Speaking of Batwoman i am so happy to hear her series won a GLAAD award

Definitely well deserved

And speaking of lgbt characters that I love I cannot wait to check out the new issue of Teen Titans this week I've been absolutely loving how Bunker has been written so far

DC needs more gay male heroes and its nice to see such an amazingly positive and joyful gay superhero in Teen Titans right now

I don't think anyone disagrees with that.

It's kinda the level of vitriol that seems to create unending conversations.

I'm sorry if I've come across as overly negative or angry. I'm really not an angry person and I apologise if I was ranting CConn :)

But I'm a lesbian and my girlfriend is a jewish lesbian. To say that we've had to deal with bigotry from people is an understatement.:(

So homophobia, racism or any kind of prejudice like that just really deeply upsets me. It doesn't exactly help my depression either

But I'll try to talk about positive stuff that i like, like good depictions of lgbt characters in comic books and ways that they are getting better

Instead of complaining all the time about stuff that annoys me which I know i go on about sometimes.

I know its no fun being negative all the time

So let's talk about fun stuff :)

How are you liking Resurrection Man are you enjoying it still

Yeah, Batwoman really did deserve that award.

Yeah, Batwoman really did deserve that award.

I think its one of the absolute best depictions of a lesbian character in comic books ever :)

And for me her series is the best thing DC is publishing right now so I'm really pleased that GLAAD have given the series this award :)

Not gonna lie I'm doing my dance of joy right now

Why must you hate him so hippie hunter :ninja:

Yeah, ever since Batwoman took over Detective Comics, I have to agree with that.

Why must you hate him so hippie hunter :ninja:
Because if I can't be happy, no one can! Even the fictional characters :argh:

Yeah, ever since Batwoman took over Detective Comics, I have to agree with that.

Greg Rucka and JH Williams have done such amazing work with the character. They've made me care about her so much and she really does matter to me in a way no other comic book character does thanks to them :hrt:

Cannot wait to check out the new issue in a couple of weeks I loves the current story arc

You and your hatred of joy hippie hunter :o

You need to read some Tiny Titans

It will fill your soul with happiness and magic. Every issue is like getting a hug from a unicorn made of love :hrt:

So I was reading in my DC comics this week how dc did an event for their lgbt fans, having students from the Harvey Milk school come to the DC offices, get to chat with the staff and encouraging the artists and writers among them to get into comics and talking about DC's commitment to being pro lgbt both in the comics they publish and as a work place

It makes me SO happy to see DC being so firmly and proudly pro lgbt and its another reason I'm glad I support DC by buying their products. It's such a great thing to do for lgbt teens who are comic fans, showing them that the people who write the comics they enjoy support them and encouraging talented lgbt artists and writers to get into comics as we need more working in the comic book industry

I wish there had been events like this when i was at school. I would have been so thrilled to meet the DC artists and writers I love and hearing them offer encouragement and show their support for the lgbt community would really have made me feel less depressed and lonely back then i think

I know I joke around a lot but the fact is I've dealt with some pretty severe depression over the years. And it never really goes away completely

But days when i see the artists and writers I respect and love supporting and encouraging lgbt men and women, both with words and with actions by making dc a pro lgbt place to work and publishing comics with positive depictions of lgbt characters, days like that I have so many reasons to smile :)

So yay for DC for doing such a great event

Completely the wrong thread for this but do you know my favorite moment regarding gay people in comics? It was in I think Daredevil (Waid's current run) when the hero was interviewing a guy about something and we learned that he was gay and that he was protecting his boyfriend or something of that nature.

Yeah, memory sucks, but the fact that a scene could be written about two gay men without it being a 'we're gay' thing was really cool. There wasn't any moment of "oh, it's cause you're gay" or "Oh, you're gay?" or anything like that. They just were. It could have been written with a straight couple and little to nothing changed about it. It was just a scene with two gay men in it like it was the most ordinary thing. I thought that was very tasteful.

Batwoman handles it well but I do feel it goes a little too far at times in a 'look at me, I'm gay' sort of way. Not always, but sometimes.

Before she took over Detective Comics she was that way. Her sexuality was the only thing that defined the character. As a result she wasn't a very good character.

Aquaman was very fab this month I'm definitely looking forward to seeing where this plot goes

I want Mera to get a spin off :atp:

I loves Mera

I haven't read that scene but it sounds great. Treating a gay couple with the same respect as any other loving couple in fiction is what I want to see more of in comics and all forms of fiction

Equal portrayals that show that all kinds of relationships, straight or gay or lesbian are wonderful and normal things :)

I like that about Lightning Lass and Shrinking Violet too they're portrayed as a couple in a very matter of fact way :)

I have to disagree there Hobbit I think they handle her sexuality really well in the series

They portray her as an out and proud gay woman in a way that i think is very tasteful. Her scenes with Maggie as well I think have been handled well. Its very easy to write two attractive women together in a way that comes across as exploitative or solely about pleasing straight male readers who want to see hot ladies kiss

But I think that instead Kate and Maggie are realistically portrayed as two people in love just like any other couple and their scenes seem touching loving and genuine rather than exploitative and the writing and art both do a great job of portraying the love they feel for each other in a very real way

Though that's just my opinion on them :) But I think their probably one of the best examples of a lesbian couple I can think of in comics

It's worth a look. The overall story was prett good too to be honest.

And speaking of "worth a look" you'd probably like Astonishing X-Men 48 that came out today. It begins Marjorie Liu's run and it seems like Northstar and his boyfriend's relationship will be a front and center plot. It was written well in the first issue and I know you like to support that sort of thing.

(again, not to get off thread-topic)

I'm thinking earlier in the run, specifically the dance scene where they were in tuxes. That was kinda "in your face" but thinking back maybe it's not been so bad since then. I wasn't a fan of the sex scene but I don't like sex scenes in anything so that's to be expected. I'm a pretty PG type of guy.

Earth-Two's Alan Scott.

Lame. The whole reason these characters are so intriguing is their historical importance.

Much better than the terrible Jay Garrick costume, but pretty much generic GL. But then again, it's all generic now.

I feel like my name will forever conjure up negative thoughts in Kurosawa's head since I think I posted all of the Earth-Two covers here first. :oldrazz:

Alan Scott should always be wearing a cape with a ****ing collar. Or it's not Alan Scott.

Looks like they were going for the armored look from Kingdom Come.

I did indeed buy Astonishing X Men this week :) I really loved the way both of them were written in this first issue i thought that Liu did a great job of writing them as a couple

I loved that not only were they portrayed as a sweet, adorae and loving couple but that they were shown kissing. It's rare that gay male couples get any on panel displaus of physical affection but I'm glad that Liu treated them like any other couple. I think she's a great choice to write these two and i cannot wait to see what she has planned for them

Looking forward to seeing how she writes Karma as well, a very neat lesbian character who i really love :)

And as Northstar, his boyfriend and Karma will all be major characters in the series I'll definitely be buying it

I think that the tuxedo thing was done because it was obvious Kate's step mother wanted her to keep her sexuality 'quiet' at the party so I saw it as her way of telling her to gtfo and refusing to hide her sexuality just as she refused to lie about it when she was in the millitary. I think being true to who she is is very much a part of her character so I saw her choice of clothing for the party as an extension of that

That's fair enough if your not a fan of sex scenes. Some people dont like sex in fiction i know my sister can't ever watch any movies or tv shows with sex scenes in them without feeling uncomfortable. I totally respect that. Everyone has the right to have their own personal tastes when it comes to stuff like that so long as they respect the rights of others who dont mind sex scenes in fiction to be able to read about them or watch them without censorship :)

As someone who's okay with sex scenes in fiction i did think it was a very well done one. I thought it portrayed the love between them well rather than seeming like it was there just to titillate :)
