DAREDEVIL REBOOT: How would you do it?

  • Matt Damon for Matt Murdock.
  • A more gritty and realistic feel.
  • Karen Page for the lover interest, introduce Elektra in a sequel.
  • Better costume.
  • An R rating, Daredevil was never kid friendly like Spider-Man anyways.

Yes! I agree with you. My choice for DD was Jensen Ackles, though. Here comes the tomatoes...

I didn't like DD, but I don't think the cast has anything to do with it. DD failed because of its writer/director, Mark Steven Johnson, who took a great character and turned it into a movie with stupid Spidery CGI stunts, lousy hard-to-follow action sequences, and the relationship of Matt & Elektra that failed spectacularly, so much so that when she died, you didn't feel much of anything. Oh, and using a rock soundtrack to drive the movie (and as a KROQ listener, even I hate it).

I always think that if I were to do it, I'd take Miller's Elektra saga in his DD run as blueprint. However, I'd break it down instead of jamming all of them into one movie. I'd focus on Matt's origin, his fight against Kingpin's henchmen (Kingpin mainly pulls the strings in the background), and I'd introduce Elektra as Matt's former flame in college. The end of the movie would be Elektra accepting Kingpin's order to assassinate Floggy.

The second movie would introduce Bullseye, and his contract to kill Elektra after she spared Floggy's life. After Elektra's death, Daredevil would then go after Bullseye and later, Kingpin. And the end of movie, you'd see Karen Page selling DD's secret identity to Kingpin, and set up 3rd movie.

The 3rd movie would be based on that graphic novel whose title I can't recall atm. I would remove Nuke and the Avengers, and speed up the 1st act more, but it'd be basically the same.

Anyway, that's my take.

DAREDEVIL REBOOT: How would you do it?

Avoid doing it at all...? Seriously, I don't think that some fans seem to notice how Daredevil is a character who isn't really appealing in the superpowers department and tends to fall into the established realms of other characters' shticks. Crime fighting mixed in with superhuman senses is something Spidey does with much more appeal.

It's simple, in the end- some Marvel heroes are not cut for the big screen.

What?

DD is one of the Marvel Heroes with great opportunity for the big screen!

Am I missing something?

Agreed. Spidey doesn't necessarily do it better, he just does it different. Daredevil has that harder grittier edge that Spidey is lacking. I love both characters but Daredevil has always been at the top of my list of favorite heroes.

I'm sure you meant to type 'Foggy' at the end there, because...ew.

I have been giving it some thought, and I would actually like to see an original story used for a daredevil film.

By Original idea I was always a big fan of the Gang War arc from the spiderman comics, when the kingpin went missing, I would like to see them use that story in a Daredevil film, since the spiderman movies look to be sticking more with the comic book flashy villains.

I would like to see Silvermane and The Rose go head to head, with a variety of the other villains working for them.

Silvermane would be over The Owl and Possibly have bullseye as his lead assassin/enforcer. The Rose would be over Hammerhead with Tombstone as his lead assassin/enforcer. Come up with something in the kitchen that will end up being the turning point in the war and both sides fighting to get control of it, and Daredevil having to systematically take out both sides.

The film end with the rose somewhat the victor, then show him meet up with the arranger and tell him to tell the boss about their success. Maybe even have bullseye betray silvermane, when it is revealed his is actually working for the roses boss the kingpin.

Things to be added to make a better movie:
-Better character development especially for the villains
-less plot holes
-Matt Damon
-More brutality
but
-dont take itself to seriously (but that doesnt mean endless jokes)
-better script and dialogue
-stronger direction
-more life and fun, even though its dark. Not so dull.

All stuff in bold is in the director's cut.

I bought the regular DVD, Should I get the DC version too, I think it's like ten bucks a wal-mart.

My take on DD
Director Frank Miller
DD = Gerard Butler
Elektra = Megan Fox
Kingpin = Nathan Jones (Jet Li's Fearless)
Bullseye =Scott Foley ( CBS series The Unit)
First make Daredevil a trilogy
Start with DD meeting Elektra in college, they date, discuss marriage, and they seperate with the death of her father.
in the 2nd film show Elektra as a member of The Hand Ninja, meeting DD again, now an established super hero, and having them part at the end.

In the final film have The Kingpin hire Elektra to be his #1 assassain after the failure of his now former #1 Bullseye. After meeting DD again Elektra has a change of heart and leaves The Kingpin. DD and Elektra have to first stop The Hand, defeat Bullseye and bring Wilson Fisk The Kingpin to justice.

Dude...your cast sucks...I'm sorry.

Nathan Jones as The Kingpin? Do you have any idea how dramatically complex of a character the Kingpin is? Have you heard Nathan Jones talk? He can't be the kingpin...he's a big dumbass.

Megan Fox...why? because she's hot? No thanks.

Gerard Butler as DD? Meh.

Scott Foley's a good actor, and I love The Unit, but I'm not getting a Bullseye vibe from him AT ALL.

Jensen Ackles is great, but I see him as either the Flash or Hal Jordan.

What was changed in Begins that's the way his origin goes.

You said people hate it when you retcon someone's origin. I was assuming you meant in movies, and Begins is a complete retcon from Batman. But if you were talking about comics, my statement still holds true. Here are some things that were changed:

1) Ages. DC Batman is 25 in Year One. Bruce is turning 30 in Begins.
2) The added "guilt" element. In the comics, Bruce has no reason to feel guilty for his parent's death (aside from maybe not being able to stop it). In the movie, his fear of bats leads to the death of his parents.
3) His training and time abroad is completely different.

Etc.

haha i was disappointed with DD.

i enjoyed the writing, Farrell played a great Bullseye. but Affleck was terrible casting, and the costumes were crap.

for a reboot. i d make it alot darker, alot grittier. hire a better costume designer. lets face it, Bullseye with a baldhead and the bullseye carved into his head was just ridiculous.

casting ideas, they could totally bring back Farrell for Bullseye in my opinion. as for DD, Justin Theroux. :woot:

Justin Theroux is a pretty good actor, I could see him playing Daredevil.

i also think, and this was my feeling, before the Affleck DD movie was even announced..

that in a DD movie, Kingpin should just be CGI mostly. maybe with the actors face superimposed on it.

he was often unusually huge in the comics, dwarfing everyone else.. and it was that sheer size difference that helped lend to how intimidating he was.

without having this size difference i will always think "ok, heres generic crime boss #819871981."

Sorry man, but this idea will suck.
The idea to see an Elektra saga in three movies is suck, for me.
The trilogy is about DD not DD and Elektra. Elektra could be appear in an origins movie (at college, like my idea) or in a third movie.
I think Megan Fox is not a great Elektra. She's nice and stop. I like (i repeat) most Barbara Nedeljakova in this role.
And Karen Page? Foggy? Urich?
No, no. Your idea is a great bad idea.
And Bullseye for me is Colin Farrell or maybe Sam Rockwell. For Karen Page i would cast Emily VanCamp and for Kingpin, for me, is perfect Michael Clarke Duncan.
And DD? Justin Thereoux or maybe Chad Michael Murray!

I happen to like MSJ's take on the character, so I'd keep him as the director. However, Ben Affleck really was the wrong choice to play Daredevil. Someone like Jamie Bamber (Battlestar Galactica) or Orlando Bloom would be a better choice. Jennifer Garner did fine as Elektra, IMO, but she's probably too old now to be a believable love interest for Matt Murdock if Bamber or Bloom were playing him (especially Bloom), so if I was going to recast her, I'd cast BSG supporting actresses Nikki Clyne (Cally), Luciana Carro (Kat), or Leah Carins (Racetrack) in the role. I think Bullseye and The Kingpin were perfectly cast, so I'd keep Colin Ferrel and Michael Clark Duncan in those roles. In terms of the story, here's what I'd do:
- Keep Kingpin responsible for Jack Murdoch's death, but in a more peripheral way (in keeping with the character as portrayed in the Spider-Man animated series from '94)
- Show Matt being blinded as a young man and track some of his training, and then show him meeting Elektra at college
- Have the adult Murdoch trying to nail Fisk/The Kingpin on two fronts, both publicly in the courts and as Daredevil.
-In the course of trying to publicly convict Fisk, Murdoch runs back into Elektra and they rekindle their college romance.
- When Elektra's father goes back on a deal he made with Fisk, Fisk decides to teach the elder Natchios (sp?) a lesson by going after Elektra, and siccs the assassin Bullseye on her. Daredevil gets involved by rescuing both Elektra and her dad, putting him on Fisk's radar. When Fisk realizes that Daredevil is responsible for busting up a recent 'deal' that went south, he tells Bullseye to 'finish the job on Natchios' and then go after Daredevil.
- Daredevil once again interrupts Bullseye's attempt to kill Natchios, but only after Elektra tries to take on the cold-blooded assassin and pays with her life. With Bullseye having killed the woman he loves, Daredevil kills HIM.
- Murdoch traces Bullseye back to Fisk, and goes to confront him, They get into a fight, but Fisk reveals that his obesity is a ruse and beats the crap out of Daredevil before escaping
- Daredevil goes to visit the people he's lost who are close to him, and makes a vow to take Fisk down at all costs
