I'm a broken record I know, but can someone please explain to me why they find King's Batman satisfying?

So whats the deal with the DC event Metal? What do we know about it so far?

It is really bothering me that I don't like Kng's Batman run thus far so I've been reading others reviews to Batman 20 to see what it might be that bothers me so much. And I think I've got it. I feel like King disregards and discards the bat family. Gotham Girl was supposed to be Gothams protector once Batman dies but it doesn't work out that way. But what about the family? King writes them as incompetent bumbling boobs. Or completely absentee.

As a big fan of the bat family, this really irritates me.

It's a DCU-wide event. Snyder and Capullo will tackle other characters including the JL. Hawkman and the Nth Metal are expected to be important elements of the event.

Metal is six issues and will start in August. There's also Dark Days (two issues in June and July) that will serve as a prologue to Metal.

Thanks. Then the tradeback will probably be out by winter 2017. Excited to check it out.

King's recent Batman run has be somewhat of a self-contained story arc. To be honest with you, his run and the lack of Batfamily focus within it hasn't bothered me much at all because the Batfamily and its individual members have been given a huge focus in several other ongoing titles like Detective Comics, Nightwing, Batwoman, All Star Batman, etc, and they've been featured in brief crossovers in other titles (like Batman and Damien in this week's Superman).

It's not so much that King has been ignoring them in his Batman run or making them look like idiots, but rather, he was trying to tell a self-contained story that largely stemmed from Batman's interactions with Gotham and Gotham Girl, what they meant to him, what he hoped for them to be, etc.

I also didn't really mind that King's run has been a slow-moving and more introspective/personal Batman tale, partially because Batman himself is currently a focal point of nearly have a dozen other DC titles that are currently running, some of which have been pretty action-packed and plot-heavy.

Yeah, when it comes to the batman universe, we are currently very far spread and everybody gets quite the focus and so on.
I do love the batfamily, but once in a while i like to have storys that focus just on batman and tackle different topics, have different themes and pacing.

Im a bit behind on everything, but i do like Kings run so far.
The Bane storyline and especially the chapter where he showed the similaritys between Bane and Bruce...i thought that was a pretty sweet idea.

Tom King keeps presenting his Batman stories with an atmosphere of gravitas, but the characters and story don't support that atmosphere. It's not that the comics are bad, but I expected more from Tom King. He has a tendency to be a phenomenal comic writer, his run on The Vision and Sheriff of Babylon were some of the best comics of 2016. So, for his run on one of my favorite characters to not be as phenomenal, it's just a little disappointing.

so what happened to New 52 Conner Kent Superboy ( or "bad" Jon Kent Superboy from 52 )?

since Rebirth, both have been MIA.

Bart hasn't been around either. I keep hoping he'll come back as Impulse. No to Bar-Tor or whatever that crap was though.

Bummed that Aquaman will become a monthly title :(

DC better not replace Rucka with another Meredith Finch. Better keep that A talent on the title.

He and Cassie upped and disappeared.

:(

I wonder if they will incorporate Conner's TK powers into son Jon, since young Jon is half human half Kryptonian as well.

I've always thought Superboy's TK powers were cool with lots of potential ( and I've always wondered why regular Kryptonians don't exhibit it ). H'El also displayed even more powerful TK powers.

also, I'd like to see Cassie return to the Teen Titans, too.

I hope not. I hate it when they use other characters traits to help prop up a new character whose taken their place.

Batman, Superman, Aquaman and Super Sons = awesome!

Going to get to Nightwing and Trinity later today.

Excited to grab this week's titles. Can't wait to dig into Batman #21, especially.
