It's alway tense filled when wanting to see a certain trailer infront of a movie. It depends on the theater chain, and if the projectionist cares enough. Since The Hobbit is a WB film, WB trailers are automatically attached. An since WB has 100 trailers coming out, Dawn of the Apes might be more of a crab shoot.

Actually if I wanted to see the best and latest trailers, there's a theater in LA called the ArcLight that will play them all. Everyone who works there is a film buff and geek. The only issue is that it tends to be pricey but the Hollywood crowds are always respectful.

I was quite perturbed with the trailers I got before the first Hobbit film. I went during the day so it was if they actively tried to only show trailers for family films like Epic. It was weird.

They're touting it as a geek thing, but they're also marketing it to families and kids, even if the subject matter gets a little grim. I've already seen like three commercials for it this morning on Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network alone.

I've never heard about this. My local theaters play the same trailers regardless of what time the showing is.

Well, Fox moved Apes up a week. It'll now open July 11, 2014.

Guess they got wind that Universal would delay Fast & Furious 7, so they want to bank on that empty slot. I expect Jupiter Ascending to move up to July 18 soon.
