The special FX were probably bad because it was clear from SDCC that Fox was rushing this out to have a winter tentpole.

I wonder what happens to Fox if they have ANOTHER holiday flop on their hands/

They will keep making more because a couple of flops/ a bad year, unfortunately, isn't going to get Rothman fired.

I really do hope this fails like that Nicole Kidman is boxoffice posion movie: Featuring Hugh Jackman!

I'm seeing it this Sunday. Can't wait!! Looks like a great sci-fi film, much like the original with better effects. :) Probably not a movie for ADD people.

That is not this movies problem, being a slow builder is one thing, being utterly bland and hamfisted for 90 minutes is another.

I haven't felt like this about a movie for a long time, but the never-ending ****ing of this movie on TV is annoying the piss out of me.
It feels a lot more than other movies, for some reason.

Also, I hate the kid and his hairstyle.

Yikes- based on the comments I'm seeing here and the less-than-glowing reviews on Rottentomatoes, I think this one will be a Netflix rental.

i figured that out when i saw who was cast, anybody who saw the original could figure out he couldn't pull off the main character.

Well, that's something else you're on because most of the negative reviews aren't saying anything really bad about Keanu at all.

Well, it's December and it's semi-tentpole season, so I will go see it tomorrow.

How can anyone say this film is bombing when it hasn't even started its theatrical run?

Yeah, I saw it tonight at an advance screening on Imax. It was just okay, I was hoping to be wow'd. So glad I didn't pay to see it, although driving around in the rain with a ton of near misses almost didn't really make it worth it. :csad:

By the time you posted that the movie had been theatrically released for more than a day. :cwink:

As for the question itself, I agree. It's really too early to say, but so far the general concensus has been that there is not much to like about this movie.

Maybe they'll FINALLY fire Tom Rothman? :D

Seriously, how much longer are they going to keep that baboon around? Not only has the man driven just about every real artist away from Fox, but he's also lately proven to be completely incompetent. Fox has been on a LONG streak of flops, and sooner or later the company is going to have to realize they need to go in a new direction, and that direction is not one that Rothman can go in.

I saw the movie last night midnight showing, for the most part the film was enjoyable until the end a major let down. :csad:

Is it MAY yet???

Meh, they'll probably hire someone just as worse as Rothman. So don't hold out hope for Fox fixing its image or its politics. :woot:

there was a guy at Fox who recently left the company to join another studio. Supposely this guy is actually legit: young, a geek, and knows movies. But he knew he wasn't going anyway with Rothman at the controls.

Quote from the San Francisco Chronicle:

"After watching this movie for 45 minutes or so, you may start to think that wiping out every human being on Earth isn't such a bad idea. Anything to get Connelly to stop shrieking, "We can change! We can turn things around!" over and over. She is awful in "The Day the Earth Stood Still," topped only by her grating onscreen stepson, played by Jaden Smith. It's bad karma to ridicule kids in movies, so we'll blame the director, Scott Derrickson. No doubt you've seen more natural child actor performances in episodes of television's "Small Wonder."

When can we expect it to be released online?

So how the hell was the Wolverine trailer? That is all I care about.

Just saw this, and Will Smith's son easliy made this one of the best comedies of 2008. I really wish I didn't see it. By the time I got inside the movie theater, they had already shown the Wolverine trailer. :csad:

Anyone else wanna punch out Jaden Smith half way through the movie? Jeez.

I also thought there wasnt enough gort and hated the little killer insects.

Jennifer Connelly never ceases to take my breath away. She and Keaunu were enough for me to like this movie.
