Daredevil Daredevil General Discussion Thread - Part 8

The Reddit leaker had said of Rosalie Carbone that she's barely in Luke Cage season 2, so that might actually be primarily setup for her part in Daredevil season 3.

So if this season does adapt Born Again then Bullseye will most likely take some version of Nukes role I’m assuming.

Or more likely, they're tell their own original story with some nods to "Born Again". I see season 3 as likely being a mostly original story with some elements of "Born Again," "The Murdock Papers," "Death's Head" and a few other arcs thrown in.

I would love if they put in the Murdock Papers.

The mere fact that they've already done the most iconic image from Born Again tells me that they're not doing a direct adaptation.

Yeah this is gonna be quite different from the comics. Doesn't mean it will be bad though.

Yeah, the iconic image was more like halfway through "Born Again". There's not much of Matt's life left at this point for Fisk to destroy. It's more likely that Foggy and Marci are the targets of Fisk's wrath.

More like Nelson and Karen Page.

That ending for Defenders was really problematic. It's going to be a loose adaptation of Born Again at best.

Yeah I definitely didn’t think it was going to be a direct adaptation.

They sorta set things up for Foggy to be put through the wringer, with him making remarks in The Defenders about him possibly getting disbarred (talking with Matt at Josie's about how he's relieved Karen didn't have them both disbarred; and later, when delivering Matt's suit to the precinct, Foggy says that if the cops put two and two together, they're both getting disbarred).

Extra note, some more photos to swallow:

I am rewatching the first season and enjoying it as much as I did in the first time!

Matt's legally dead. So he's technically not even a lawyer now and has no legal practice. Disbarment is the least of their worries if Wilson Fisk figures out Murdock's identity.

So he'd have to resume his life and figure out an excuse on how to tell everyone, the state bar and authorities included, that he's no longer dead.

Not necessarily (unless there are spoilers out there I'm not aware of). It could play out this way, but it seems to me that would depend on how much time passes before Matt turns up, alive. He probably wouldn't be declared legally dead immediately, maybe not until the rubble under Midland Center is fully searched, which could take a while. And not finding his body in the rubble (which they won't, of course) could delay the process of declaring him dead. But even if he's not legally dead, he would still have to come up with a credible cover story for the time he was missing.

I agree, Matt will have bigger problems if Fisk figures out he's Daredevil.

Based on season 2, I think he already has.

YMMV, of course, but I'm not so sure. The last thing we see Fisk do with regard to Matt in season 2 is order one of his minions to call his lawyer and tell him Fisk needs to "re-examine" the files on Matt. Matt was no doubt already on Fisk's radar, but his meeting with Fisk in prison has probably put him front and center (never a good thing).

So why does Fisk want to re-examine Matt's files? It could be because Matt and Foggy were instrumental in putting him in prison. Or it could be because he suspects or knows Matt is Daredevil. Or it could be because of Matt's threat, at their meeting, to make sure Fisk and Vanessa can never be together. Not the smartest thing Matt has ever done, it definitely got Fisk's attention. Or it could be a combination of some or all of these.

Whatever Fisk knows at the end of season 2, it's likely he will find out Matt is Daredevil eventually, if he doesn't already know. And when Fisk acts on that knowledge, Matt is in for a very rough time.

Just one strong punch is probably not enough for someone to put two and two together, although subconsciously maybe Fisk suspects it.

We know for a fact that Fisk knows the following things:

  • Matt Murdock, despite being blind, can land a punch on a target he shouldn't be able to reliably detect.
  • Said punch was an uppercut hard and accurate enough to split Fisk's lip. While Matt being the son of a boxer can explain his instinct to fight, it doesn't explain his ability to punch like that. He was blinded as a child and orphaned not long after, so while his dad may have taught him to throw a straight punch, that was about twenty years ago. Punching properly takes training to learn and practice to maintain, which means Matt was either lucky, or has had some form of training to learn to uppercut like that. Not entirely out of the question, but quite unusual for a blind man.
  • Daredevil's various masks have all covered the eyes. They could have been fabric that allowed him to see while covering his eyes, or something that works like a one-way window in the case of the helmets, but it's something to note.
  • What Daredevil and Matt Murdock's voices sound like. While Matt uses a different register and speech pattern when in-costume compared to when he's not in the costume, and while Fisk hasn't had hugely extended conversations with Daredevil, the similarity could well have registered.
So, Fisk knows three things that are not entirely explainable. Human brains are very good at retaining information, and while they don't always let us recall everything, we can still process the subconsciously-recorded information. Which is why Fisk is now digging into Matt some more. He knows something is fishy about the blind lawyer who clocked him. He might not be able to articulate what he thinks is up, but the little things are niggling at him. That Matt Murdock is Daredevil is probably just a wild hypothesis of Fisk's right now, but he'll be considering it as one of several possibilities.

Definitely going to be an interesting question of how Matt resumes his lawyer career, depending on how long he's missing. As well as what's happening to his apartment in the interim, since I don't imagine the producers would want to have Matt be forced to room with Karen or Foggy.

How is he not legally dead? They wouldn't find a body anyway. And no one can know Matt Murdock was at Midland Circle.

There's plenty of wiggle room for him to return to his life. The more important question will be, when talking to cops, judges, and the bar association about his disappearance what's he gonna say? A bunch of nuns cared for me and decided not to report it to the authorities?

Couldn't help but share some actor fluff on here, courtesy of Deborah Ann Woll and Amy Rutberg (photos are from the latter's Twitter feed). It reminds me of how much I hope to see some Karen and Marci friendship form in Daredevil season 3.
