DC Vs Mortal Kombat?

Well Im just excited as a Huge DC man to see my favorite characters in all there next-gen glory.

how long has it been since the worldscollide.com website went up? they haven't even revealed any of the ? yet... they should have by now with that image of scorpion.

I don't get Boon... He says that there WILL be Fatalities, but no head ripping, arm tearing, splitting bodies in two pieces, or burning opponents to a crisp... Then THAT'S not a fatality!

He hinted that "there will be blood." That says nothing about fatalities.

Okay, so maybe there won't be fatalities this time around, but what finishing moves would you want to see the DC characters do?

Superman could lobotimize people with his heat vision, like he did Doomsday.

Batman could bust out some crazy martial arts and break peoples limbs.

Joker would use Smile-X and the opponent would start laughing hysterically and then collapse with a smile on their face.

Wonder Woman would have to do something with the Lasso. (on a side note, woudlnt it be awesome if her braclets could do things against specific characters? Like she could deflect Scorpions spear, bullets and braclets style?)

Green Lantern could whip out a giant boxing glove, old school.

Flash could do the good old fashioned Crisis on Infinite Earths trick and run someone into the Speed Force.

He hinted that "there will be blood." That says nothing about fatalities.

*ahem*

Ed Boon: I guess that's my favorite part of the reaction -- your exact sentence, which is, "it looks like fatalities will be gone." There was never any statement on our part that fatalities will be gone, or finishing moves will be gone. We did acknowledge that we won't be able to do the same kinds of outrageous moves, like tearing someone's head off and the spine being attached to it.

But there are a lot of assumptions that there will be no blood in the game; that there are no fatalities in the game. It's an assumption that, because the DC characters will be in there, those features will have to be dropped. My response is that, no, we're modifying fatalities.

But I have every intention to keep finishers. The names of these moves, and the level of violence we use, are to be determined. But it's certainly not a feature we plan on eliminating from the series. My intention is that we want to push the envelope of a T-rated game as far as we can without being an M-rated game."

I'm only buying the game as a DC fighting game, the only mk characters I'll use are either classic ninja scorpion, reptile and sub zero or maybe kitana or someone like that just to have the DC guys have someone to beat up.

MK was never a series I cared about. I loved it when I was a kid, but only because of the movie. I wasn't allowed to play the game when I was very young, but when I did it was nothing special. And really the story was dumb to me. Like after the third one I didn't even WANT to play the games.

Why spend 60 bucks on half a game? That's asinine sir.

Well to be honest I'm hoping they market this game towards both fans and people that don't know either.

For instance, if you're a DC fan and know nothing of MK then they should have "classic" MK characters. Sub zero, Scorpion, Reptile, Johnny Cage, Liu Kang, Sonya Blade..Gorro. And then maybe have Smoke or Shao Khan as like extra characters.

And if you like MK but don't really read comics, DC should use iconic DC guys like Wonder Woman, Bats, Supes, GL and Flash with cool people that everyone knows as extras.

This game is basically an answer to Marvel Imperfects/Marvel vs. Capcom.. Moreso the imperfects game.

So it's not half of a game. I'm okay with the classic characters, but I won't care about "Tarmac" or that fire guy from the last one.

ALSO..the settings will be beautiful. Graveyards and mosoleums, deadly and bloody pits..And this will probably be the most graphic game you could ever play starring Superman, you know?

(I'm interested on how they will incorporate flying...)

Also remember there will be DC levels too so expect a Watchtower level or a Fortress of Solitude level or a Themyscira level, Atlantis, Batcave, etc. I think Fate's tower has endless possibilities or The Phantom Zone.

I really looking forward to the DC arenas. Those could be awesome.

Exactly! So if you think of it, there's actually more in this for DC fans who may or may not know of MK mythos..

Ugh, just thinking of the MK characters in any of those scenarios is so stupid. They don't match at all.

Actually the MK storyline is all about conquering other worlds. It really makes perfect sense.

Besides:

Fortress of Solitude: Frost, SubZero
Batcave: Anyone would make sense here, but I think Batman's level wouldn't be so personal. His level will probablly be a Gotham skyline to street at Night..
Themyscira: A lush greek island..It may not have the dark and forboding theme but they could add cool graphics in the background to make it fitting. What about a giant portal in the backgrounds, or maybe the sky is on fire or something..

This game is basically an answer to Marvel Imperfects/Marvel vs. Capcom.. Moreso the imperfects game.

how do you figure? this game is a lot more like mvc. marvel and dc are the top 2 comics publishers and street fighter and mortal kombat were the top 2 fighting games back in the 90s. they already did marvel vs. capcom, so it would seem like mk vs. dc is more of a response to that game. besides, the imperfects game was absolutely awful...

more like Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter than MvC

Just because they could find a way to make the story make sense doesn't mean the established universes mesh well. They don't.

Mortal Kombat is a dark, violent universe that prides itself on interesting ways to kill your opponents. Not only that, but the characters, tone, and even the storylines took a more serious and darker turn with the last real installment of Mortal Kombat; MK: Deception. These properties do not mesh, at least not without sacrificing important aspects of either property, and since Midway has lost their balls they decided that they would be the ones to sacrifice those aspects.

Watching Sub Zero duke it out with Superman in the Fortress of Solitude strikes me as ridiculous; whether it's made of ice or not.

Good point! But I was thinking about mobility and gameplay. A 3D game with darker more violent themes. MvC is a colorful almost anime or cartoon-like experience. Imperfects was a gritty game with "fatalities" and stuff.

So yes, MK vs. DC might be more of an answer to marvel vs. SF, but if there were two things to compare it would have to be imperfects and this game. At least...that's how I see it.

I misunderstood you. My mistake. I thought you meant the characters wouldn't look right in the levels and stuff of that nature.

You're right and I agree with you. That's why I said above that I'm playing it for DC. MK is a failing and dying game series, in my opinion. Trying to shock players with blood and guts is so 1994. Like, have you noticed how much more silly MK has become? Fans may still like it and care, but there are FAR better fighters out there and the characters to me are "whatever".

So if I don't care about the gameplay or the characters why play MK: Gold Deception Final X?

At least with DC in the mix, I'm getting more and more excited about playing an awesome Wonder Woman vs. Superman match..Or Batman vs. Superman.

I agree with Silverstein, I want this game so I can finally settle Batman Vs Supes, you know? My way.

fair enough sir.

I can appreciate the DC fans who are excited about it, because if I didn't care about MK and I was a DC fan this idea would be music to my ears. But I'm a big MK fan, and to be honest I don't care at all for DC.

People don't give the MK franchise enough credit, IMO. I hear all the time "ZOMG MK HAS SUCKED SINCE MK2!!!" but that's simply not true. MK: Deception was incredible, and all the extras that came with it were amazing. The Konquest Mode alone was like an entire game built into a game. They put a lot of effort into that, and it was a great step forward in the MK games.

That's why this is such a kick in the nuts to MK fans.

Yes, MK Konquest. An entire medicore game built into an already medicore fighter. They should concentrate on the fighting aspect of the game and not try to distract us with fancy gimmicks. Like the additional Puzzle, Chess and Mini Kart Kombat. If they want to make stuff like the Konquest mode, then make it a separate game like Shaolin Monks, but keep it out of the main games.
