Daredevil Daredevil General Discussion Thread - Part 8

I actually would like Typhoid Mary to show up eventually, but I wouldn't be shocked if she gets yoinked by a different Defenders hero. That said, consider that Bullseye's really big iconic plot is a no-go, since they are already doing the Death of Elektra otherwise. So, using Bullseye means coming up with a different angle and focus for him.

Personally, I am inclined to ditch the Fisk connection largely, and make him the Joker analog: an evil, sadistic serial killer who rampages over the city, and only Daredevil can stop him. Make the Bullseye story line structurally a serial killer plot, with your victims and taunting messages to police/Daredevil and focus on the killer's psychology. Its just that, unlike your typical serial killer, he can actually get into meaningful fights with the hero.

My hope is they do some form of the Born Again Storyline. It would be a great story arc for Matt. And it's a great way to bring back Kingpin and deliver on his promise that was made during season 2.

Nothing like seeing your hero beat down, only to rise back up :D.

The problem with Born Again is they won't put Karen Page through the wringer like that.

Well I could see her turning to porn or prostitution if she's absolutely desperate to get a fix, if she becomes an addict. Someone could easily shoot her up with drugs and turn her into an involuntary heroin addict. Or she could turn to it herself to try to dull the shame and feelings of guilt she has from killing Wesley in cold blood in Season 1. And who knows what else she has done in her past.

I could only see that happen to her if something truly traumatic happens and then it snowballs over the season and then it would have to get even worse in the next season. IMHO it can't happen all at once. The way she is now, she doesn't seem like the type.

Yeah I feel like they're gonna need like a whole season just to set up the storyline and then have Born Again the following season.

Yeah, it won't happen now all of a sudden overnight. You'd have to really set that up as a season-long (or half-season-long) arc. And it would be her version of "Demon in a Bottle" for Iron Man, which they never really touched in the movies because it was never going to go there. But in a Netflix show, they could explore something like that and give Deborah Ann Woll the chance to really show off her acting skills. That sort of thing could get her some kind of award. Don't know which awards are for Netflix shows, since it's not a prime time show.

It's all a matter of unraveling one thread at a time in her life until she hits the tipping point and spirals down into darkness. But you'd probably have to tell this story over 2 seasons. She would need a while to get to this place, then you'd need more episodes to show the effect of her having sold DD's identity to Kingpin and his own descent into darkness, and then more episodes to show their recovery. If it had been a 24-episode season like on TV, they could've told the whole thing in one season, but with 13 episodes, that seems like it would be a bit rushed for them to deteriorate, hit rock bottom and then recover.

They would have to really commit to telling that storyline in order to plan it out so far in advance though. And they might need a two-season order already in the bag to make that sort of commitment.

I definitely want to see both Bullseye and Typhoid Mary eventually, along with an adaptation of the Born Again storyline with the Kingpin. And when you add all those cool interactions between Daredevil and his friends, there's a lot to look forward to in future seasons.

The thing is Karen seems to be pretty strong and is doing well on her own. Now she's an ace reporter and seems to have a very understanding boss. All the stress from working for Matt and Foggy, having her life threatened, dealing with Punisher. None of that really drove her to drugs or alcohol. She doesn't seem to be a recovering alcoholic. She would go out to the bar with Foggy and Matt and do fine.

I'm not saying she doesn't have demons she's dealing with or skeletons in her closet. She clearly does. I'm just saying the way Karen is now in the show, it's hard for me to see her going over the edge and becoming a degenerate drug addict and having to climb out of that pit. I think they could do it, but it would have to be done gradually. Like things go bad for her in defenders or season 3 and then it snowballs even worse the next time.

Also, the reason I don't think they will ever go that route with Karen is because people on Twitter and the blogosphere would complain about how sexist and mysognist it is to depict such horrible things happening to Karen. And showing her at such a low point and so desperate in her life that she would sell out Matt's secret identity, not for a small fortune, but just so she can get her next fix.

Agreed she does seem like a strong women but as mentioned she does have dark secrets. I personally don't think (if Born Again happens) that she will turn to drugs and sex. It could just as well be something different connected to her dead brother I believe? But it will be something that for whatever reason will have her give up Matt's secret.

Yes she is strong, but maybe that would be a fascinating look at how someone seemingly strong is deconstructed and torn apart like that, so that anyone who thinks they're standing strong better beware lest they fall as well.

And is she really that strong, or is it a facade of strength, whereas perhaps under it all she's possibly crumbling away bit by bit? If people keep eroding at her foundations then maybe she could eventually give in.

But the whole fall of Karen Paige seems like it could be a series in itself, showing the fall of a good woman who descends into darkness, only to be redeemed later on. Has any series followed that sort of arc before?

It would be a heck of an acting role for Deborah.

I honestly think that Karen Page is a heroin addict and she's been hiding it all along.

Also, I really do want to see Bullseye, Bullet and Typhoid. Those three are my most wanted DD villains. I also want to see Mister Fear but not until Season 4 or 5.

I kind of feel like if Karen was a high-functioning heroin addict we would've seen more signs of it by now.

Hey, simple dumb question, but I thought I'd ask, what color is Matt's tie in this picture? I figured I might feel like making an easy costume cosplay (I've never tried before) and this was obviously a very easy choice. But then I thought I might be more color blind than I realized? It seems almost navy to me. Is that right?

According to the colour chart it's ever so slightly blue, but that could just be the lighting. To me it looks black/dark grey.

Which suit? The one above is grey.

Now I just have to debate whether they'll go for a box set with all of them. I bought Season One to encourage them to release it. But I wonder if I should hold off.
