Darthphere Presents: Geeks with Hammers, the Home and Garden thread.

Speaking of grass clippings, I've gone very green with my mower and opted for a reel mower rather than an electric or gas one. It's a bit harder to push, but with my small lawn it doesn't take too long at all to cut it and it would be so wastful to use any other kind. Plus, it's very hipster.

Dude, don't bring yourself down like that. Hipsters don't even mow lawns: they get up at the crack of noon and do yoga until the positive energy cuts the grass for them.

I feel the same way. I was out at my cousin's the other day and he was going to throw away this giant rotten squash he had, so I just took it and put it in the bed of my truck for later. It's now providing the necessary carbon for my compost pile. I am finding it hard though to provide enough brown, carbon rich material to offset all of the green nitrogen-filled grass clippings.

I live in the country so we only cut our 'lawn' during the summer and let the clippings layabout :o

Yeah I don't 'balance' it or nothing. Just stick it in a pile in a raised bed. Mix it around sometimes. Anything non-processed and non-meat get's thrown into it.

Darth is going to be a great husband one day. Get him before it's too late, ladies!

I'm working on it! :cmad: He's amazingly hard to seduce! I even laid out the comics in a romantic trail to the bed. I got nuffin! :waa:

Probably because I was using All-Star Batman & Robin. *sigh* Hate to waste the good stuff.

i wish my grass was emo so it would cut itself....

also, i built this bookcase all by myself

who cares that the pieces were in a box, i did it all by myself haha

I like how the bottom one is backwards. :p The same thing happened to the top section on my bookshelf. :csad:

I just wonder, when any of you are about to strike a nail do you cry out "FOR ASGARD!" at all?

haha i didn't notice that until i was done and by that time i didn't want to do it again

I would love to own a home and do a lot of the house work on my own, assuming that I would have a job that grants me the free time to do it. I would never want someone else to do it for me unless I had absolutely no idea how to do it.

I think I have the same shelf. I bought it to set up my GI Joes on.

I know, pathetic. :(

My projects for this weekend involve putting up some shelves, clearing out some space in the closet, and putting a tint on the back windows of the house. For once, I'm not painting or messing with a vehicle.

i'm thinking about cleaning out the fridge and catching up on all the laundry. boxed up some clothes and stuff i no longer need so i will be taking them to the CHKD to donate.

grass was cut today. would kinda like to repaint the front steps or work on the outside of the house. maybe.

That's a big part of why I don't do menial labor.

Yeah, I got the same one at Target. I live 10 mins away from one (walking) and I carried it all the way from the store, up a steep hill, and to my house, and then built it myself too. I have my dvds and tv shows on the top shelf, my comics and TPBs in the middle, and every book I had to buy because of school on the bottom.

I ****ing hate doing yard and house work, but when I'm done doing it I feel accomplished and mushy **** like that.

rainy day outside means i feel like doing a lot of stuff inside around the house

already got a load of clothes in the dryer, and another in the washing machine

I'm surprised this thread didn't get closed overnight judging by my recent luck with threads.

i actually like the idea of this thread. i think you should make one that's an arts and crafts edition lol i'd be all over that.

I think arts and crafts can fall under the guise of this thread.

I'm not much of a handyman myself, though I do have a couple of projects that I plan to tackle here at home. One is painting the room I'm currently sitting in. Never painted before so it'll be a learning experience. Not sure when I'll actually do it, but probably not anytime soon.

One project I do plan on doing soon is repainting the dryer, which is actually rusted in one spot. I still have to check on what type of paint I'll need and etc.

Question: IKEA, the devil's work or convenient?
