DC Relaunching Everything? - Part 5

In the new 52 series, what's the difference between Action Comics and Superman? If I wanted to start reading the Superman comics, which one would be the better option?

Action covers Superman's origins or at least his first year or whatever and Superman takes place in the now where he's established and has his "super cool" Kryptonian armor. :o

I'd go with Action because it's written by Grant Morrison and that pretty means it's gonna be awesome.

That's what I was thinking. Thanks Anubis!

I'm not critiquing a 5 issue series. I'm critiquing the last issue. The lack of scenes from other tie-ins and the build up that the other tie-ins seemed to allude would happen in Flashpoint #5 wasn't there. Project Superman alluded to Kal finally stepping up and becoming Superman. That was the main reason I bought #5, anyway. All he does in Flashpoint is stomp on the Enchantress. Then there's this giant head who says all the timelines need to merge, and so it does. Was this character in any other issue of the main flashpoint title? If not, that's kind of a half-assed way to explain away the new DC universe.

1) He did appear in previous Flashpoint titles.

2) Why are you referencing anything from the tie-ins when you never even read the first 4 books of Flashpoint to know their relevance (high or low)

3) That Superman in Flashpoint is not the new Superman when Flash changes history again...that was the Flashpoint Superman. He is not meant to reflect the old or new Superman at all.

And in your reply you show that you knew nothing so you cannot say what is and is not half assed when you read the last issue of a several issue series. That's like my watching the last 20 minutes of a movie and saying "this thing was poorly done" when I don't know anything that happened prior. See how hard I'm trying to be nice here?

So what you're saying is that Flashpoint wasn't half assed, his review was?

No I am tackling this disregarding what the content was. Point is he shouldn't/can't say squat when he read only the last issue of a 5 issue book. To say anything negative about it is beyond dumb when he hasn't read the first 4. If he reads the whole series and still thinks it is half assed then I don't care. But don't go and do something like that. Where the hell is the logic in that?

Er, fine yes then. Sorry I was so focused on that it didn't matter what the book was but yea. :oldrazz:

Ok. I bought the JL.

First impression.

Too pricey. Too short. But worth it to see the A List starting to come together.

Hal Haters should be happy. Johns kinda Anti-Fan Wanks him to Batman and Superman.

:hal: :hal: :hal:

After Flashpoint 5 I might be picking up The Flash title come relaunch now.

Do you guys subscribe through DC Comics or do you pick up individual issues at the comic shop?

If Superman takes place in the present while Action takes place 5 years before, how is Batman and Detective comics? Does Detective Comics take place before?

Yep Morrison writing Superman again is going to be amazing. DC definitely chose the right person to tell the story of his origin this time

Looking forward to seeing how he writes Superman everything I've heard so far has got me excited

Nope all the Batman comic books take place in the present

I'm still confused about Action Comics and Superman. Action Comics is the origin of Superman and the Superman comic takes place in the present? Will the two comics eventually meet up in timeline or will Action Comics forever take place in the past?

Batman and Detective Comics are set in the present day. In my opinion, it would have been better to have Detective Comics and make a new Sensation Comics to go over the early days of Batman and Wonder Woman the way Action Comics is doing with Superman.

After the first arc, Action Comics will move into the present day, still written by Grant Morrison.

Agreed, but writers seem to be afraid to remake Batman's origin because of Millar's Year One being so known but still they could have still made early stories of him, i would like to see a story arc about Batman's conflict with the original Red Hood

See I'm just not in that crowd. No matter how much I try in general I can't say there is anything Morrison has written that I loved. The closest I got to enjoying something of his in the DCU was his JLA run. But see I only enjoy it here and there; not overall. I still have yet to read All-Star Superman but that is due to the fact that if the movie is supposed to be good--which I thought it sucked--than I don't see how I will enjoy All-Star Superman. Although I heard about a very touching seen with a dying girl in the comic that sadly they didn't put in the animated film. Another problem being that I can't stand Quietly no matter how many times I try to look at his art thinking it is one of those "acquired tastes".

Grant Morrison pretty much ditched Year One out of continuity already. Give Batman a new origin story. Wonder Woman too.

I don't think either of them need new origins and I wouldnt really want their origins to be changed but stories set during their early years as superheroes could be fun

Isn't the new Wonder Woman title an origin story?
I was already planing on getting it, Batman is the only character that doesn't catch my interest in the reboot

Good. I subscribed for that comic because I heard Morrison is doing it and will involve a new origin.

If we're going to have a cowboy Superman and abolitionist Batman I want a pirate Wonder Woman. Lassoing ships with her magic lasso and hunting for magical treasure with her crew of super strong Amazon pirates. Cheetah can be a rival pirate with a crew made up of cursed cat people and there will be epic duels as they sail the seven seas

It would be like Pirates of the Carribean but with more superpowered lesbians and murderous cheetah women with a lust for cursed gold

Which would make it 10x more :awesome: than Pirates of the Carribean

Also Galenthias should be the first mate on Wonder Woman's ship. Because a kitteh in a pirate hat > everything else thats ever been made ever

You all know you'd read it

I would actually read something like this.:awesome:
