Daredevil reboot: official discussion thread - Part 2

If it's a TV show, I would rather have the origin at the start. What I never liked about Heroes was that they went back occasionally and revisited their pasts. I got bored of those episodes, because I felt that we had already moved on past those things and didn't feel like having to sit through that. If they did it at the beginning chronologically, then I wouldn't have minded as much.

For a movie, I think they can just have a short flashback but have him start as DD already.
That could work too, kinda like Incredible Hulk. I hated the flashbacks on "Heroes" too after awhile, but for different reasons. It became clear, especially by season 3, that the writers weren't sure where the story should go and kept delving into more familiar territory, i.e. the past. But yeah, all it did was muddy up continuity or tell us stuff we already knew.

In the case of Daredevil, which is considerably more grounded and focused than "Heroes" most of the time, the occasional glimpse into Matt Murdock's past and training wouldn't hurt as long as it doesn't drag down the show's forward momentum, like it did on "The Cape".

I just posted this in another thread, but it's possible that the Kingpin was still "on loan" to Fox during the time Spec Spidey was being developed, so they went with Tombstone.

What kind of loan lasts 5 years? Why would Sony loan Kingpin to Fox for so long? Heck why did Fox loan Kingpin to Fox in the first place? Something doesn't seem right about this.

Dunno, but it's apparent that both Slade *and* Carnahan were operating under the assumption that Kingpin would be their central villain, in two very different scripts. So Fox apparently still has the rights, or the rights to the rights....or....****, my head hurts.

What I also never liked about the episodes set in the past in Heroes is that you were trying to see what happened next in the present, and instead of continuing the story, they would suddenly make you wait and you'd have to sit through all this unnecessary back story. When you're wanting to see what's going to happen in a story arc, you'll want to see these extended whole-episode flashbacks even less because you just want them to get on with the main story.

carnahan said fox already had a script done and set in modern times thats probably the exact reason why they are gonna give up the rights to write a script for joe's 70's vision would take more than 2 months all by itself lol

surprised they did'nt go after someone else who would adapt their script

Joss Whedon "Angel" started off as a 'Hero for Hire' type of show..........interesting :hmm

I would be bummed that I didn't get to see Kingpin in the new movie.

The rights reverting back to Marvel is bad news, the reason? Because Marvel are only able to make 3 movies a year and their schedule is full until at LEAST 2015 and therefore you wont see a movie until that time. So we have effectively given up that 70's version (which I thought the sizzle reel looked FANTASTIC) for 'maybe' cameo in the Avengers.

yay...

^thats how i feel we could of had a 70's serpico/taxi driver dark toned DD with crime lords, riots, maybe even son sam killer

now we may have DD reduced to stark's lawyer in a tiny cameo or if they reboot it it may be like 8 more years away

marvel has

thor 2
cap 2
avengers 2
im 3
GOTG
Ant Man

and even black panther and doctor stranger

DD wont be touched for a long time

I think that they could try to bring Daredevil to tv instead, i think it could work as a sort of Law & Order with vigilantes

But that's real world NYC. :P
Totally different place.
Yeah. Kingpin is a rather fantastical character, so is crime in general in comics, so what if Hell's Kitchen is "bad" in the MCU. It doesn't have a blind lawyer vigilante in real life either.

There's no law about how many movies they can make a year. Money and sales can change things like that quickly.

All these worrying about how DD MIGHT get shelved for a while once it goes back to Marvel, while conveniently ignoring the fact that it was already shelved as it was while in Fox's hands. Carnahan's DD is also treated as it was a certainty if Fox got their THIRD chance, ignoring the probability that he will get strung along just as easily as Slade was.

might of been different slade was just someone they hired carnahan was someone with a vision and impressed fox with his take

Daredevil lends itself to TV far more than Avengers does. You can have a relatively small budget and split the series between crime fighting and court room drama. Get the guy from Dexter to play the lead read he has the look, the smarts and the physicality to play the role.

As an aside I think Avengers on tv is a bad idea you wont get any of the principle actors (except in cameos) epsiodes will cost a fortune and you risk over exposing/saturating your flag ship franchise.

I would like to see a DD series with some courtroom drama. The series JAG had a nice balance between military action and courtroom drama. Some episodes were purely out in the field, either investigating something or in a warzone, while others were just defending or prosecuting someone. Some of course mixed it up with both elements featuring in an episode.

With both action and courtroom drama, it could make for an interesting TV series and not be too formulaic.

^I think you and I are on the same page.
Daredevil's Vol. 2 storylines just read like something you'd see on primetime TV. It's highly melodramatic and would require minimal over-the-top action sequences. There's some issues where he doesn't even suit up as DD, though there's some where he's exclusively in a fight. It'd be a great show if they treated it as well as the Vol 2. writers and artists did.

And just because I was hyped the other day, I put this together:
Daredevil Fan Teaser
Enjoy!

Why did you have a Fox logo at the beginning still? Or why didn't you have a Fox logo with a big strikethrough over it? Or the Marvel Studios logo smashing through the Fox logo?

The / I mean . . . why not?

Daredevil has been a part of the Marvel pantheon since the 1960's. In the 1970's, Daredevil was even offered a spot in the Avengers which he turned down, but his girlfriend at the time, Black Widow accepted it. Recently he's since joined the Avengers.

I know people have an attachment to the Miller stories of Daredevil but that's only one part of Daredevil's history. He's had history where he's interacted with all parts of the Marvel universe. The really dark, grim and gritty, noir style of Daredevil didn't really come full swing until the 1980's and then was adopted more permanently when the series restarted with volume 2 and Guardian Devil.

Why shouldn't he be involved in it though?

Who's the idiot that made DD/Spidey part of the Avengers? :doh:When some the best stories are when they are guest staring in FF/Avengers & Defenders!! Now,that they are Avengers,it's not special anymore. :csad:

Fox didnt even bother with DD for the past 8 years, and only did something recently because they're about to lose the rights. Your point?

If not a tv show which could seriously be ready by next fall,a movie can be made in 2016 after Avengers 2. Not too long and they can introduce the law firm in the other movies.
