The Dark Knight Rises Deacon Joseph Blackfire

Replace "homeless and poor" with "rocket powered penguins" and you pretty much have the Penguin from BR.

Don't mock the penguins. They were the greatest movie penguins ever. Yes, even better than the ones in the Madagascar films.

Yeah, they are just alike. :whatever:

So the base is the sewer, by that rationale, we shouldn't have any more mob bosses or costumed villains cause they are all just ripping off the Joker. No more mafia room meetings, no using the docks, no Batman running across the rooftops.

You know...I wouldn't mind a Nolan-movie loosely based on Cult with Blackfire. I still think it won't happen...if it does, he'll have to throw in Catwoman or some other big name draw. Of course, he'll have to do that if it's Hugo Strange too.

Either villain I think could provide a nice follow-up to TDK. I will be excited whoever it is because I trust in Nolan. :yay:

I had tears in my eyes when the penguins gave Pengy his funeral. It was so moving! :oldrazz: ...I still don't know why he died, though. Was it because his air conditioner exploded, or did he get into the part of the water that had the toxic junk?

I always thought the fall was to high and the water to shallow. And he damaged himself internally, and the goo was just the color of his blood.

Yeah, the music for his death was some of the most stirring score created by Elfman. Very moving.

I just looked up the script to be sure... it's a combination of his injuries and the heat (from all the fire falling into his enclosed lair) that kills him. Also, in the script, Batman picks up one of Penguin's umbrellas and aims it at him threateningly. :funny:

Before or after Penguin dies? lol. I also wonder if they filmed that.

I often consider Batman Returns to be Elfman's masterpiece. I go back and forth between that and Edward Scissorhands.

No love for Ed Wood? I think that's one of his best films and highly underrated.

Best one of his, imo. Hands down. I mostly don't like Burton and I find this one a masterpiece (probably because it's not plagued by his aesthetics and actually focuses on characters and relationships).

Edit: S**t, you were talking about Elfman? Well, same preferance.

Ed Wood is only one of two Burton films to not be composed by Danny Elfman.

Ah, yes, it was Howard Shore, right? That explains it:oldrazz:

Yeah, Ed Wood was Shore, not Elfman.

As far as Burton films, Ed Wood is actually my favorite. It's probably in my overall top ten of all time.

The Ghoul...Goes West!

I love everything Burton did in the 80s and 90s. He just got old. You just can't retain the credibility of being the misunderstood goth loner when you're rich and pushing 60. Nobody has yet to tell Ozzy Osbourne.

The problem with Burton recently is this -

When a new project of his is announced, you can image exactly what its going to be like. When Alice was announced, you knew Depp would be the Hatter, that he would be freaky looking and a strange man-child type character, etc. You can pretty much write the movie and do the production design all in your head before you even see it.

He lost that element of surprise. An artist like him cannot afford to lose that sense of wonder and spontaneity, and fall into predictability.

He needs to avoid the obvious. That includes stuff like Addams Family, Dark Shadows, all the stuff he's been attached to recently. He needs to stretch himself, and surprise us again.

That doesn't mean that they're all automatically bad, though. I loved Sweeney Todd and Big Fish. He's still a master at what he does, even if it's predictable.

The most unpredictable director in Hollywood became..predictable.

No way man, I'd never predict Eyes Wide Shut would go where it did.

Ed Wood and Sweeney Todd are the only Burton movies I love.

Batman and Beetlejuice were pretty good.

Mars Attacks and Sleepy Hollow were... Watchable.

I hated Batman Returns, Edward Scissorhands, and Alice in Wonderland looked like poop in a multi-colored suit.

The rest I've not seen.
