DC May '09 Solicitations

Oh snap, I just saw that they're putting out a Flash trade for "The Human Race!" Yay, it's about time the Morrison/Millar fill-in within Waid's run was finally put into trade form. Pretty soon, Wally West's entire tenure as the Flash will be available for me to re-read in trade form while I fervently ignore the Barry Allen series. :)

Barry's series. I don't really mind Barry as a character, but I don't plan to read his comic.

I'm looking for potential DC stuff so I can start getting into the DC Universe. These are what interests me (or what I already collect).

Potential Pick Ups

Final Crisis Aftermath: Run
Final Crisis Aftermath: Ink
Batman: Battle For The Cowl
Azrael: Death's Dark Knight
Superman/Batman
Brave And The Bold
Flash: Rebirth
Green Arrow/ Black Canary (though I'm probably dropping this)
Green Lantern (though I didn't see it on the list)
Green Lantern Corps
JSA
JLA
Secret Six

I will heartily recommend Green Lantern Corps and Secret Six. The rest, you're on your own.

GL Corp is gearing up for the Blackest Night even on the horizon. So despite Corp leaving it out, you'd better pick up the GL title as well.

:gl: :gl: :gl:

Well, I'm not reading it, so I couldn't very well recommend it, now could I? :oldrazz:

Consider me a tranny, then. :o

Oh s***, now Anubis is gonna be chasing after me all the time. :(

What is the "The Human Race" about corp?

It's about a couple of aliens who hold a race across the universe and force speedsters from various planets to compete. If the speedster loses, their planet gets destroyed. Wally, of course, is made to compete and the resulting story is one of my favorite Flash stories ever for reasons you should find out by reading it for yourself. :)

Wow... 2 DC books and they're both Vertigo...

:csad:

Booster Gold, GL, Wonder Woman; I'm switching out to all trades for Vertigo, since those stories are really written for that format. Apart from Rucka's upcoming Detective Comics run (and whatever else will be related to Blackest Night), there's not a huge amount from DC that I'm interested in.

You know, I really hope Mon-El doesn't take over Superman the way Hercules took over the Incredible Hulk. I picked up Superman to read Superman, not Supermon. I don't want to drop Superman too.

SWEET! That sounds awesome! Sounds like a morrison story for sure!

goddamn, 09's gonna be worse than 08 for dc...

thank god for rebirth and blackest night...

I just wish we didnt have to introduce so any old characters again, i mean im not hating on hal or barry but did we really need to rekindle the flame of the Silver age? Doesnt DC see the affect it is having on the readership? I read that little note in the back of my book this week and it basically sounds like Didio Ranting like an internet fanboy. Saying I want my characters back, and since i can do it, im going to.

Actually, Hal's return is the most blatant return to the Silver Age and Green Lantern is selling better than just about any other comic DC publishes. So if that's the effect the Silver Age redux is having on the readership, I'm sure DiDio wants more of that.

Really. Get rid of those old guys. Superman is stupid and so is Batman. Wonder Woman needs to retire too.

All those characters that sell so well should really be stopped.

:gl: :gl: :gl:

I wouldn't mind seeing any of them retire. But if you're gonna belabor that analogy, you might as well go all the way back to Jay and Alan, since those were the original characters to bear the names.

I know its the number one book for DC, what im saying is the affect its having on the fans, the displeasure the people get. I don't know maybe its just cause im reading all these Aquaman back issues and realize what good story telling was like. I just can't seem to pick up a book that isnt driven with some sort of event in mind behind it. Like for the past 2 issues i have read of Aquaman all he has is save a family and the other story was about how a journalist could write about him. Nothing like that anymore.

Money > readers' feelings. If so many people really felt so bad about Hal as the main GL, the series wouldn't be selling so well, would it?

What "affect" is it having on the fans? They're buying the mags more than ever?

And believe it or not there are more fans of the 40 some odd years of Hal / Barry than the 10 years of Kyle / Wally.

Do the numbers.

Hal / Barry + 40 years = More Fans

Everyone acts like people over 30 don't buy comics anymore.

:gl: :gl: :gl:

IT's not that im that close minded. Im just saying it seems like the general reaction on THESE boards in particular are disgruntled with the need to shove everything back to the silver age. Yes the books are selling well but you can't just alienate the 10 years you just had of people keeping your damn company afloat.

To be honest I do feel alienated by DC, not because of the way they have been treating my favorite characters, because they don't even seem like they want to appeal to the generation of Wally and Kyle fans that bought there books. I'm sorry I don't want to see every book be tied to a event. Thats my point event driven market equals bland stories and even more bland heroes. I would like a more stories to be one issue tales than all these over expanding arcs. Its very annoying. Seems like after every 6 issue arc we get another and that is just bland after a while.
