DC to "Rebirth" in June - Part 1

Jokes and Riddles is great. I think one of the things that appeals to me about it is that Batman keeps making mistakes, which is something not a lot of stories dig into. His mistakes make me a little uncomfortable, too, so nice work Tom King.

Also really enjoy how King writes the Joker.

King does write an ok Joker. But I don't know who that other guy is, but it certainly ain't the Riddler.

Kings writing in general is at best....okayish.
I dont think its really hard to write Joker to be honest, you can pretty much do what you want with the character since his whole character is very bendable.

His Riddler is a bit different...dont know if good or bad however.

But overall the Joker/Riddler arc is not good imo.
It is the last straw for me when it comes to Kings run.
I had really high hopes for the idea and all but King is out of his depth when it comes to the batman universe.

For the first time in 8 years or so i will drop the Batman comics after the arc, something i never thought would happen.

Sucks for you, dude.

Yeah it does, but thankfully im currently reading more overall DC series then in those last 8 years...so there is a good side to it.

I'm with you on Kings run. I'll stick with it just because it's Batman but it's not been good.

In hindsight I don't even know that I'd say his Joker is good. King's Joker seems pretty bland and not at all larger than life. He cannot even steal the show from a gigolo posing as the Riddler.

When I think about how good Superman Aquaman Red Hoo and the Outlaws and even Detective Comics have been, King's Batman has been disappointing.

That's kind of been the point thus far. In this story, The Joker has "lost his mojo", so to speak. He's not even able to smile or laugh.

Kings batmsn has been okay-ish. Which is surprising because everything else he writes is phenomenal. Vision, Sheriff of Babylon, Omega Men, and now Miracle Man...they're all amazing.

Im not liking King's Batman at all. But I'll take King on Batman over Snyder any day. I liked Snyder during New 52, but as of Rebirth its like he's just trying to completely change all Batman lore to his whimsy. He's going way too far with it.

Yeah, that is probably why im so extremely dissapointed in his Batman run.
He is a fantastic writer, he has proven that he can write...but just not Batman.

I've enjoyed King's run (especially the current Jokes & Riddles arc) but it truly pales in comparison to Detective Comics. That title definitely comes across as the flagship book. That said, I'll be glad for as long as King is writing. But I also wouldn't be overly sad to hear his run is over.

That said, his Vision was probably the best book I've read in a long time. Hopefully he can recapture that with Miracle Man (which I've not had the chance to read yet).

I think Batman is more uniquely interesting, but Detective is scratching an itch I've had since Flashpoint. It's reminds me a lot of the NML and post-NML Batbooks that I really enjoyed in the way that it focuses on the entire family, and achieves unique voices for those characters. It's been a killer book.

Yep, Detective Comics has definitely been my favorite book from Rebirth. I love how it loops in the whole family. And it and Batwoman are building up to some pretty crazy things coming up!

Geoff revealed the covers for Doomsday Clock #1!

So...[blackout]Rorshach[/blackout] is in the DCU as well? Cautiously optimistic about all of this.

I think that's just a case of them mixing DC and Watchmen iconography for marketing purposes. I doubt that character actually appears in the flesh.

The fallout of [blackout]his journal being given to the press[/blackout], though? Perhaps.

That Superman cover. :hmr:
Superman has definitely benefited the most from Rebirth, with the Superman solo book in particular being consistently great. That and Super Sons are two of my favorite true "Rebirth" titles. Now I'm just hoping that, with the Kents moving back to Metropolis, the Daily Planet supporting cast start to have more frequent appearances!

When exactly does the Oz Effect arc kick off? Should be soon, right? I'm still betting on Oz being [blackout]Superboy Prime[/blackout].

yes.

I just lament the loss of Conner Kent/Superboy.

btw....any one here read Gotham City Garage?

it's an interesting take on the characters, including Kara (Gordon)/Supergirl.
