Daredevil Daredevil General Discussion Thread - Part 8

I swear if Bullseye is not in this season, I will riot, LOL

You will not riot alone.

Yeah. Why can't we get the DD symbol?

Because someone who gets paid a bunch of money to make stupid decisions off of personal perceptions based off of limited insight (probably surrounded by others who think likewise) made the call a "DD" symbol on the outfit was somehow "too much". I get Netflix is more "grounded", but that doesn't mean you drop iconography, you just make it work. If you can't, you should never sign up to bring superheroes to TV/movies/wherever.

If they are, that is stupid. There is no reason to wait that long. That is like saving the Joker for Batman 4

they'd probably complain they're on a "slow burn to Bullseye for next season".

Or "they wanna explore other story options before bringing him in".

Me, too. I'm bored with the Hand. :(

Jay Ali is playing Agent Ray Nadeem. Not sure if they changed Sin-Eater's name or if he's a totally different character.

I didn't particularly buy the Sin Eater theory, fwiw. It's possible, but hardly confirmed.

I'm starting to think we'll get three camps for season 3: Matt, Karen and Foggy (with Matt and Karen getting the most focus) for the A plot; the FBI for the B-plot; and Fisk for the C-plot.

I'm one of the few people that actually REALLY likes the DD costume on the show, well...the second season one for sure. I felt the minor improvements to the head piece made a HUGE difference, but I agree. It can't be THAT hard to work those damn D's into that design! I get why it wasn't there at the end of S1. He hadn't been named by that point, but now there really is no excuse.

Hell, I'm just glad they made the horns so much more pronounced. That was by far my biggest complaint with the version 1 headpiece.

If that's the case then that's some "Walking Dead slow burn" ********. :woot:

One thing I've seen a lot in the discussion mills of Daredevil season 3 speculation is what role the FBI are playing in the story. A lot of the discussion surrounding the FBI's role is that they'll be taking inspiration from the "Murdock Papers" arc, that Fisk will give Matt's identity to the FBI as a "Get out of Jail Free" card. Yeah, there are hints of some Murdock Papers elements being in season 3 (a heavy FBI presence, Fisk being released from jail, Matt's secret identity being at stake).

However, the one reservation I have about the Murdock Papers speculation is the idea that Fisk will give up Matt's identity to the FBI and walk free. Mostly because I doubt any law enforcement agency will want to listen to whatever plea deal Fisk's crooked lawyers might throw at them, due to it being common knowledge that Fisk ordered the murders of Detective Blake and other cops, and there were lots of witnesses who saw mercs in Fisk's employ gun down the FBI and NYPD officers escorting him to jail when attempting to break him out of custody. Hell, the FBI were the people with whom Nelson & Murdock negotiated Detective Hoffman's plea deal.

I can't imagine the authorities would release a man who had his own mercs gun down cops just because he gave up the name of a non murderous vigilantes. If anything, I'm kinda expecting the FBI in Daredevil season 3 and the characters introduced there to have an arc kinda like Misty Knight in Luke Cage season 1 or Dinah Madani in The Punisher season 1: they start at odds with Matt as both pursue the same target (Fisk) but eventually warm up to him and actively start using him to subvert Fisk's enterprise.

Where the FBI ties in with the main trio stories, I would say they'll most connect to Matt and Karen's individual stories. Matt and Karen are going to filling the role of main romantic pair and Karen's also going to fill Ben Urich's shoes, and I can see Karen visiting the FBI on the pretense of interviews with the Fisk task force to get information for Matt to use as Daredevil.

And Agent Nadeem, from the descriptions given of him in the press release about Jay Ali's casting announcement, sounds like someone who would seek out Daredevil for help bringing down Fisk due to some of his fellow agents being on Fisk's payroll (it was established in the season 1 finale that Fisk had FBI agents in his pocket, such as one of the officers in the truck with him). We don't know enough about who Wilson Bethel might be playing, but he's probably playing Leland Drummond or someone like that.

Season 3 is going to have an episode that's dedicated entirely to Karen Page's mysterious past.

WINDHAM — Production crews swarmed Windham and Hensonville this week, transforming the town hall, local restaurants, intersections and a quarry into settings for the third season of Marvel’s “Daredevil” Netflix series, town officials confirmed Wednesday.
“It’s definitely Netflix and the ‘Daredevil’ series,” said Windham Town Supervisor Robert Pelham, adding that he heard crews are filming season 3 episode 9 but wasn’t told that detail directly by production staff.
Daredevil was created by writer-editor Stan Lee and artist Bill Everett. The character first appeared in Daredevil No. 1 published in April 1964). He is known to fans as “The Man Without Fear.” In 2003, Ben Affleck played the character in the feature film “Daredevil.”
Season 1 premiered on April 10, 2015.
The cast of the Netflix series includes Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk.
The hero, lawyer Matthew “Matt” Murdock, is blinded by a radioactive substance that falls from a truck after he pushes a man to safety from the oncoming vehicle. Although sightless, Murdock’s exposure to the radiation heightens his remaining senses beyond normal human ability and gives him a radar sense and superhuman agility and strength.
Ringside Filming planned to begin shooting in Windham on March 26 and continue for five to seven weekdays with about 150 crew members, according to Ringside Filming representatives Rocco Nisivoccia and Frank Trotta from Windham Town Board meeting minutes. Nisivoccia and Trotta spoke with council members regarding safety procedures and possible locations for the third season of their show, according to the town board minutes from March 8.
At the regular town board meeting, they expressed interested in using the Catskill Mountain Country Store as a diner and filming an overnight car crash at the west end portion of Route 12. They were also scouting locations to fly a remote-controlled airplane and the inside of a quarry, according to the board minutes.
By Wednesday afternoon, Windham Town Hall on Route 296 was already moonlighting as Fagan Corners Town Hall with the original sign replaced. A ‘Welcome to Fagan Corners, VT’ sign was also spotted leaning against a house on Route 296, and several crew members were tacking boards on the doors at Fitness Concepts to make it appear abandoned. As of last week, the crew planned to film a drive-by scene on Route 296 featuring the show’s lead actress, according to an email from the production company to the town clerk and Windham Police Chief Adam Brainard.
Crew members on site said they could not confirm details about the shoot, or the name of the show, citing a non-disclosure contract.
The first two seasons of Marvel Netflix’s crime drama were primarily filmed in Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan, according to the movie website International Movie Database.
“They were doing something with our helicopter pad,” Pelham said Wednesday. “I warned them that it’s for emergency use but the chances of us needing it on Wednesday afternoon are slim, but I said they’re welcome to use it.”
Ths show’s team expanded to more sites including ski areas and the country club for staging, Pelham said. They did not need to apply to the town council directly for permits.
“I think it’s a great thing for the town,” Pelham said. “Anything that can get Windham noticed for more than just skiing is a good thing. It’s good for business and good for everyone.”
The film team paid to renovate the inside of the Catskill Mountain Country Store, Pelham said. “It put that store on the map in a different way.”
As street parking spaces filled up with crew cars on Wednesday, many local residents said they were excited to see their town showcased on screen.
“I heard it was ‘Daredevil’ by word of mouth,” resident Serena Astle said. “But when they passed out the papers it said Netflix series R3,” she said, referring to a notice restricting parking on Wednesday. “I think it’s a good thing for the town,” Astle said.
“It would be nice to see the town on film.” Hensonville resident Billi Bush said.
Wendy Krom, a Hensonville resident for 40 years, said this is the first film crew she’s ever seen in town. She noticed production crews packing in and out of the Country Store in Windham this week, but didn’t know about filming on Route 296. “I think it’s pretty nice,” Krom said. “They can portray our beautiful small town to other people.”
“I saw film crew [members] in Nunzio’s,” said Windham police officer Dave Sherman. “It’s great they’re patronizing the local businesses.”
“I’m excited,” Jessika Schreiber, co-owner of ‘Ze Windham Wine Bar, said. “I think it’s nice for a small community like Windham to have people coming in. There’s been several articles about how hip it is to be here, so if it can bring people up here to the Catskills and all the small businesses, I think it’s great.”
Schreiber said one of the show’s stuntmen who specializes in car chases visited the Windham wine bar this week and spoke with her daughter.
The state Department of Transportation issued a special use permit to Touchstone Studios, to replace a street sign at Route 296 and Maplecrest, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, state DOT spokesman Bryan Viggiani said. “They’re working with local police to remove and replace road signs for filming and re-direct traffic around it,” Viggiani said.
It’s not unusual for production companies to approach the transportation department for permits, and the office tries to accommodate them without disrupting rush-hour traffic, Viggiani said. He was also told the name of the show, which he said was standard procedure.
“We have to understand what it’s for and make sure it’s allowable,” Viggiani said. They ensure that there is no public hazard, safety laws are enforced, that the film company is insured and they’ll restore the site to its original condition. “We want to make sure it’s legitmate,” he said.

I mean, why else put up signs for Fagan Corners?

Personally, I think what they're going to do is have something where Matt and Karen leave New York and go up to Fagan Corners for a while. It'll probably involve Karen's past finally being explored. There will be scenes that play out kinda like the bit of Luke Cage episode 10 when Luke and Claire were in his father's abandoned church. It will probably culminate in Karen confessing Wesley's death to Matt, and the shipper in me hopes it culminates in the two of them having sex.

The Catskill Country Mountain Store in Windham is being turned into a place called Penny's Place. Karen's mother runs the place, obviously.

Recently joined, and enjoying browsing though the threads. And I can answer part of this question from several months ago:

Did anyone other than

the Defenders, the Hand and Elektra know that DD was in that building? Who do the police think was in there? Matt Murdock? Or DD? Did anyone even see DD go in? Or why would they think Matt Murdock went there along with Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and Danny Rand?

People know that those 3 are super powered, but not Matt Murdock. Why would anyone think that they would bring a blind lawyer along to a mission like that? He would not be of any use in a legal capacity or as a blind man, if that's all he were. Wouldn't people surely reason that they left him behind somewhere?

Using spoiler tags, for anyone who hasn't watched The Defenders. Yes, there was one person.
Misty knew Daredevil was at the building. He was there, with Luke and Jessica, when Misty arrived before the other cops and asked how long she needed to stall. She had to have seen him. It's odd that she didn't ask what DD was doing there, or what happened to Matt. Maybe there just wasn't time.

I've asked myself the other questions but haven't come up with satisfactory answers. Maybe we'll get some answers in season 3. Or not. I'm not sure how important the answers to these questions will be in season 3.
As Foggy told Claire and Luke, the official law enforcement position is that the events at Midland Circle never happened. And Trish told her viewers the city's official explanation is that "unpermitted construction" caused the building to collapse. So it's possible people won't be asking these questions - not officially, anyway.

I don't think so, seeing as Jessica Jones season 2 never addressed it either and Detective Costa never brought it up in any of his interactions with Jessica.

This is as minor of news as possible, but I have inside information, so hooray for that. I was at my local Comic Con convention recently and met a nice little kid (probably eight or so years old - I'm terrible with ages) and he told me he was in Daredevil. I was a little confused since I thought he was claiming he was cosplaying as a character, but his mother then told me that he's going to appear in Episode One of Season Three.

So, I don't know anything else about the episode, but it'll apparently have a young kid in some role (maybe more than one). I could also see this kid playing a young Foggy Nelson if I want to go crazy with speculation.

Maybe it's a younger version of Karen's brother? Given my suspicions that this is potentially a young Karen?

From the sounds of it, they must be close to wrapping filming on season 3, with SpoilerTV giving the show a wrap date of May 14, this Monday. And what is most baffling is still the high amount of secrecy surrounding the project. Outside of Matt, Karen, Foggy, and Fisk, and the two new FBI characters played by Wilson Bethel and Jay Ali, we don't know anything else about other returning series regulars.

They haven't made a confirmation announcement for the return of Stephen Rider as Blake Tower. I'm hoping to see Tower take a bit more of an active role with some agency of his own, now that he's District Attorney and no longer a subordinate to Reyes. Maybe he'll take part in the prosecution of Fisk for Detective Blake's murder.

Nor have they made a casting announcement for Ayelet Zurer as Vanessa Marianna. And I kinda think there's no way Vanessa doesn't come back. I get the feeling that, with them continuing to have Matt's and Fisk's arcs parallel each other, they'll have Vanessa take on a bit more active role in her fiancee's criminal ventures, given Fisk has lost much of his outside power and most of his former allies are either dead or in hiding. If Vanessa is taking a bigger part in Fisk's dealings, it will probably nicely juxtapose with Karen similarly cementing herself into Matt's Daredevil activities and taking up Ben Urich's role as Matt's newspaper ally.

When it comes to the recurring characters, the only supporting cast member who has outright been confirmed to be involved in season 3 has been Amy Rutberg as Marci Stahl. Marvel hasn't made any official announcement on it, but Rutberg cryptically confirmed her involvement in this interview with Vulkan Magazine from last month. (When asked about upcoming projects, her response was, "I have a super secret project I’ve been working on since November that will be out later this year," which is obviously Daredevil given that shooting began on November 13th). I'm not yet sure how much of a part Marci will have in season 3, but I imagine it will be significantly larger than her part in seasons 1 and 2 combined, probably to the point of her becoming the second female lead. I'm basing this on the fact that, from what I can see from following her on Twitter and Instagram, Rutberg has been primarily in the New York City area since January.

There has not yet been any official confirmation of Geoffrey Cantor returning as Mitchell Ellison, but he's a no-brainer given Karen will be starting season 3 at the Bulletin. And like Amy Rutberg, following Cantor on social media gets me the impression that he's been in the New York City area most of the winter too. And I'm still kinda hoping that Royce Johnson is returning as Brett Mahoney, given that he was a pretty integral part of the Fisk case. I'm also kinda hoping Father Lantom returns and will have a slightly larger part than his one-scene cameos from season 2 and The Defenders.

I don't expect Claire to be in season 3, given that her role as a confidant to Matt has been rendered unnecessary now that Karen and Foggy know Matt's secret.

The production team has also clearly done a good job at keeping plot details under wraps, because outside of Karen's past being explored, we don't know any other story beats at this point in time. (I guess that's a side effect of this team having been at it for almost four years: they know the tricks of the trade to deter onset spies inside and out)

didn't this start filming prior to Iron Fist season 2? Yet IF wrapped like a week ago.

There's photos circulating that shows what seems to be [BLACKOUT]Matt in his old black suit. Unless it's some kind of flashback the red one is most certainly destroyed. Lets just hope this ends up with something a little more faithful this time around, because frankly the suit is probably the worst thing about the show.[/BLACKOUT]

I'll enjoy it if he ends up with something more traditional. I'll hate it if it's an excuse for an entire season without a costume.

Hang on, what are people's gripes with the red suit? Seems perfectly functional, if at least given an in-story explanation as to why he needed to upgrade from the all black outfit to that.

Matt was more vulnerable in the black suit. He took beatings which we knew he was feeling, but he kept on getting back up and fighting. With a suit that lets him take a bullet to the head at point blank range and survive, fight scenes lose their tension.
