Well they were breaking into a building with plans to attack him. He does have super hearing.

Why did they want to attack him?

In the issue, they assume that because Superman is an alien, he's affiliated with Darkseid who's just made his presence known in Gotham. So Green Lantern uses his ring's database of alien species to track down Superman in Metropolis, with the intent to restrain him for questioning. That's when Supes flies out and goes on the defense.

Plus, you know, it's Hal. His idea of diplomacy is to punch diplomacy in the face....Supes just got his ass first. Which is awesome really. I hope he beats the crap outta both of em. They could both stand to be taken down a peg. :o

So Johns is going to have the heroes squabble for a few issues, before they band together and beat [blackout]Darkseid[/blackout]? Sounds like a mediocre plot for a movie adaptation. And this is the "new" DC Universe?

So...judging by JL#1, DC now resembles the Marvel Universe a lot more. Particularly the Ultimates universe. I prefer Marvel so that's cool, but I hope they don't run too far with the edgy "these heroes are outcasts/misunderstood/mutants with feelings" thing. Time will tell.

If Batman and Superman fighting in one issue is everyone squabbling for a few issues, then yeah.

Where'd you get that?

Eh, I didn't mean that as an insult. But in the book, Batman says something to the effect of "They fear us" and "They don't understand us." Very X-Men-ish or most of non-Fantastic Four/Cap Marvel for that matter. Then it begins with the heroes not trusting each other and thinking Supes is a villain and the first few issues is going to be big prideful egos throwing down out of a lack of respect for one another (enter Mark Millar's Ultimates). DC has always been fairly utopian with these King Arthur-sized heroes and their roundtable. By making it so lacking in trust of each other or in the public is...well more a Marvel thing.

I hope they don't go too far with it, because DC for so long has been the more traditional Greek mythology of comics. That's kind of why I've always been passive about the non-Batman characters, but I respect the legacy that entails.

If he beats down Batman, you just know that there's going to be a lot of whining from the hardcore Bat-fans.:o

It'll probably be Batman vs. Superman for a few panels, then they'll be best friends.

Reminds me of that last issue of X-Factor when Rhaine's kid was born and all the Gods were fighting over the baby, and as soon as they felt the babies power surge they all charged off leaving Strong Guy, Shatterstar, and this one God who was like "Dudes! Where ya'll going?!? Ah, f**k it, I'm going home." And Guido was like, "You need a ride or something? " And he was like,"Nah". And Shatterstar was like, "It was great fighting you." And he was like "you too."

$2.99 for a Batman/Green Lantern team up and some Cyborg cameos? I thought this was JUSTICE LEAGUE, Not Batman: Brave and the Bold.

The book seems padded. DCnU seems like Business as Usual from DidioDC. New characters, same crappy editorial management.

In the 1960's Avengers #1 was 12 cents. And the whole team was fought Loki and formed by the end of the issue. Same thing with Fantastic Four #1. the FF Fought the Mole, man and established themselves as a team.

The Dini/Timm League was established in 90 minutes. This is taking too long.

The team should have been formed by the first issue to get new readers to jump on. Darkseid should have made an appearance and SHOWN as a threat leading into issue #2 where the big battle begins. #3 should be the conclusion of said battle.

New readers aren't going to sit there through six or seven issues to see how the Justice League comes together. Oldschool comic fans may do that, but new readers ain't got $21 bucks to wait six or seven issues for a team to come together.

There's so much wrong with this post, I don't know where to start.....

Let me first say, I don't like Decompression. Padding stories for the trade has been one of the biggest problems in modern comics today. It's a boos**t move....that said, going back to trying to shove a huge chuck of story into one issue is just as bad. You lose some of the modern day story telling techniques. How can you put across where everybody is at this point in their history in one issue? The story loses some of it's impact that way. A happy balance should be had. Quite frankly you could have sped the pace up by losing two to three of the splash pages and probably got the whole Supes/GL/Bats fight out of the way in one issue.

That was the 60's. Where you could get away with less sophisticated story telling. Not to say that this was effin' Kafka or anything, but come on.

The Dini/Timm League was established in 90 minutes. This is taking too long.
You see, that is a T.V. show, and this is a comic book. Two completely different mediums. If anything, if you adapted the 90 minute pilot of Justice League as a comic, it would probably be just as long.

The team should have been formed by the first issue to get new readers to jump on. Darkseid should have made an appearance and SHOWN as a threat leading into issue #2 where the big battle begins. #3 should be the conclusion of said battle.
That's nowhere near enough time for the epic tale that the JL formation story deserves . If all you want is a flip book, I suggest you get a pen and note pad.

You have that reversed really. This is the NEW school of comic writing, and what you want is the Old School of comic writing. But you are right. New readers are not gonna pay 21 bucks and wait six or seven issues (And with Jim Lee on art, it will be at least 2 years before this 1st arc is finished. :o)for a team to come together. Just like they wont pay 12 bucks to read a super smushed together story with a break neck pace and little to no time spent on character development. Happy medium. ( That being 5 issues with Ivan Reis or somebody doing every other issue cuz Jim Lee is too f**kin' slow. )

That said, it doesn't matter, because there will be no lasting new readers. This stuff costs too much and it's not that good to begin with. Spike in sales for a couple of months, then sharp fall off. Hopefully when this fails horribly, they realize that they're gonna have to do a hell of a lot more than new costumes and another reboot.

Aside from some mildly amusing banter I really thought that story was crap. I have zero interest in the next issue. It read like Super Friends episode that was written by Brian Michael Bendis.

An 8?

This 're-launch' was BS, and a waste of time. I'm going to go kill myself now...

I've been out of the comic book scene (single issues) for a while since my local shops ALL closed down... I tend to wait on the hardback collections, and since I do that I tend to keep myself away from spoilers of ANY kind... However...

What is the exact POINT of this relaunch? Forgive me if this is covered in prior pages... But.. I don't understand it? Is it currently over writing things like Batman Inc., ect? I mean... I plan on getting those hardbacks... but if 52 is going to wipe that all away... what's the point?

Or.. is this entire thing just a way to give Superman a new origin an somehow we'll revert back to normal DCU with this 52 Superman somehow being stuck as THE Superman?

Anyway, my brother just messaged me... Said "New JL issue relaunch reminds me of the old Super Friends show..."

So... must be some truth to the post above.

The point is to woo new readers into comics and potentially old/lapsed readers like you back. And they're doing that by throwing out everything and starting fresh. Except with Batman, because most of Morrison's stuff, including Batman, Inc., is still intact. And except with Green Lantern too, 'cause that s*** sold way too well to just sweep under the rug from the management's point of view. And except for some key points in the post-Crisis DC universe's history that someone somewhere decided were too important to ignore or undo. And except... well, you get the point. It's a (mostly) fresh start (kinda, except where it's not).

And this is most definitely not a means to re-rebooting the DC universe. That was Flashpoint, which came before this. You basically have the rest of it right, though. Just replace "Superman" with "Barry Allen."
