DC starts own Studio?!?!

About two years, if I'm not mistaken....

It will definitely be interesting to see what happens to WW after that.

What does WB feel about his treatment of the franchise? Do you think its likely they could extend it?

I'm being optimistic by thinking WB would even allow DC to be involved in that kind of descision making. Which they won't. Ever.

I agree.

Paul Dini was a great choice, probably the best possible choice. I'm all for a "draft Dini" movement.

Marvel's involvement with the decision making is why they have multiple billion dollar movie franchises now and WB not having any is why they ONLY HAVE ONE.

I'd see this as a group effort. It will take more then one or two people to do it properly. Just as long as they have one clear leader in charge so they aren't going in ten different directions at once.

Exactly, that is such a huge problem with DC. Supes, Bats, WW, Flash, GL, etc. may all be under one roof with WB, but all of them are flying in different directions because no one person is in charge of their development.

Precisely, if not for the leadership and smart decision making of Arad and Feige, Marvel would not be where they are today. Moreover, they are also good at letting the comic book guys have more of an influence. WB needs to get Paul Levitz and Dan DiDio more involved with getting DC movies off the ground.

Well what I'm curious about. What exactly is the LEGENDARY label, and why do they get put on all the comic book movies now?

I'm guessing their the only ones that would put up money to produce them.

I mean isn't that WB's money? Because that's basically a WB/TW label right?

Me too.

I mentioned this on another board I visit. Someone was saying if Nolan left the Batman movie franchise no further Batman movies would be worth watching and I pointed out they could draft someone like Paul Dini in to write the next movie and they could still do a really good job. An established writer like Dini would be the ideal successor to Nolan, if one was needed.

If we're drafting someone to lead DC's movie (and television) development, I'd recommend Michael Uslan. The guy is a comic book fan with interest beyond the superhero realm, he has a good relationship with DC, and he had the vision to see a dark, serious Batman in the 1970s and acquired the film rights ahead of everyone else.

No - Legendary Pictures is an independent company that has an agreement with WB to co-produce and co-finance a set number of films (I believe 25) films with Warner Brothers.

They are NOT a WB/TW company, nor are they exclusive to comic films. I know they produced Ant Bully and 10,000 B.C. as well.

I was just reading the front page about the Superman movie and how Warners is trying to "figure it out." Warner's problem is they have the worst case of "analysis paralysis" I have ever seen. They think crap to DEATH! No wonder batfans get so nuts over TDK and have made it such a hit...they have NOTHING ELSE! And I'd dare say they WON'T have either. Watchmen will be a hit but it's a deadend with not much chance of a sequel. If Nolan DOES make a third batfilm (doubtful) it will most likely be his last. Other than that what else is there? The sure-to-be-a disaster JLA film with "hot young actors" in all the leads? *groan* As someone else said, we've had so many false starts on these characters it isn't funny. Warner is run by suits who want to exert too much control over these films without even understanding the characters. They want to have their own input just to justify their own existence rather than using the formula Marvel has SHOWN works and that is staying true to the character. All the hard work's been done! Stop trying to figure out how to change it (ala Superman Returns) and just write a great story, hire great actors and directors, and get it done! Probably too much to hope for. *sigh* so much potential for films like GL, Flash, Wonder Woman. Oh well...

My 2 cents.

They have it in that all there properties are under one studio's roof rather than spread out at other things. That means if fans want to see interaction between properties, DC could easily beat Marvel at that game if they played their cards right.

The other thing is that they've had this distinct advantage for YEARS and never taken more advantage of it.

The Major, just about one of the few people I would trust in the position as like one of the head honchos is probably Paul Dini. Don't care if he's mainly an animation guy. Paul Dini or someone like Dini, Bruce Timm etc.

Just saying, make Paul Dini like the John Lasseter of DC Films/Studios.

Definately needs to be dini or timm (still wanting that live action beyond movie:mad: ) Marvel is slowing getting all their rights back by the way. The only biggie they don't have back yet is Spidey from sony they did and extension after the first movie went large. But they won't be getting it agian.

Exactly. Alot of these execs don't realize these are great characters, literary Icons if you write them true it will be a hit without question. I mean they have built in audiences for gods sake all you have to do is be true and put it out. A character doesn't stick around 40+ years in monthly titles if something is not working you know.

WB is crazy. will i be able to see a flash movie before i die?

and i know this is being too optimistic, but i wanna see tim drake on film. haha.

Tim Drake in a Nightwing movie= Heaven

Fox will NEVER let go of the properties they have. If another company could do those characters better, they will NEVER let the public catch on.

A live action Batman Beyond movie would rock, but if the time came what do you think you guys would go for? A Dark Knight Returns movie or Batman Beyond?

Honestly I'd say Batman Beyond because I like that potential of that story.

As much as I like Dark Knight Returns, I wouldn't be too excited about that story as a movie, and I'm honestly sick of Frank Miller.

wait why are you guys surprised about this? DC will never be its own studio the way Marvel Films is because DC is owned by WB.

what WB is planning to do-- and this they've already disclosed since several articles have covered this-- is that it will give DC a bit more autonomy and creative control when it comes to producing comic book movies related to its franchises. which is basically a copy cat format of Marvel Films except that WB will (hopefully) meddle a lot less and give the DC guys the creative power they should've had to begin with.

its ironic that it took the failure of several notable franchises to make WB realize this important lesson. i mean how long have we been saying to get DC more involved with the comic book films? IIRC way, way before Marvel became a studio producing its own films. as usual WB is playing catch up. but at least its better late than never.

I assume everyone has seen the news about how they will be taking all characters in a darker direction like batman?!?!!? This is exactly why DC needs more say in the creative desicisions!

By the way vileone I would love love love a tricked out batman beyond film.

and 04nbod the same goes for a nightwing flick:D

As i and others have said the "Dark" comment was taken a bit out of context. Robinov didnt mean all the characters will be dark like batman but it will just be a darker/moodier world/universe they are set in.

I get that but how dark is Metropolis supposed to be it is the ideal "shining city on a hill"?

I'm hoping the comment meant that they would be taking the characters more seriously and introducing them in a more adult orientated way, rather than making Superman the dark avenger or something stupid. It would be a shame if they made that mistake because many of the DC franchises can be lighter or funnier without being campy.
