Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Dat J. August Richards Thread

So not next week but the week after? Fair enough.
He'd actually look better with textured, metallic mesh looking pants and shirt rather than those godawful slacks.
Like the material he has for his arms, without needing to hug his nugs.

Like someone mentioned, this isn't his last appearance. And they could continue evolving his look. Such as adding more cybernetic parts to the outside of his body.
I think what we are looking at is visual development on the vest only. In visual development the artist fully visualizes what the thing they are developing will look like. They even draw things like Werewolf ears. Its just so that they directors and production teams, and then the artist who has to make a real world version of it, can see what it will look like.
The fully rendered picture is probably not showing what the final Deathlok should look like. Its just a fully rendered look at what the actor, plus his robot leg and gauntlet, should look like while wearing the vest.
In the promo we see him wearing his coat over his vest:

I don't think he would wear his coat in the final version. So I am thinking, just like at the end of the last episode he was in, where he is wearing street clothes and has a robot leg, I think he is just retrieving their tech for his evolving look.

Even things that will hardly ever be seen will get developed.

I just noticed that it said Phase 2...
Things in Hollywood often come in 3s.

I'm just curious how they will explain the metal being under the skin, is it some sort of coating like they did to Wolverine? How much of Peterson is left? If the metal is built into his face then why isn't the chest plate built into his body instead of being ontop of a Christmas sweater?

Any chance Collins still exists and they are just taking Peterson's tech from project Deathlok?

I highly doubt they'd include Collins now that they're developing Peterson as Deathlok. To introduced Collins at this point would kind of dismiss Peterson as just a throwaway character to pave the way for a character who wouldn't be that different save for a last name.

Also, made this:

you mean like they did with Treavor. . .

Mandarin was a part of a two hour movie

Peterson is a build up from the beginning of the season and is one of the draws of the show at the moment, they won't just kill him off to say 'here's an identical replica of Peterson, but he's called Collins instead!'

That sounds like Arrow with how they have a fully functioning Black Canary already but might kill her off just to replace her with someone with the correct first name (even though she's nothing like BC).

Exactly, it's completely unnecessary. The worst part is Arrow spent a season developing (well, theoretically) Cassidy's Laurel and then made her hateable in Season 2 whilst introducing a great, already trained Canary. They're stuck in a stalemate where they either kill Sara or Laurel, both making the other character seem irrelevant and a waste. (Even though Laurel arguably already is.)

The same would apply here - except Peterson is much further developed as Deathlok and just bringing in the exact same character with a slightly different background and name would be even more pointless than the whole Canary situation.

But yeah, I'm 99% sure they won't bring in Collins or any other Deathloks.

I can see them maybe throwing in a Collins easter egg. Have some file somewhere talking about the earlier iterations of Project Deathlok, with Michael Collins being a previous test subject.

Or Peterson could easily take the alias Michael Collins if he goes into hiding. It would be just a nod to the comic character.

They came up with the tech they gave Peterson pretty quick, and the Marvel-verse spans a pretty vast period of time.

What if Collins developed the tech in the late 90's early 2000's then functioned as the first Deathlok until something happened and maybe he was KIA? Now given what SHIELD found with Peterson they resurrect the Deathlok project and he becomes 2.0.

Why not change the surname of Michael, at the end of his birth saga, for a SHIELD protection plan? Just like a witness!

So do you think Mike's "eye implant" will end up detonating and cause him to have a half-metallic face/head eventually?

Proof that they don't keep his leg concealed under those stupid slacks.

Deathlok about to make someone sorry.

Possibly an image from the shows stinger, notice on his forehead?
I wonder if while looking at himself in the mirror he pulls down on the skin and reveals his concealed self.

That does look perfect, let's hope an x-ray wont be the most we get.

I'm going to hope and assume that's how we first get it, and somehow it becomes exposed.... (he rips it off, a blast melts it, whatever)

Well, now that we know he's still out there, I hope we get to see Deathlok 3.0.

I kept hoping he was gunna see the metal underneath and rip it the f**k off

alas, no such luck

Article/interview with J.August Richards:

Prince George’s native Richards talks about Marvel, ‘Agents of SHIELD’ and Deathlok

A couple of quotes from the article:
Despite having a great relationship with Whedon, Richards said he still had to audition for the role of Mike Peterson for “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Richards said even the Joss Whedon All-Stars have to fit the part in Whedon’s eyes.

“One of the things I love about Joss is, while he is loyal to the actors he’s worked with in the past, he never gives handouts,” Richards said. “It’s always what’s right with the story. So I had to audition and it entailed me doing a lot of things that no one had ever seen me do — play a father … there were a lot of elements to the character that I didn’t necessarily do on ‘Angel.’”

-----------------

“I felt like I just had to play this guy because there’s a line in the pilot that was also in my audition where Mike says, ‘I could be, you know? A hero,’” Richards said. “That line just spoke to me so much because prior to doing ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,’ I was out of work for 18 months. I was going to audition after audition after audition and I wasn’t booking anything.

“There was one particular day in those 18 months where I was working on an audition and I was working on it so hard and I kind of zoomed out from myself for a second and I said, ‘Wow, you haven’t worked for so long, but you’re still throwing yourself into this 100 percent as if you just started.’ … So when I read the audition scene for Mike Peterson and he said, ‘I could be, you know? A hero,’ I just really understood that moment because I know what it feels like to have your back up against the wall and still believe in yourself so completely. Once I read that line, I really understood who the man was and from there it was just easy.”

The portrayal has been cool and the Deathlok Nation vibe is awesome as well, just wish they'd have cut out one of their many on location shoots and allocated that money to make his torso gear less cheap looking. The leg is fantastic, why does the rest look like a kids Halloween costume ?
