Dark Souls II

For people that have got to Drangelic castle. Did you get all 4 of the older souls before going forward? I have 3 and over a million soul memory so the doors are open, went to the first bonfire but am wondering if I should get the last soul before proceeding.

It depends which one have you missed? And what level are you at?

Im missing The Rotten. I haven't ventured down the pit yet. I did The Doors of Pharos but the Rat Authority boss(the big dog with the smaller venomous ones) was pissing me off so I decided to come back to that later. Im at about 110 level at least. Id have to double check but might be up to 117. Drangelic Castle wasn't seeming too tough. I even made it throughout that room with the Sentries that come out of the doors after killing the stone statues close enough to open the doors.

You could I went there as a level 140. I'm a completionist of sorts. The Royal Rat Authority can be a pain. Don't use a shield, two hand it. And always stay under him by his belly and hind legs when he attacks roll towards him; not away or to the side stay under and roll towards.

Thanks, Yeah I am a bit of one too. Im kind of going back through and getting everything I missed, unlocking doors and finding illusory walls. I also haven't consumed any of my Demon Souls yet. Used a few for weapons.
I tried The Rat Authority like 7 times in a row. Even staying under him he was swiping me…I'll get that ****** eventually.
Belfry Luna was a pain in the but. I was literally invaded by Gray Phantoms 6 times just trying to get to the Gargoyles, luckily I found a sweet spot to sit and snipe em off.

I want to play Demon Souls and Dark Souls 1. I've heard Dark Souls 2 is the easiest of the three games.

What makes Dark Souls 1 "harder" than Dark Souls 2? What sort of a character should i roll? For DS2 i went with heavy armor, sword + shield, pyromancy.

Eh I would not say it's easier. They made some things harder and others not to balance it out.

Yeah, each game is both harder and easier than the others in different ways.

Just finished Dark Souls 2. Cannot wait to see what From Software announces at E3 with Sony.

I just today defeted the Ancient Dragon and King Vendrick.

Should i embark on New Game Plus or adventure onwards to DS1?

I would recommend doing either Dark Souls or Demon's Souls.

What is the secret to getting good at this game Dark Souls 1)? I've died a lot of time already near the beginning!

Just patience and persistence. Your first time getting into a Souls game will be frustrating, you will believe it to be impossible/unfair. But it is really none of those things. Your first time in a Souls game you just have to keep playing. Watch carefully, every enemy has a pattern, learn those patterns and exploit them.

Sometimes it's hard to explain, but once you get into a Souls game, you just "get it". And it becomes some of the best games you will play.

What I did long ago was just sit down and make myself play that and only that for a weekend. Then I got hooked, and started to get the gameplay. It is a fair game, you just have to learn it's mechanics. Don't see death as a punishment, see it as a learning experience. After a while, death does not become that bad. (Once in a while you may scream still lol).

Thanks. Can you give me an example of a pattern you learned and benefited from? To be fair I picked it up for the 1st time in a few years not remembering any of the controls (playing with a 360 controller on pc) and the prompts are incorrect...(tells you the wrong button and not the ones you normally use for confirming/skipping menus in other games) from a save point near the beginning of the game and I'm running around with just a broken sword! Is there an in game menu or inventory? Couldn't even figure out how to save, or can you not save?

Lot's of questions there lol.

Well just look above when green and I were discussing tactics with the boss in DS2 called Royal Rat Authority. You stay under the feet, swipe at the legs. Even though it seems wrong, roll towards him when he strikes to miss his devastating side roll etc. And even with just regular thugs/baddies they have only a certain amount of stamina and after making a few attacks you take them out, circle strafe, or many other strategies out there.

I never played them on a 360, so I don't know what to tell ya there. There really is no...save as you know it. Bonfires are resting points (not all the Souls games). and you can quit+save in the menu which will save your stats/items. In DS1 and Demon's Souls enemies never stop respawning (save for mini bosses/bosses) So once you die/go back into a level or rest at a bonfire all the baddies are back. So there is no really saving in the traditional sense. But it does save your progress when you quit and save. A broken sword, can be repaired in a few ways, from repair powder, to certain blacksmiths.

Haha, sorry for throwing them all in at once. Thanks, that's plenty to get me started.

No worries at all.

I always try to play my Souls games when I am finished with most my other games, and there is a drought ahead. At least I did it that way with Demon's Souls. And with DS2 as well.

Are you playing the first Dark Souls? Just continue through the tutorial area and you will get a non-broken weapon. The start button brings up the menu and you can open the inventory from there.

Sounds like a good plan. Maybe I should wait a bit as I won't have a big stretch of time to dedicate to it for a few months.

1st one yes. Oh something must be wrong with mine as Start definitely doesn't do anything and I've tried evey button numerous times to bring up a menu. And the prompts where it tells you to press a particular button to do something, it's always a different (and unnatural) button that actually performs the action. As if this game wasn't hard enough for a new player I'm running around with just a broken sword, completely different and unnatural button configuration that I haven't figured out yet and no access to any menus. :woot:

Ah that's right. You get a bastard sword up ahead if you are melee.

I gotta say i feel glad i started with DS2. DS1 is definitely harder in my opinion. :b

Is Dark Souls 1 server still online? I know Demon Souls isn't.

Yeah there's online play.

Gosh, Demon Souls is 100% solo? Yikes! Well atleast no pesky invaders. :P

Really?

The beginning is always the hardest in any souls game. I think the further you progress you will see there is challenge in both but not one over the other too much.

Dark Souls is still online....and last I checked so was Demon's Souls a few months ago. People keep saying it's offline but I have not seen that yet.

I'm not sure what you're talking about. The 360 controls are the same as the PS3 ones. What do you mean the prompts are always different? Are these not the controls for you?

Start brings up a menu in the upper right corner, you then have to choose the sub-menu.

Anyway, right after the big monster jumps down and you go through a hallway you pick up a shield and your new weapon, it's like 5 minutes into the game.
