance of a plot or direction. By contrast, the early episodes of Daredevil season 1 felt very focused and tight, and were some of the best.

I don't know if Jessica Jones improves as I haven't finished the season yet. But so far I far prefer DD to JJ. I don't want DD season 2 to emulate JJ. It should be the other way round.

I think they know already how to handle DD s2, its should already have the focus and intensity s1 had and then some considering you dont have to build up the main characters like s1 had to do.

I'm having the same issue with JJ, its early episodes have not gripped me to carry on and make the next episode a must watch like DD did. Maybe it does improve in later episodes but i am having a hard time to motivate myself to watch them, where with DD I had no intention of even considering not watching the next episode. I hope S2 of DD is the same, everything seen so far makes it look that way but I had watched the entire series of DD within a weekend and hopefully S2 will do the same.

I doubt it too. That weekend the buzz is going to be all about BvS and Marvel knows this. They'll release it on a weekend where it can dominate the news cycles.

Hopefully sometime before BvS news starts coming up and stuff. I don't wanna have to wait too long.

-Deleted scenes/out takes/commentary/etc

-Blu Ray video quality absolutely wrecks Netflix video quality. A Blu Ray at 1080p looks as good or better than Netflix content at 4K. Netflix is low bitrate and heavily compressed

-As of now Netflix only offers surround sound in the Windows Store app. So if you're using a game console, Roku, Mac OS, Linux, etc then you're stuck with stereo sound.

-A Blu Ray release gives you access to the show in perpetuity (or for as long as the discs are in working condition, anyway). You only get access to Netflix if you keep paying for it every month, and if your internet is down you're SOL

-Blu Rays can be easier for travel in some circumstances

Yes, apparently Goddard, aside from writing the first 2 eps & outline of S1, also left an outline for S2.

I get what you're saying but I pulled up the details for the latest season of House of Cards on Blu-Ray which is technically Netflix's flagship series and its special features appear to be quite lacking. Apparently no episode commentaries and just a couple short behind the scenes documentary's.

Like I mentioned I love what HBO does for their shows in terms of special features. On the Game of Thrones releases there are literally hours of bonus material and if I pay $50 for a season that's what I expect.

I have a feeling Netlfix is going to attempt to incorporate special features into their streaming. House of Cards actually had some episode commentaries for season 1 I believe.

But if you're big on those other reasons you mentioned than yeah I can see the benefit.

Well Bruce, some people don't have Netflix. Also, Netflix is a streaming service. So if you have a poor connection, the picture quality might suffer.

Also with Blu-ray you wouldn't get just a more consistent, better quality image, you would also get a multitude of extras hopefully.

But the Blu-ray could still expose the show to people who aren't into Netflix and would rather check out a full season of the show right off the bat. Some collectors also like the idea of owning physical stuff.

You missed my first sentence. I asked the benefit if you do already have netflix.

Either way famicommander, summed up the points pretty well.

I'm buying this and Jessica Jones the day they come out on blu-Ray. I have a Netflix subscription but there's so many reasons for me to get the blu-Ray.

If you do, you get the better quality image, the extras, and more play features.

I doubt it too. That weekend the buzz is going to be all about BvS and Marvel knows this. They'll release it on a weekend where it can dominate the news cycles.

Question: Did DD season one "dominate the news cycles"? I loved the show, and I know there was a fair amount of "buzz" but... Dominating the news cycle? I don't know... And I kind of doubt that whenever season two is chosen to drop that it too will "dominate the news cycle". That seems more likely with the really big Marvel projects like Age of Ultron, Civil War or the Infinity War films.

Honestly I feel the only Netflix show that ever "dominates" a news cycle is House of Cards mainly because Netflix pushes it so much, as it is the services flagship.

Either way Netflix promotes stuff within itself anyone logging into Netlix at all will see the new season pop-up.

A movie and a streamed series are apples and oranges and people here are making too big a deal of one affecting the other.

I don't really see how launching the show on the same date is really going to hurt Batman v Superman or send some sort of message. A lot of kids who are going to see Batman v Superman also probably can't watch Daredevil either.

Yeah I cant really see where that logic is coming from either, most people are going to me more than happy to watch both.
