Dark Souls - Prepare to die.

I don't know about your first question, but as for the second, yes, you're correct. Your class just determines your starting gear and has a little bit of influence over your stats. In Demon's Souls I started as the Royalty class (a spell caster), and while I still use a lot of magic, I'm currently rocking heavy plate armor, a bow, sword, and a big ass shield.

:awesome:

thanks.

I'm holding the game right now and can confirm the tin case is just a holder for the actual game case as well as the art book. So u get the tin case and inside u get the standard game case and then the art book

In fact my mgr just informed he is gonna let me take my copy home tonight

cool!!

oh....and lucky you.........:o :oldrazz:

I actually was going to pre-order this the other day... but they cut off pre-orders for the collectors edition.. So, I didn't.

I'll just wait for some dope to trade it in due to it being "too hard."

were you trying to preorder from Gamestop??

I was going to stop by my local Gamestop tomorrow and see if it wasn't too late to order the collector's edition.

For anyone hoping this game would ease up on you compared to the last, dont. If anything, this game is tougher. I dont know how it is in the later parts of the game, but early you are asked to take out a few demons with very little equipment and unlike the last game, you can't just go back to a section and grind to level your character up and get more items.

what class do you think would be the "best" for a beginner? or else make it "easier" to start out with?

should you focus more on magic/spellcasting? or more on offensive melee? or a more "defensive" tank class?

Most of the classes are all fairly close together, with no one real class standing above the others, so i dont think it really matters too much what you go with. I went with a Knight and would recommend that as it seems to be the most balanced. You also get to pick a special gift to start out with, i went with a ring that restores a small amt of HP.

Most likely the SKU's for the CE have been cut off. I know ours have as we've already received them in store.

Unfortunately, Pat, it does not. It says it restores HP in the character creation, but if you look at its in-game description it just gives you some extra HP.

The game lies to you, that's how hardcore it is. :oldrazz:

Side note: I decided to order this. Could have been a mistake.

Yea, i found that out the hard way. Im looking at my HP meter wondering why it's not doing anything.

I'm gonna reconnect my PS3 to the net next time I play. I took it offline tonight when I played but according to the reviews, the game is almost unplayable without outside help, I can believe that.

Watched the quick look and this game doesn't look like its for me. I may rent it because the whole really difficulty thing intrigues me but definitely not a purchase

This game is absolutely not for everyone. It's extremely unforgiving and it's not as story driven as an Elder Scrolls. You'll need to sink mad hours in to the game before you can really even progress. There's also a ton of trial and error

Like I said... I'll get it but later on. I really liked Demon's Souls but that game wasn't unforgiving just to be unforgiving. It made you think. Dark Souls however seems like it's just going to be hard to be hard. The *****e of the video game world, if you will...

Pat, have you encountered any of the high level black phantoms the devs put into the game for people playing early?

yeah......I went to Gamestop today, and they said they have stopped taking preorders for the collector's edition.

it's no biggie, though, cuz the CE doesn't include any special in-game content.

since this is the case, I think I'm going to wait awhile before picking this up. maybe closer to Black Friday or XMAS in case there's some kind of sale.

I actually took my game offline last night man. I just disconnected my PS3 from my internet. Im gonna play it online tonight tho, so if i run in to one, ill let ya know.

if I do get this, I'm definitely getting it on the PS3.

since the online experience is one of the unique selling points of the game, and the PS3 has free online...........it's a no brainer for me!!

if I remember correctly, in the 1st game, you couldn't technically "pause" the game. even when you brought up the menu/inventory screen, the game was still going on and you could still be attacked.

is that still the case with this game?

oh.....and is there really a giant Raven in this game?

You can not pause the game, and yes there is a giant bird which looks like a raven.

:awesome: @ the giant Raven!!

so if you can't pause the game. how do you rest ( in game ) or stop to go to the bathroom ( in real life, of course )?

what if you are called away suddenly and have to stop playing?

If you suddenly quit the game, it will start you right where you were when you left, so you can't quit out of a battle or something like that. But, there are always opportunities to get to an area without enemies (or kill all the ones near you) and take a break.

Also the bonfires, which are basically check points, are a safe haven too. This is where you "rest" to fully heal and to level up. However, using the bonfire will cause all the enemies (aside from bosses) to repopulate.

thanks!

so the game "auto saves" constantly in the background, to remember where you are?

and you can save at the bonfires, too?

can you manually save at anytime through the menu screen?

The game does autosave frequently, a little flame in the upper right corner appears when it is doing so. Using the bonfire will save the game.

I'm pretty sure there is no manual save, but I think you would be crazy to ever quit out when you aren't at a bonfire. Hopefully ProjectPat can jump in and give some hands on insight to the saving stuff.

wow. this does sound very unforgiving........

certainly very different from "traditional" RPGs......lol

Yea Geo has been spot on. The only way to "manually" save is by visiting a bonfire and as he said, the enemies will respawn once you do so.

This game is maddening. Iv died at the 2nd demon at least 12 times. I finally figured out a strategy to beat him but am now out of the item I need to do so. Gonna have to do some farming.
