I'm inclined to agree. I wouldn't call it awful but it certainly didn't live up to the book.

"Let's see, how can we reimagine War of the Worlds for a modern day audience?"

"What if instead of a virus, the aliens are destroyed by a COMPUTER virus!?"

"Brilliant! No, wait, that's been done in Independence Day. And after only 9 years, it seems silly that an Earth laptop could upload a virus onto an alien starfleet."

"Ok, how about instead of an invasion from above, the sPaceships were buried underground long ago and aliens are beamed down from the sky on lightening bolts?"

"Well that's completely ******ed. Not to mention it alludes to the fact that these aliens know more about invading other planets than the ones in the book did and would thus be far less likely to overlook the impact a forign disease would have on them."

Cyclops! You survived! :D

this movie looks interesting. love alien invasions.

Saw this on the big screen with Hancock. You know, I asked a few people what they remembered from the previews, and they all said "Day The Earth Stood Still".

I loved the original, such a good message and you get the feeling of what it would be like if an alien arrived and gave us a message like that.

I have faith in the remake. Judging from the teaser the movie is going to be different than the original is a few ways. The more I think about the environmental theme/moral/story the more I think it could work. I would still rather have the anti-violence theme though. But I have faith.

Plus, I think Keanu is a good casting choice.

saw trailer this looks good, maybe this movie will be what war of the worlds wasn't for me (imo) the best alien movie in the past years.

haven't seen the original so i have nothing to compare it to.

I hope so darkseid, war of the worlds was a huge disappointment. Actually so was signs and so was indepence day. Here's hoping they finally get it right. The last great alien movie was Fire in the sky.

I agree with all of you. Comparisons with the original need to stop. Hell that movie is so outdated and no one knows that aside from the internet geeks. But I bet neither of these geeks have watched it.

Also I am sick of watching alien invasion movies where there are weird looking creatures and ****. WOTW was solid until the last act of the movie which was a complete let down and so bad. On top of that it had that annoying Dakota Fanning.

I really am looking forward to this and I know that the general audience also liked the trailer because I asked my friends what preview they liked the most and all of them said that The Day the earth stood still looks like an event movie and most interesting.

You know, would they ever remake close encounters of the third kind?

Only movies that are 50+ year old should be remade.

You're ****in crazy.:o

fire in the sky wasnt an invasion story.... it was an abduction story.

I knew someone would pick at that.

And yes, independence day sucked.

You suck.:o

Ok. But it turned into a comedy. The drunken dad flying into the bottom of the ship. The stupid dialoge of bill pullman. The crap ending of uploading a virus into there own "mother ship". Sucked. :down

This thread leaves a bad movie taste in my mouth.

War of the Worlds kicked ass???
Independace Day was good???
Rob Zombie's Halloween was better???
