DC Relaunching Everything? - Part 5

just finished flashpoint 5 and I loved it

I didn't see that coming

I especially loved the end

I also don't mind decompressed stories, as I get everything in hardcover/trade anyways

You should've phrased the second thus: Walk up to Mr. Lee, drop to your knees, and cry, "SSSSEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAMMSSSS?!!!?!?!" Then get up, dust off your pants, and walk out.

That is the reason there's no J'onn on the League. He's mostly naked so there's no way to give him lots of seams

Well, Jim Lee was drawing it, so, you know, Multiple Splash pages take a good chunk of the story out.
Wouldn't that be up to the writer to write in splash pages for him to draw?

I hope the second issue cuts down on the needless splash pages

I wasn't. No Martian, no money. :o

Though my friend and I were debating on pitching our abolitionist Batman idea to them.
My idea of a Cowboy Superman makes more sense. He grew up on a farm in Kansas, that says Cowboy to me!

I think they re trying to impress the new readers so they probably wont stop. I expect the next issue to be full of them, while Johns pits Superman against Batman, something we've never seen before like... a million times.

JL#1 was so lazy and badly written. I was surprised to see Johns writing Hal like he has Downs Syndrome. Johns has to be tied in a basement and Frank Miller is writing this in secret.

If we're going to have a cowboy Superman and abolitionist Batman I want a pirate Wonder Woman. Lassoing ships with her magic lasso and hunting for magical treasure with her crew of super strong Amazon pirates. Cheetah can be a rival pirate with a crew made up of cursed cat people and there will be epic duels as they sail the seven seas

It would be like Pirates of the Carribean but with more superpowered lesbians and murderous cheetah women with a lust for cursed gold

Which would make it 10x more :awesome: than Pirates of the Carribean

Also Galenthias should be the first mate on Wonder Woman's ship. Because a kitteh in a pirate hat > everything else thats ever been made ever

You all know you'd read it

Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman should just all be cowboys/cowgirls... DC Western. It will be like Marvel Zombies, but better

Didn't Batman already become a pirate in Return of Bruce Wayne... or am I thinking of something else...

Yea, my comic shop also had a midnight release for Flashpoint #5. That was meh, but I didn't read the first 4 issues. But even so, it felt lazy.

I'm not even going to defend the title because overall it would have been better if the main book had some scenes from other tie-ins that affect the greater world of Flashpoint...but my goodness that just sounds ******ed. How can you critique a 5 issue series with only reading the last issue? I...I'm having trouble not being a jerk right now.

And I'm one of the nicest guys around these parts.

It isn't your usual Johns writing because he has to write these characters as just starting out and meeting for the first time. They aren't going to be full representations of themselves outside of maybe Batman because in this timeline he's been working the scene for at least 2 years prior. Plus remember that the Batman Urban Legend is built up and what DC is really laying down a foundation of so it makes sense that you have Hal acting the way he is when interacting with Batman for the first time. I mean I wouldn't be surprised if in Aquaman's first appearance in the JL title he is overly regal and arrogant given he is still royalty at the time most likely (in the present time we know he renounces the throne). Should I be shaking my head because of how he would portray my favorite character that way? No because this is their first encountering one another and it is when they are all relatively new to it all.

NO! Superman should just be a cowboy in the main line continuity!

I just realized something, if Ryan Choi is gonna be the Atom in this new continuity, what happens to Ray Palmer?

(Not that I care or anything, but erasing a character out of continuity is kind of a dick move.)

I'm not critiquing a 5 issue series. I'm critiquing the last issue. The lack of scenes from other tie-ins and the build up that the other tie-ins seemed to allude would happen in Flashpoint #5 wasn't there. Project Superman alluded to Kal finally stepping up and becoming Superman. That was the main reason I bought #5, anyway. All he does in Flashpoint is stomp on the Enchantress. Then there's this giant head who says all the timelines need to merge, and so it does. Was this character in any other issue of the main flashpoint title? If not, that's kind of a half-assed way to explain away the new DC universe.

issue 5 of flashpoint was awful, and JLA 1 was even worse. what a craptacular way to end and begin universes.

Newsarama Reviews Seven #1's

For those of you interested. The titles they cover are Animal Man, Stormwatch, Action Comics, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Batgirl, and Justice League.

And what was so bad about those two issues Motown? I won't get to read them until tomorrow.

they were both just extremely underwhelming and boring. a horrible way to end one universe and begin another.
