Alot of people will see this because of Keanu Reeves for he does interesting characters really. I am seeing this because this December doesn't have alot of movies. I like to go to a movie at christmas day or what not. I guess there will be Inkheart too but this looks interesting.
Did i see Will Smiths son in the trailer ?

It looked like him. Not sure if its him or not.

He was decent in The pursuit of happyness, by far and away his dads best film.

I think we can say the Smith family will be actors like The Bridges and Baldwin familys

This thread leaves a bad movie taste in my mouth.

War of the Worlds kicked ass???
Independace Day was good???

Rob Zombie's Halloween was better???

Well, you sure are in the minority if you thought otherwise.

Is that the guy from tokyo hotel in your avy?

The Day the Earth Stood Still Director on the Trailer
Source: MTV
July 6, 2008

Have you seen the new trailer for 20th Century Fox's The Day the Earth Stood Still? You can do so here!

If you have, MTV has posted an interesting interview with the film's director, Scott Derrickson, in which he is asked questions based on footage shown in the trailer. Here's a clip, in which he addresses the quick flash of Klaatu's (Keanu Reeves) trusty robot Gort that looks a lot like the 1951 original:

"It was intentional," Derrickson said. "I certainly took a lot of time to explore other possibilities. It wasn't just a foregone conclusion in my mind that we would be sticking to the original. I tried looking at a lot of different possibilities, worked on a lot of different ideas with artists and just always a nagging sense that there was something right about the way the original, that there was something about this alien entity choosing a human form or being in a human form that had value even by modern standards, not by 1950 standards. I also am such a fan of the original film. You have to also just have some respect for Gort. Gort is Gort. There’s no question what we designed pays homage to the original."

For more of his answers, go here! The sci-fi thriller, also starring Jennifer Connolly and Kathy Bates, hits theaters on December 12.

It kinda looked odd when that stuff was making that stadium and the truck just melt. Kinda weird

Keanu is a God man. People will always love him, no other actor could be a better Klaatu. period.

Keanu needs to stop making movies, seriously.

Keanu is a very good actor. Watch The Gift, Hardball, Devil's Advocate, Lake House, and Sweet November. He's a very capable actor who receives too much flack from those who don't recognize his talent.

I agree with all of you. Comparisons with the original need to stop. Hell that movie is so outdated and no one knows that aside from the internet geeks. But I bet neither of these geeks have watched it.

I've seen the original many times, and I completely disagree. If you're going to remake a classic film, you need to prove with the remake that there was a good reason to do it. They need to show us why this story is still relevant now, not just a remake because the special effects look better today. It has to bring something new to compliment the original.

That being said, I wasn't that impressed with the trailer. I think an updated version of Day the Earth Stood Still is totally possible, this just looks like it isn't it.

Wow, I really don't like some of the stuff in this...

I'm a little iffy about this movie now, I'm sure it will be a good movie, but not a good remake. All I really like is the casting choice of Keanu, I think he is perfect for this role.

I didnt bother reading the spoiler parts, so i hope its not too bad.

Hell no!!

No Gort!?! Wtf! Totem....what is that? And no 'Klatuu Barada Nikto'?...this doesn't sound like a remake at all. Sounds more like a 'reimagining' (ala Rob Zombie's Halloween....which I hated) ...I don't know if I'll be interested in this. The trailer look iffy too

...A good thing that'll come out of this movie is that I'll like the original more because it will pale in comparison.

Hell no!!

i take it you guys didn't read Hunter Rider's post...

so...while he doesn't deny or confirm the infamous 3 words, he basically said that Gort is faithful to the original.

Keanu said in an interview some time ago, aside that Gort would be the real "Gort", that the "Klaatu Barada Nikto" is there too.

That "script review" from AICN is starting to look very imprecise.

I was pretty blown away by the trailer. I think it looks really amazing and they chose the perfect actor for this role. He just fits it.

lol. Yep. Keanu just reeks of wooden charisma that only an alien being could replicate. :p

But anyway, the trailer has peaked my interest in this movie.

I think the script review is legit but it's probably a review of an old script that has since been rewritten. Scripts are rewritten all the time. Just check out the rearly scriptreview of Hancock ( went under the title of Tonight , He Comes). It's drastically different the the movie.

And here's the interview you mentioned

Among the other changes in the film, none may be more radical than Gort, Klaatu’s robot companion (or leader in some versions), that, let’s face it, looked like the tin-man in 1951. FX should change that, right?

“Hey man, don’t put that tin man down! That was iconoclastic!” Reeves protested. “[But] yes, we have another version of the [robot].”

One thing that won’t change? According to Reeves, he still says the immortal words, “Klaatu barada nikto.”

My guess is that the Totem robot will probably still appear but not in the way it's written in the script.
. You can even see glimpses of it in the trailer ( 1m.08s mark)
